Chapter 2: chapter 2

I tossed and turned with little to no possibility of falling asleep. wondering what the problem could be for the council to address it.

what bothered me is for I to turn out to be the real issue. I know I had raised awareness to other demons after my birth but in the long run they learned to get to terms with my existence without accepting me.

What if they think I pose a real threat to them and the council is deciding my fate.. can this be the no big deal which Mom and Dad are hiding from me?.

I remained perplexed with so much running in my head, I turned to the clock on the night stand to see it's twenty-five minutes past midnight and I wasn't getting any sleep. Dad's soft snores were impossible to filter out in a silence filled ambiance of the house.

I match to the bathroom to splash my face with cold water. I saunter back to the edge of the queen sized bed to sit up straight.

I opened the drawer from the night stand to grab a blister of tricyclic antidepressants. I squish one pill from the blister.

I swallow the pill with water discarding the blister back in the drawer. antidepressants are good for our genes especially when we're on emotional turmoil. it calms the nerves allowing the brain to relax.

I made myself comfortable pulling the covers above me, when my phone buzzed to life on the night stand.

I sat up against the headboard, I picked the phone in my hands to check the caller ID.

it is April... I check the time again thirty-five minutes past midnight. something isn't right.

I pressed the green icon to receive the call and waited for her to speak from the other end of the line.

"Len.. you were right....something is wrong...." she said in her most deadpan tone she could ever muster.

My blood flow picked up as I could feel a rush of adrenaline pumping my body and the hairs at the back of my neck standing firm.

"What's wrong April?..are you okay?"

I catch up with her wild breathing as she fought to calm herself down. Did she run...?

"Should I come?" I finally suggested, she was staying in campus. I could go to her Dom room. it'll cost me a lot of sneaking and fooling the security but I'll make it to her.

"No don't... she said impassively "I don't think it's safe in the streets right now...!"

I was beginning to lose my cool. I had enough pressures as it is.

"April please be more detailed because I'm loosing my mind already!"

she was quiet for a few seconds before she started to speak again.

"There's been a crime scene in the southern mountains.... Two men were found dead in the forestry this weekend..."

I chewed at my bottom lip a bad habit whenever I'm nervous or occupied by something. This couldn't be a coincidence.

"southern forestry... isn't that Lycan's territory?" I asked monotonously.

"I got an insight from one of the Lycan students that, they suspect that vampires have something to do with it..."

my mouth fell a gape. this is absurd how can they accuse without evidence.

"However the council is investigating, if so it happens that vampires are involved....."

She stopped as if anticipating whether to tell me what follows next or not to.

"What happens if we are involved....?" cautiously pausing the question while my brain already came up with its answer but I wanted to hear it from her.

Alpha Ryner will be your worst nightmare..."

And there it was. I didn't need to be born a genius to fill the puzzles. I was glued to the spot with the phone still on my ear.

"I just want you to be careful, the word hasn't spread yet... so only a few people know about this"

"Don't worry April... are you okay though?" I feigned calmness as if my body and brains wasn't going through a Catrina. April chuckled lightly.

"I'd be worried about me if I were you... Even though they never reacted they knew of your existence... we'll talk more at school tomorrow.... Gudnyt"

The line went dead. I did what any other sane person would do, pulled away the covers speed running out of my room to the hallway. I pushed the handle storming inside their room not bothering to knock.

I found dad standing by the glass window while mom sat at the edges of their bed. Without a doubt Dad eavesdropped on me and April.

"I knew you'd come....." he talked still facing outside the star lit sky from the glass panels.

"Dad what's all this about...? are we involved in this?"

I sounded desperate cause that was just what I was feeling. the repercussions of this crime are too high to meet. As I said before the big dog of the mountains is Bad news... he can't get any worse.

"The council from both sides will decide, until then the matter is best disclosed" Dad stated seriously.

"Athan will meet with Alpha Rayner two days from now, After the council call them to announce their conclusions".

I backed away to the wall slowly.

"What about hunters... why us?"

Dad shook his head as if chasing the thought out his brains.. he must have had the same presumption.

"It can't be Len, there are no wolf hunters in phoenix city, even so there hasn't been a reported stranger in the past few weeks".

"You need to be careful from now on... be on the look out, there's a growing hostility between these two sides... the tension is just too thick we can't rely on the treaty at all". Mom spoke for the first time.

What just happened?... how did things switch from normal to worse. This doesn't sound good at all. the peace treaty between vamps and ware wolves was signed many years by Athan's father the former clan leader and Alpha Matteo the legendary Alpha of the Lycans blood pack.

I was feeling a little heavy.. I didn't want the vampires to war with ware wolves a lot of lives will be taken... Even my parents'. we have to find a solution we can't accept the challenge.

"come...." mom patted the space next to her and I climbed under the covers.

"Don't worry, Everything will be okay...." mom whispered lovingly in my ears.

Ohhh Mom.... I wish if it was that too easy to believe....
