Chapter 5: CHAPTER 5
Even though, everyone knows that it's better to tell the truth we choose the easy way because we are cowards. What we forget is that while time passes the lies we tell become even more, so many that we end up living a lie without realising it.
As we keep lying we try to convince ourselves that everything is alright, that we haven't forgotten who we are and that everyone will stay by our side. Then we end up alone and realise that being honest would have saved us. Yet it's too late.
I was preparing myself something to eat when I heard my phone ringing. It was Ryan and surprisingly I felt happy.
"Hey Ryan! What's up?"
"I know that we don't go well with each other but I... Do you want to go on a date with me?"
"Oh! I didn't expect that coming!"
"Hey! Is that even an answer?"
"Well... I guess no."
"So you don't want to go on a date with me."
"Wait, what? No, it's not that!"
"So, then you want."
"Yeah, why not?"
"Really?"
"Yep."
"Then I'll pick you up at 7. "
"There's no need. Just send me the location."
"Ok, see you."
"Bye."
It was the first time to feel so excited about a date. I wore a nice red dress matching it with the perfect pair of high heels. As for the rest, I tried to stick to my natural look because looking like myself was the only thing I could do without faking it.
The restaurant he chose was pretty luxurious and the moment I looked at it I understood how he had impressed so many girls before me. Yet I'm not the type of girl that feels comfortable in a luxurious restaurant. I would even say that I feel awkward and not in place. In my opinion the simplest things are the best.
"Hey!" I said waving at Ryan.
"So you came."
"Why wouldn't I?"
"I don't know..."
"Ok... So let's take a look at the menu..."
"Later... We need to talk." he said with a cold expression on his face.
"What's wrong?"
"If you're Kevin's girlfriend then why did you come here?"
"I have told you before that I'm not Kevin's girlfriend!"
"Are you sure about that?"
"Of course!"
"Don't lie to me! We both know what the truth is!"
"I don't know what are you talking about so let's go out to discuss it because you're creating a scene and everyone is looking at us."
"Then let them see what a nice girl you are!"
"I don't understand!"
"Let me make it clear for you then. You went on a date with your current boyfriend's brother!"
"Wait....What?"
"Don't even try to deny!"
"Ryan shut up! You know nothing!" I said looking at him angrily.
"Really? Samantha told me everything!"
"Samantha?"
"Yes! She told me about what you have discussed the other day!"
"What did she say?"
"You asked her about me. If I have a girlfriend or not. Is that true?"
"No!"
"You also told her that it doesn't matter you are Kevin's girlfriend because you only want to play with me! Is that true?"
"Of course not! Actually she..."
"Don't! Whatever you say I won't believe you."
"Ryan I'm trying to tell you that..."
"You want to tell me what? That you're only a girl who is bored and wants somebody to entertain her?"
And then I slapped him.
"You'll regret about what you just said but then it will be too late to apologise." I said and left.
Right after what happened I called Kevin because at that moment he was the only one I could trust.
"Kevin can you come over?"
"Did something happen? You don't like inviting people."
"Please come! I'll tell you later!"
"Ok... I'll be there in ten minutes."
And so he did.
"What's wrong Sara?"
"I went on a date with Ryan."
"Oh... And it was that bad?"
"It was worse.... Do you remember what I told you about Samantha?"
"Yes..."
"I guess for revenge she told Ryan that I want to date both of you at the same time. She said that I'm your girlfriend and if he asks me on a date I would accept. Then he asked me on a date and I said yes without knowing that he thinks I'm your girlfriend. Also when we were at the restaurant he was yelling at me in front of everyone humiliating me. "
"Didn't you tell him what actually happened?"
"He didn't want to listen to me at all!"
"I can talk to him. He will believe me and then everything will be alright."
"Don't."
"Why?"
"Because if he didn't want to listen to me then there is no point in trying."
"Why?"
"If he likes me as he claims he should at least hear both stories."
"Ok... But you can't be like that."
"What's wrong with me?"
"You're lying on your sofa wrapped with a comforter like a burrito eating a ton of chocolate."
"So?"
"Get up, get your shit together and we're going clubbing."
"You can go. I don't want to."
"When I was a mess you were there to help me. Now I'm here for you."
"Ok then."
"Get ready! I'll wait here."
"I'm going."
"Are you still here? Hurry up!"
"Yes your majesty!" I said ironically and went to get ready.
Clubbing is not the best thing in this world but at least it fixed my mood. Yet my good mood lasted only a few moments because I must be the most unlucky person on the planet.
"Kevin let's go somewhere else."
"Why? What happened?"
"Ryan is here. Look over there."I said pointing at the bar.
I had already turned around ready to go but Ryan saw Kevin who was looking at him.
"Hi Kevin. What are you doing here?"
"I think I don't owe you any explanations."
"Ok.... Who's that?" he asked probably looking at me.
"Turn around. There is no escape." Kevin said to me.
I turned around and my eyes met Ryan's.
"You!"
"Hi."
"You little..."
"Ryan I'm leaving. I don't have time to argue with you. Kevin let's go."
And that was it. The night was completely ruined not once but twice.
"Are you ok?" Kevin asked when we went outside.
"Yeah, totally."
"He was quite angry."
"I know."
"So what about going to..."
"Kevin stop! We are just going to sleep. Nothing more for tonight."
"Together?"
"What? Of course not! I'll go to my house and you'll go to yours."
"Sad... I had hopes."
"Only in your dreams."
"Let me walk you home then."
"Ok."
We fell in a comfortable silence until we reached our destination.
"So I guess it's goodnight." he said to me.
"Goodnight Kevin."
I fell asleep almost immediately but I had nightmares all night. This was the worst night for the last two months. Yet nothing can compare to what I had to endure back then.
