Chapter 3: New Arrivals Part Three: You Ready?

Deon and Rai rushed into the house. As they began getting dressed Rai grabbed a small black mask, his sleeveless red hoodie, and his tattered black shorts. Deon grabbed his purple and black shorts, and an unbuttoned turquoise short-sleeve shirt. Rai took off back outside. Before Deon left he reached into the large trunk in front of his bed and pulled out two large blunt stone swords.

"You comin or do I gotta whoop both of em by myself?!"

Rai called out to Deon who was taking his time checking over his swords as usual. Deon closed the trunk and took off.

"You can't even beat Grandma, what are you gonna do with both of em?"

Deon taunted

"Well… You can't beat Grandpa either"

"Yeah but I didn't claim I could"

Deon laughed. For as long as they could remember they had been not only brothers but also rivals. They looked up to their Grandparents as walls they had to scale. Even though they were mountains that could never be climbed, whenever they fought they always went into it intending to win.

As they rushed back towards the training area Rai suddenly jumped and slammed down to where Mahina had been standing. As the dust cleared Mahina poked Rai's cheek

"So close and yet so far"

Mahina teased. As if it wasn't bad enough that she was fast enough to be halfway across the island in the blink of an eye, she also heard EVERYTHING. When Deon swore under his breath in the store, she'd come all the way from the house, smack him in his head, and be back home in less than 2 seconds.

"You do know you're almost sixty right? Isn't it almost time for you to slow down?"

Rai said, still ready to attack again at any moment.

"I'll slow down the day you catch me"

Mahina said, sticking her tongue out at Rai.

"Then you can go ahead and pump the brakes old la-"

Before Rai could finish one of Deon's swords flew past him straight at Robert. Robert stuck out his right hand and caught it, creating a shockwave that made the ground shake and the water move. In the next second, Robert put his left hand up and caught Deon's other sword as he fell from the sky aiming for his Grandfather's head.

"Women don't like a man who comes on too strong."

Robert taunted

"Aww come on, the ladies know I got a soft...TOUCH!"

Deon said as he swung from the sword and kicked at Robert. Robert twisted the sword and flung Deon into the ground before he could hit him. Deon's arm twisted and snapped making a grotesque sound. Before anyone could worry about him he popped back up and whipped his arm out, straightening the bone and healing it in a matter of seconds.

"That all you got?"

"I'm just seein how far that healing factor takes you"

Robert said. As they continued, the gaps between Robert and Mahina and the boys began to show. Although they always let the boys get close, they were never actually able to lay a finger on them. They were like fog, you can see it and it's clearly right in front of you yet when you reach out you can't catch any of it.

After two hours of running around, swinging their hearts out, and getting knocked around, Deon and Rai were worn out. Robert and Mahina knocked them both into the same tree as they did every time training was finished.

"I *hah* almost hit him *hah*. One more *hah* push and I would've *hah* won."

Deon said, exhausted

"Yeah? Well *hah* I swear *hah* I felt the fabric of Grandma's clothes."

Rai said, equally exhausted. They looked at each other, laughed, and then fist-bumped before helping each other up and heading into the house. As they neared the house both of them jumped back, ready to fight after feeling intense bloodlust emanating from behind them.

Robert and Mahina stood there, staring at them. Usually by the time they got up to go inside Mahina and Robert were already in the house cooking. Without saying a word, Mahina and Robert each kicked things towards the sky. As they landed next to the boys they formed craters in the sand.

Mahina had kicked what looked like black ankle socks over to Rai. Much to Rai's dismay, the socks were much heavier than regular socks. The felt like they had weights sewn into them. As he picked them up he realized that they may end up messing up his mobility if he were to wear them.

"Grandma there's no way I can p-"

He stopped. Mahina was glaring at him, ignoring everything he was saying. Rai hesitated. His Grandmother was ready to kill him. Her gaze pierced through his soul. Instead of scaring for some reason, it excited him. He may have been Mahina's protege but he shared his Grandfather and brother's love for fighting

As Rai began to put on the socks Deon and Robert never broke eye contact. Without saying a word Deon instinctively matched the bloodlust Robert had as soon as he turned around. Without looking away Deon dropped the stone swords on his back. After they fell to the ground he slowly walked over to the two steel swords that his Grandfather had kicked to him.

Mahina noticed Robert's eyes and slowly walked over to him. Without alarming him she carefully placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Bos… test him. Don't kill him."

Something about this whole thing just made her extremely uneasy. Mahina was always very attentive to detail. She had a feeling that something was off but she couldn't put her finger on what it was. As long as she warned Robert to go easy she was sure everything would be fine.

"Of course hon. I'm not gonna really hurt-"

Robert had only taken his eyes off Deon for a moment. That moment was more than enough for Deon to have his sword almost take off Robert's head. Although he caught the sword, he didn't get away unscathed. A drop of crimson red blood slid down the sword to the hilt. As Robert once more locked eyes with Deon, he realized that the same crimson red that he saw on the sword was in his eyes.

Deon had marbled brown eyes. No matter how much your mood or intent changed it wouldn't change the natural color of your eyes. While all of this was happening Rai had finished putting on the socks. They were heavy and soft on the inside but hard on the outside. As Rai let his electricity flow through his feet, he realized that the power had been amped up at an incredible rate.

Rai noticed that there was a swirling electric blue symbol pulsating all over the socks. He couldn't make out what it was but the power of it was clear. As he felt this power in him something changed. While Robert and Mahina were still focused on Deon, Rai burst forward full force towards Mahina.

Barely missing, Rai slammed his foot into the sand. As he landed, the entirety of the beach was electrified. Portions of the sand flew into the air and feel down as glass.

"Hold on Rai, something is going on with De-"

Rai whipped around towards Mahina. She caught a glimpse of his eyes. Like Deon, Rai had beautiful brown eyes. Not now though. Now his eyes were sharp blue. The same blue that coursed through him from the socks.

Both Mahina and Robert were extremely confused. Despite not knowing what was going on, there was no time to figure it out. Deon and Rai were already in fight mode. Until they were knocked out there was no talking to them. As Rai Vanish in a blue blaze, launching himself at Mahina, Deon snatched his sword free from Robert's grip.

Deon continued to swing for his Grandpa's neck. The bloodlust he had earlier was nothing compared to now. Killing intent oozed from every move he made, every step he took, and every swing of his sword. He wasn't trying to kill Robert, he was trying to kill any and everybody.

Although Deon and Rai were stronger and faster than ever before, they were still worlds apart from their Grandparents. After they were subdued Robert tried talking to Deon to no avail. After trying three or four more times Robert had lost his patience. Robert reeled back and smacked the crap out of the back of Deon's head.

"IF YOU DON'T STOP CUTTIN UP RIGHT NOW IMMA BEAT THE BLACK OUT YO ASS!"

Humans are amazing creatures. No matter how far gone they may be, the fear of an ass whoopin from a Grandparent is enough to snap them back into reality.

"...huh?"

And just like that Deon and Rai had woken up from their stupor. Deon looked around confused about what had happened. Finally he set his eyes on the swords that Robert had managed to get away from him and he finally saw it….
