Chapter 20: Dave the gatekeeper
I had bin dating this guy named John for a few months now. It was really great between us but thre was one thing that really bothered me about him and the problems name was Dave.
His arrogant asshole of a best friend and roommate. That guy was just the worst.
It wouldn't had been so bad if it were possible to just ignore him but they lived together so that meant that every time I visited John, Dave was also there.
I had really tried to be nice to him because I knew he meet a lot to John but everytime he opened his mouth he only made some arrogant or passive aggressive comment about me. Like for example that John's ex girlfriend was hotter than me or that I shouldn't get to comfortably because the relationship wouldn't last long.
I had talked about it with John but he just said that Dave is weird and I just need time to get use to him.
That really pissed me off but I was not about to give my man up just because of that asshole. Oh no!
So I decided that if he wanted war he could have it!
From then on out I used my 'assets' or other dirty tactics to get John's attention everytime Dave tried to intervene and it always worked.
One day I had forgotten my keys at John's place. So I asked him if he was home but he said that he wasn't but Dave was.
I really didn't want to interact with him but I also didn't want to wait for hours until John would come home so I went to there apartment and knocked on the door.
A few minutes later Dave opened the door.
He had his usual blank expression and just starred at me.
"I forgot my keys." I said with a fake grin.
He just nodded and stepped out of the way. After I had faunt my keys in John's bedroom I wanted to leave but Dave was blocking the doorframe.
"Could you please move?"
"Why don't you have your keys by now?"
"I do... or are you blind?" I asked him while wiggling the keys in front of his nose.
"Not those. I mean keys for this apartment."
"Why would I have keys for your guys apartment?"
"Because you are here almost every day and I don't think that while change in the future."
I paused for a moment, wandering if I really heard that right.
"Yes but why would you want me to have the key? I thought you hate me..."
"Why would I hate you? You seem perfect for John and he is really happy with you."
"But you...." I was completely lost for words and just starred at him in disbelieve.
He shrugged his shoulders and then said with a calm voice "I just wanted to make sure you really like John and don't run away just because it becomes a little bit difficult. We both know John is way too trusting and soft most of the time, so the girls he had before just played with his heart."
"So you were an asshole because you wanted to make sure John doesn't fall for someone that would hurt him?"
"Yes."
There was an awkward silence between us and then I asked "Okay....so...peace?"
"Yes peace and I also give you my blessing."
With that he just walked off and left me standing there.
A week later John gave me a key for there apartment and even made space in his closet for me so I could leave some clothes there. Dave also stopped being an asshole and I noticed that he wasn't such a bad person after all.
