Chapter 3: The Giant Ants

How crazy can this system be? It expects me to kill all of them? Look, I'm only level 3 and with all my gamer knowledge, I can only say that these kinds of quests belong to people above level 10.

How the hell will I be able to kill all of them? Especially that Iron Death Bear, that doesn't sound like something I can take out. That bear I killed earlier was just luck.

[Quest 1, 2, and 3 will expire in 10 seconds]

"What?! Expire?! Is it forcing me to choose a quest?! And if I don't, I'll be stuck with quest 4?!"

[...6...]

While I was yelling my head off, it had already reached 6 seconds.

"Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t! What do I pick?! I-I can't deal with 100 creatures! I don't even know what they are yet!"

[...4...]

"I also can't fight an Iron Death Bear, from its name, I can already bet that it'll be menacing!"

[...2...]

"And a Lich, it's probably going to summon some spooky scary skeletons or something!"

[...1...]

"Oh, sh*t! Give me more ti-"

[...0...]

[Quest 1, 2, and 3 have expired. You have accepted Quest 4.]

[Quest: SLAY THEM ALL (0/100 Giant Ants; 0/1 Iron Death Bear; 0/1 Lich)]

Sh*t...

This isn't what I had in mind at all! Isn't this supposed to be a system from the goddess?! Yes, right?! This must be the effect of being a demon because all my choices are so overwhelming!

Damn it, maybe if I wasn't a demon, I would've probably gotten easier quests.

Well, now that I have no choice, I guess I have to get to work. If only I was given the option to escape.

I looked at the left path. Giant ants, huh? I can already tell what they look like.

An image of a giant ant double the size of a human adult flew past my mind. I can feel the goosebumps appearing on my arms.

And so I walked down the left path.

*3 minutes later*

How long have I been walking? It's been like what 2 minutes? I still haven't heard anything except the sound of my footsteps.

Crunch!

Hmm? What was that? It sounded like crunching.

Munch-Crunch!

There was a large figure in the shadows. It was really short, probably at the level of my knees. Damn, it's too dark in here. Maybe I should make a lamp.

The figure somehow noticed me, and it started approaching me. Can it see me?

I looked down at my body and looked at all the glowing blue streaks on my body.

Of course it can see me, I'm like a beacon. But I need to see what is coming at me. I need light.

Oh wait, I have light magic for that.

I started focusing my magic into my hands, and then a glowing white orb appeared in my hands.

[Mana: 20/30]

The same amount of mana as fire, so maybe that's the same for dark magic as well.

I threw the glowing light in my hand up at the ceiling, and it exploded. Light particles scattered everywhere. Now that I had light, I could see the figure clearly.

It was an ant. And pretty big, too. But it wasn't what I imagined. The only thing different about it was that it was big.

The ant snapped its mandibles at me. I looked behind the ant to see what it was biting on earlier, and it was a rat. Poor rat, well, at least you didn't get killed by me.

Hmm, since this ant is so big, it's probably the giant ant I was looking for. Heh heh, and I know just how to deal with it.

A ball of fire appeared on my hand and I let out a smile.

[Mana: 10/30]

The ant started backing off as soon as it saw the blazing orb.

Bugs are always weak against fire. Anime has taught me great stuff.

Foosh!

I don't know if it's me, but the fire was beginning to grow impatient. I think I should throw it now because I'm starting to get a heat wave.

The ant began to back off, but it tripped on the tiny rat's body. Ha, what an idiot.

I threw the fireball at the ant, and then it was engulfed in flames. In a few seconds, it dropped onto the ground as it burned.

[Level up!]

Wow, I leveled up from that? That's sick!

[Fire magic level up! (Lv2)]

Oh, my skills also leveled up? So if I constantly use my skills on something, does it keep leveling up?

[Objective 1: 1/100 Giant Ants]

Well... 99 giants ants to go...

Click-click-click-click~

I turned around and a horde of giant ants were approaching my way.

"Well, that's going to be a bit of trouble, I don't even have anymore mana le-"

[Mana: 40/40]

It's already full? Could it be that every time I level up, it will automatically fill my mana up? Maybe that also goes for my health.

[Health: 130/130]

Now that I notice it, I haven't taken any damage at all, though that bear could have gotten me if it was fast enough.

Well, now that there are more ants coming my way, I can test that hypothesis.

"This is going to be fun, yet bloody."

I made another fireball, and since it leveled up, it had become a bit larger. I threw it at the incoming ants and the flames engulfed them.

[Objective: 5/100 Giant Ants]

[Level up!]

"Hahaha! Keep coming my way!"

*A few minutes later*

[Objective: 48/100 Giant Ants]

[Level up!]

[Fire magic level up! (Lv4)]

Whew, I've taken out the ones that had approached me. I think I should put these available stat points into strength; it looks like my attacks are getting numb. There are these larger ants that can resist multiple fireballs.

Let's see how much I've progressed?

It seems I have leveled up 4 more times. Let's see, a wise player would always distribute the points to strength and defense, so I'll put 5 in strength and resistance. And put 4 in both agility and perception.

[Stats]

Strength: 20

Resistance: 19

Agility: 30

Perception: 20

Aura: 13

(Available stat points: 0)

---

That's better. Now to go kill more ants.

I walked deeper down the path and I encountered larger and more terrifying looking ants. They had spikes and multiple mandibles. And I think I saw one with wings!

I used my [Jab] skill and light magic in order for me to level them up.

After a few minutes passed, I had killed 89 giant ants.

[Objective: 89/100 Giant Ants]

It seems that as I get deeper into the tunnel, I encounter stronger kinds of ants. Well, that is to be expected.

---

[Stats]

Strength: 24

Resistance: 23

Agility: 34

Perception: 24

Aura: 17

(Available stat points: 12)

[Skills]

Fire Magic(Lv5)

Light Magic(Lv3)

Dark Magic(Lv1)

Jab(Lv5)

---

I've been using jab a lot, and it looks like it has leveled up a lot. Light magic as well and fire magic has only gone up one level. It seems the higher level my skills are, the harder it is to level it up.

Now for my stats, I think I'll distribute them equally. 3 in each except aura since I don't know what that does yet.

[Stats]

Strength: 27

Resistance: 26

Agility: 37

Perception: 27

Aura: 17

(Available stat points: 0)

I walked deeper into the tunnel and encounter the last eleven that I needed to take out.

I threw eleven fireballs at them, and I defeated them easily.

[Objective: 100/100 Giant Ants (Completed)]

Finally, now give me my rewards.

[Rewards: Ant Exterminator]

What does that... well, I can already guess what it does.

[Ant Exterminator: Damage on insect-type monsters increased by 10%]

Well, now that I'm done with the extermination, I have to go to the other pa-

Ring!

Huh? What is it now?

[Objective: 0/1 Giant Ant Queen]

Another objective? And Giant Ant Queen?! Oh great, that's going to be fun...

I'm getting tired of killing these ants. I have blood guts all over my hands.

But I can't escape from this, so I have no choice.

I walked deeper down the path once more and eventually I ended up in this room.

I looked around, and there were stalactites on the ceiling. Then I saw a large looming figure in the edge of the cave. It was the ant queen, and I can tell that it is angry because I killed her children. A bit low on the population if you asked me, I expected thousands but instead got a hundred. It's eyes flared as it stomped towards me.

How am I going to kill a queen?

I looked at my surroundings, but I mainly focused on the stalactites. I guess I can do the same to the queen like I did to the bear.

Since my jab has gotten a bit stronger, I think I can shake this entire room.

I walked up to the wall while cautiously watching the queen. It was giving me a murderous glare, like it wanted to murder me because I killed her children. Which I did.

I used [Jab], and my hand crashed into the wall. The cave shook a bit, and then I heard the sounds of spikes breaking off from the ceiling.

I looked up and all the spikes on the ceiling fell off. Some of them dropped onto the queen and pierced some parts of her body. A direct hit.

I looked up, and suddenly one of the spikes on the ceiling was coming towards me. Luckily, I jumped towards the side and avoided the spike.

Eventually, the floor was filled with all the spikes. I'm glad I didn't get hit by them or I would have died.

But is the queen dead?

I didn't receive the notification yet.

Snap!

I heard a sound coming from my back. It's behind me, isn't it?

I slowly looked over my shoulder, and standing behind me was the queen. Now that it was up close, I could see that its two front legs were claws, and they were big. The queen lifted its claws and then tried striking me with them.

I dodged and furthered my distance from the queen. Then I noticed that the queen had a spike buried into her head. If I can just make that go in deeper, then that queen will die. I just need to find a way to get it in deeper so it can pierce her head.

I looked up at the ceiling and there was one more spike on the ceiling, and this one was big.

If I can get that to fall on the queen's head, then I'll complete my objective.

I just need to figure out how I'll get her under the spike, and how I'll get that spike to fall down.
