Chapter 28: Dawn of a New Day
Matt woke up feeling refreshed and comfortable. It seemed that his power had finally finished compressing and it made his new found strength feel light and easy to handle. Another thing that he had noticed was that the space ability that he had been holding onto was now gone. It seemed to have integrated with his other abilities due to the force of his energy and the space energy mixing.
While in thought, he felt a stir next to him in the bed. Morgan had just woken up as well and was looking at him with sleepy eyes. He leaned over and gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead which prompted her to wrap her arms around him and snuggle up to him.
"Did you sleep well?" he asked her.
"I slept great. I feel well rested and relaxed." she said.
"Thats good. I guess we should get up. The others will begin to make breakfast and eat without us soon." he said.
In response to that statement, she got a mischievous grin on her face as she swung her legs over him. She ended up straddling him in an effort to make him not get out of bed yet.
"What does this make us?" she said as she moved her hips in a seductive fashion against him.
"It makes us a couple does it not? It seems that you are in a more forward mood now." he said in a husky voice due to the excitement he was experiencing.
She moaned in delight as they intertwined their bodies, making a mess of the sheets again. About and hour later, they both got up and made their way to the shower so that they could get ready for the day. Once they were clean, and a little more play was done, they made their way out to where the rest of the group was preparing breakfast. Matt took a seat at the table to read reports that the military had delivered to the door while Morgan made her way to the kitchen to help out.
James and Chris sat down next to Matt and began to chat about the plans that he planned to start working on today. While discussing, the rest of the group joined them at their table for breakfast.
"So, where do you plan to set up base at." Kate asked.
"I'm unsure at the moment. I have a few good prospects, but other than that I have no idea." Matt said.
"If I may, sir." Said Dom. None of the group had actually heard the man speak since the day that Matt had cleared the settlement of criminals. His face wasn't bad to look at, but he had a scar that covered the majority of his face. After stating that he had something to say, he pulled a map from his pocket and spread it out on the table. It had a few circles and marks on it that seemed to be other settlements or places to get supplies. The most notable, was a mark that was done in red.
"If I may be so bold, sir. If you build your base there, then not only should building it take lest time due to the structures that were already there, but it would be easily defendable." Dom said as he gestured to the red mark on the map.
"There is a catch isn't there." Matt said.
"Yes, that is the location of a five story hospital that my crew had previously marked as a potential nest." Dom said.
Matt's interest was piqued at the thought of taking down another hive so soon. The previous one had given him a giant power boost. It was safe to say that he was nigh invincible at the current status of the apocalypse. Not to mention that he had gained an a new ability crystal from the woman that could control blood. If every hive had powers like that contained inside, then it would be a huge wind fall.
"You have my interest. What do you know about the hive?" Matt asked.
"I only know that the building was completely intact and that it had a large horde of various types of infected surrounding it. The windows were all pitch black though, so what ever is inside should have an ability that deals with darkness or something similar." Dom said.
"Well, the location isn't that far from here so you and I will go scout it out. If I think it is a hive and that I can take it out in one go, I will do so. Otherwise, we will regroup and make a full strike." Matt said.
With plans made, they all began to go about their days. The rest of the group were to stay behind and train while Matt and Dom went to the hospital. The two left through the gates and traveled by the roof tops since they were both strong and agile. It took them about three hours since Matt couldn't just run of and leave Dom and he hadn't tested the space ability that he had gained so he didn't know if he could bring people along.
Testing his new found ability took some time so he had put it to the side for now. They finally arrived at a building across the street from the large hospital. The scene was rather odd though since it didn't look anything like what had been described anymore. There wasn't a horde surrounding the building any longer and the surroundings were oddly quiet. All the windows were blown out and the structure itself seemed to be crumbling.
"This is the same building right?" Matt asked.
Dom nodded in reply since he didn't know what to say. It had only been a few days since he last saw the building. He didn't know how a building could change so much in that amount of time.
While the two were standing there, the building began to shake. It seemed that it was going to collapse at any moment. Matt felt a tinge of danger for a moment which prompted him to grab Dom and teleport away without any regard if his space ability would be able to handle it or not. They both cleared the distance without a scratch which made Matt glad that he had succeeded, but he still didn't feel happy about the situation.
Moments after they shifted positions, the building they were standing on was crushed. The hospital was now standing with arms coming out of the side they couldn't see from their vantage point. The whole building had become one large infected.
