Chapter 3: Chapter 2
"What is it Dave?" I ask with clear annoyance in my tone but he doesn't hear my question and just signals me to wait for him. We end up walking out together. I've known him since primary school and as much as he annoys me, we've become the closest of friends. He's what you'd typically classify as a bad boy; always getting in trouble, dating every skirt he lays his eyes on and has a stank ass attitude.
He has dated nearly all the girls in Riverside, broken their hearts and didn't give a damn. A reputation he has managed to maintain for the past 3 years but for some strange reason, girls still wanted to date him. But who wouldn't? Not saying I also want him but he's good looking and let's face it, most girls would dive at the opportunity of dating the baddest boy in school.
"So how did you do on your test?" I ask as we walk down the hallway.
"I'm gonna pretend like I didn't hear that" he brushes me off as always. "Oh come on..." he cuts me off before I can even finish my plea.
"For the 100th time Liz STOP TALKING TO ME ABOUT ANYTHING RELATED TO THIS SCHOOL BULL!!" he says spelling the words out to me like I'm a 5 year old in kinder garden. I almost want to punch him in the face but his grin afterwards washes that thought off my head and causes me to laugh instead. "Fine!" I respond almost imitating him and he laughs back.
As we walk outside I notice a face I'm not quite familiar with. It's a girl sitting on a bench near the school sports ground. The way she's sitting all alone seems quite unusual. Is she an exchanged student perhaps or has she been here all along and if so how come I've never noticed her before? I ask myself as my curiosity concerning this girl grows by the second. I mean her appearance isn't really something one would miss. She had long wavy hair with fiery red ends and a few tattoos on her arms. Yet I've never seen her before.
"Hey Dave, wait here. I'm coming" I say to David who apparently isn't paying attention to me as he's busy with his phone.
"Hey stupid!" I say lightly hitting him on his head with the book I am holding.
"I said I'm coming, now wait here."
"Whoa! And where exactly are you going?"
"To that girl over there!" I say pointing and walking torwards the strange girl's direction. I take a few steps but David rushes towards me and stops me in my tracks.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you" he warns.
"Yeah but you're not me, so move" I say pushing him out of my way. He does the opposite and pulls me by my hand and tightens his grip. "Hey! What the hell!" I say with annoyance.
"Listen to...."
I interrupt him "I don't wanna hear it, let go!". I loosen my hand and I continue approaching the girl. Before I can even greet her, her cellphone rings and she answers it as she walks away. I turn to face Dave so I can curse him out for making me miss my chance to talk to her but he seems delighted that I didn't.
"Now that we're done trying to talk to weird people, can we go and have lunch?" he mocks and almost sounds like he's choking with laughter.
"Who was that girl anyway?" I ask still in confusion.
"That my friend is somebody you have no business in knowing. But her name is Monice."
"Does she go here? And how come you know her?"
"You sure do ask a lot of questions! Yes she does go here."
"How come I've never seen her though?"
"Oh you've seen her, you just weren't paying attention at the time".
I'm still in shock but I decide to stop asking Dave questions about her and let it blow over. Plus I don't want to annoy him as much as he has me today so we continue walking to the cafeteria.
Before I know it, after a few more classes, school is out and I immediately head home.
