Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Mysterious man

After such a dramatic revelation of who she was at present, Lily was not amused.

In this world, her name is Bai He. She is the third daughter of General Bai, and like how almost all those cliché protagonists of a fantasy novel are, she too was not favoured by the General because she was born from a lowly concubine mother.

Also, like most novels are, Bai He's biological mother was dead, leaving her to fend for herself in the cruel manor.

One thing that she could feel happy about Bai He, of course, like how it always be, she was devastatingly beautiful, and that incited the jealousy of her half-sisters. How did they write it again?

A beauty, too beautiful that can cause the downfall of a country?

Lily lips twitched because of the cliché plot.

Other than that, Bai He did not seem to know different things, and she was not qualified to be educated with the daughter of the first wife. Who knew what happened to Bai He that she ended up dying, leaving Lily to occupied her body.

Bai He seemed to be a typical pathetic female character. Other than not being favoured by her father, she was also bullied by her half-siblings. Even the servants made fun of her. Growing up without someone who had her back was truly difficult. Bai He was timid and a scaredy-cat. She could not even stand for herself, and she can only cry whenever someone bullied her.

In short, this body of hers now was just a weakling not loved by anyone. Maybe the servant girl, Xiao Ting, loved her. Lily was not sure. It would be cruel if not even one person loved this Bai He.

Even though Lily sympathised with Bai He, having to take over her body was unfortunate on Lily's side. There must be something wrong with the body too since those memories were the only memories came to her head.

"There is something wrong with Third Miss. She couldn't remember anything. There must be something wrong with her head. Please treat her." Lily could hear the desperation in Xiao Ting's voice.

Lily did not know what to do or how to act in this situation because she did not know how people in this world or era worked. So, by considering the pitiful Bai He's personality and how somebody always bullier her, Lily did the best thing she could – she pretended to be sick and weak.

She lay down on the dusty wood floor and made her hair dishevelled. Then, she pretended to gasp for air as if she could not breathe right.

When the door opened, Lily could see that Xiao Ting came with an older man wearing a white robe. He had a long beard, and for some reasons, Lily could feel the divine aura coming off from the older man.

Will this be the legendary godly doctor mentioned in the transmigration novel?

Lily shut her eyes and exaggerated her breathing.

"Third Miss! What is wrong with you?" Xiao Ting ran to Lily's side and tried to help her, but since she was just a naive side character who knew nothing about medicine, her actions were sloppy and caused Lily to fall and bump her bum on the hard wooden floor.

Lily wanted to yelp, but that would expose her acting, so she bit her lips to suppress the pain. She peeked at the doctor in a white robe and saw that the old man was moving slowly as if her life was not that important at all.

The old man stroked his long beard while looking at Lily.

"This is the first time I come across such case." The old man approached Lily, who was lying on the floor, pretending to have fainted. "There is Something weird about Miss Bai He. As if she is not herself, but at the same time, she is still herself in many ways."

Lily froze. Did he know?

Xiao Ting could not understand the underlying meaning of what the doctor said about her Third Miss. She only knew that the Third Miss has been acting weirdly after she woke up from passing out.

Her Third Miss accidentally stepped on the silk handkerchief of the First Miss, which mysteriously appeared on the floor. The First Miss was furious about it and ordered her servant to beat the Third Miss in the name of 'discipline.'

The Third Miss, Bai He passed out after a few beating and even after all that, the First Miss was still unsatisfied and ordered her servant to lock the Third Miss in the woodshed. No one was allowed to send food or drink to the Third Miss.

But how could Xiao Ting let her master went through this difficulty? She secretly went to the shed to see her master. But who knew that when her master woke up, she acted strangely.

Xiao Ting had a suspicion that the beating must have messed up her master's mind. With that in mind, she started crying once again. She was wailing so hard that even the divine doctor frowned upon seeing her.

Lily wanted to pretend a little bit more, but all the crying from Xiao Ting made her head throbbing with pain. She did not have any other choice other than to end her charade earlier.

Lily pretended to open her eyes. She fluttered her eyes to make everything seemed believable. Like those characters, she watched in the movies and drama.

"Xiao Ting…" Lily spoke weakly and quietly.

Before Xiao Ting could help her Third Miss, the doctor beat her to it and took Lily's hand to check her pulse.

"Please excuse my rudeness, Miss Bai He." The doctor proceeded to take the pulse. A moment later, he let go of the wrist and continued to stroke his beard once again.

"I am going to give the prescriptions to the general.' After that, the doctor took off without saying anything. Both Lily and Xiao Ting did not stop him.

"How did you managed to invite the doctor to see me?" Based on the memory that came to her mind, since Bai He was an unfavoured daughter, she rarely gets to see the doctor for treatment even if she needs any.

"I went into the great hall to tell the master about Third Miss. I failed to notice that there were some other people there too, including the great doctor. Luckily, the master is very kind to ask the great doctor to see the Third Miss. Third Miss, you are fortunate."

Xiao Ting stopped crying but still sobbed.

It made sense now. Lily fought the urge to roll her eyes.

General Bai could not care less about a concubine daughter like herself, but he likes to keep his face so much that sometimes, he would pretend to be a benevolent person mostly when outsiders were present.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the great hall, when the great doctor came into view, he was still stroking his beard as if he was in a long thought.

General Bai did not wait until the doctor came near him, but she strode towards the doctor while displaying a worried look on his face.

"Great doctor Hua, how is my daughter?" General Bai showed such concern on his face that when people looked at him, they will think that General Bai doted on the Third Miss.

"Something is interfering Miss Bai He's thread of fate and destiny. It was strange; I could not think of any possible reason for now. She must have bumped her head somewhere so it would be normal if she could not remember certain things." The great doctor who was known as Doctor Hua did not elaborate more, so it left many rooms of misunderstanding for people. "I already wrote down the prescription for Miss Bai He. She will need time and tranquillity to recuperate. I hope Miss Bai He can recover well."

The General did not inquire more, but he made his assumption that the third daughter of him had something wrong in her head.

"I understand. Thank you, great doctor Hua." General Bai bowed to the other guests who were present in the great hall while showing a regretful expression. "I am sorry gentlemen. I have shown such disgraceful things to all of you today."

One guest who did not get along well with the General smiled. "Don't worry about it. Even though the Third Miss of the Bai House is strange in her head, the General's house still has other beautiful daughters."

The comment was very misleading. It seemed as if the Third Miss was a lost cause – a crazy girl.

The other guests did not want to have bad blood with the general household, so they replied with some polite remarks except for one man who wore a red robe with dragon embroidery.

Since the man did not say anything, the other guests kept quiet and waited for him to say something.

"If Miss Bai He takes the prescription as instructed by the great doctor Hua, she will recover soon." The man looked at the guests uninterestedly.

General Bai heard the words and asked the steward to prepare the prescription for the Third Miss hurriedly. After that, General Bai invited all the guests to go to the garden for a feast.

The man in the red robe had a strange smile on his face, but no one was brave enough to question him about it.
