Chapter 3: Earth

Skyla sat down to dinner that night with her mother and father. Her thoughts were on earth and whether or not she had the courage to follow through with her plan. Her parents would be to sleep within a few hours and sneaking out would not be difficult. Once she got to the gate she did not know if she could get the gate open and get out without being caught.

She did not know the punishments for trying to get out the gate or if there would be warriors posted to guard it. It may have a alarm system. So many unanswered questions that caused her to feel scared but excited at the same time.

After dinner she went to her room to continue coming up with a plan. She laid in her bed imagining all that she would see and do. As the night grew later she became more anxious. Her plan all worked out. She had packed a bag with food, water, and some rocks to use to distract the warrior guards if there were any. She figured if a alarm was attached it wouldn't go off until the gate was open, which meant she could run and make it out before anyone could catch her.

A noise outside her door brought her back to reality and she quickly pretended to be sleeping. Her bedroom door creaked open and her mother looked in on her. Quietly she closed the door and walked away. Skyla jumped out of bed and grabbed her bag. She opened her bedroom window and slipped out closing it softly behind her.

Quietly Skyla ran hiding behind houses and trees, stoping only to listen for a few seconds and begin running again. She knew the night would not hide her so was being quick and cautious all at the same time. Finally she arrived at the gate and stood behind a large tree looking around to see the situation at hand. She did not see a warrior so she walked slowly up to the mechanism that would be her freedom.

Skyla took several deep breaths trying to calm her nerves and get her body to stop shaking. She stared at the gate and slowly lifted her hand to touch the mechanism. The metal was warm and not cold like she thought it would be. The warmth made her feel a bit more brave. Skyla took one last deep breath, grabbed the lever and pulled. She twisted the bronze piece and the removed it. She took the silver piece and placed it in the whole.

The gate to Heaven swung open and a loud noise made her stop and cover her ears. Warriors started to run to the gate and Skyla took off running into a portal that transported her to earth.
