Chapter 326: 20

That just reminded me of the subtle attraction I felt towards her even now. I was grateful that Goliath was willing to do so much for her. Goliath's friendship with the werewolves was probably the only reason he was willing to look past the fact that we were Archiacs. I knew I'd have to thank him properly for all he was doing sometime, but right now I had levels to grind, and those green dots to investigate. Savannah was decent at speaking for me whenever I was absent, and Ethan simply wouldn't allow anyone to approach me right now.

He knew better then anyone that despite my lack of visible injuries that I felt like I'd been run over by a steam roller. I scanned the map again with my inspect skill. Some of the red dots were getting awfully close to the settlement so I guess it would be a good time to go for a walk because I felt to crappy, and stiff to fly. Walking out into the sunlight through the doors instead of one of the holes I'd put in the building was starting to make me feel guilty about punching the holes. I'd have to find a way to pay for those damages so it didn't weigh on my conscious anymore.

Granted they'd still have to get someone to actually do the repairs even if I did pay for them. I didn't bother hiding the fact that I was out, and about alone. Ethan wanted to follow, but I instructed him to stay, and rest. I wasn't planning on going far. Not while I couldn't freely use mana.

My armed escort followed me as I calmly walked to the gates. Many people that I saw on the streets moved into the buildings as I passed. Trying to avoid me entirely. I didn't blame them. I hadn't exactly been kind when I exposed Vernon's true nature.

I'd reacted violently as usual. Acting exactly like the predator I was. Lashing out at a fool that had put my bonded in danger. Even just thinking about his stupidity made me grit my teeth, and pulled my lip up just a little. Killing something would definitely ease some of my tension.

Some of those spiders would have to do for now. Even though Vernon was the one I really wanted to kill right now. I stopped at the gates, and lowered my head to the one person that couldn't go inside to hide right now since he was manning the gate controls.

"Could you open the gates for me?" I kept my teeth retracted so he'd only see gummy mouth if he managed to catch a glance inside my maw.

My head was still a good ten feet away from him, but that didn't stop him from swallowing his fear. He stepped to the side. Looking past me to my escort. I turned my head slightly so I could observe them both. Clifton gave him a nod, and the guy moved slowly back over to the controls.

Opening the gate so I could get past. Interesting. Seems like Clifton is in charge of keeping an eye on me now. I didn't know if I should be glad that they just decided to put guys on me or upset that they didn't trust my good behavior up until now anymore. I guess I should have expected this much.

Dropping a bombshell like human level intelligence was a lot to take in after all. Especially from someone that was nowhere near human. Elves, demons, dwarves, and many of the other intelligent Archaics were human shaped at the very least. It was rare for an intelligent Archaic race not to have a human like shape. Elves, and demons were the only ones I knew of that were actively attacking us right now.

Both races currently far surpassed the individual power of each soldier humans could raise, and humans had a shorter lifespan as well so the maximum combat ability of each individual human could never reach the years of experience the high elves had. Humans needed an edge to end this conflict, and claim earth only for themselves. To a certain degree it made since for dragons to be that edge. Humans had evolved to be able to take on massive amounts of mana, and let it surge through them harmlessly. Expelling the qualities of the mana that would normally harm a mage like myself.

My bond to Savannah, and Jax enhanced this ability to the extreme. I didn't think they'd noticed it yet, but ever since we'd bonded they hadn't gotten mana sickness even once. Almost as if they'd evolved this ability specifically to bond with dragons. Dragons who were constantly expelling extra mana into their environment. That much overflow would kill most beings.

Making them bleed from everywhere like Savannah had seen when her father tried forcefully awakening the ability to use mana in his students. I couldn't even begin to imagine the amount of mana he had to waste to cause that sort of damage in a human. He probably had to expend most if not all of his mana reserve to get that kind of reaction from a human body. I snorted as I plodded through the tall grass. I wasn't quite tall enough to clear the six foot high grass so I was knocking most of it down as I walked.

Making a clear, and obvious path that the Humvee could follow as I watched the grass for any movement. If I saw something I froze for a little while to observe. The smaller weaker beasts had chosen to flee instead of face me so a lot of the movement was just false alarms. I was more worried about any movement that was headed toward me since I'd started releasing a low level field of murderous intent all around me. Practically screaming that I'd kill anything that approached me.
