Chapter 12: Chapter 11

"DOC, is there a chance that we can hold Lucky in this Hospital while we go search for heart donors in other countries?" Lucky's Grandmother asked Axel.

Jayden and Kayden just listen to the conversation while Lucky sleeps soundly.

"She wants to go home to her apartment." She looks frustrated. "She's alone in her apartment. I don't want to go but she might get upset and her heart will be affected if I refuse."

"Well, I can pull some strings to make it happen but, do you think it's fair for your grand-daughter?" Axel does not seem to agree. "I mean, is this what she wants?"

Lucky's Grandmother looks down. "No. She hates Hospitals. She's not just saying anything that's because she's a good kid but I know she doesn't want to be here. All her life, she have always been in the Hospital."

"I suggest you don't."

Lucky's Grandmother looked at him, looking surprised at his answer. "I beg your pardon?"

He stood up from sitting on the sofa and introduced himself. "I am Jayden Dawson. Your grand-daughter's neighbour."

Realization dawned on hear face. "Oh, yes. I know you. Lucky always talked about you whenever she called. I think she has a crush on you."

Only a crush? That's depressing.

'I thought she likes me.'

"As I was saying, Lucky will not be happy if she stays here at the Hospital. She likes teaching and playing with children. She likes to experience life."

"I know that young man, but, I'm worried. She doesn't want someone to be with her in her apartment. She wants to be independent. But you can't take away my worries. Look at her now, what if she's home and she fainted or her heart starts to ache again. Who will help her?"

"I will."

The lady stared at him. "I don't think that's a good idea ---"

"Holding her in the Hospital is not a good idea either." He then looked at the sleeping woman. "Let her live the life she wants, I will support her."

"Do you know what you are saying?" Lucky's Grandmother asked him.

He nodded. "Yes. That means I'll devote my time in taking care of her and supporting her. I don't mind, as long as she's happy, she will never waste my time.

"I don't want to impose on you." The lady said. "My grand-daughter will definitely disturb you."

He smiled. "That's okay with me."

She shook her head. "No. You have a job, I don't want to intrude."

"I don't have a job, but I have a company. It runs even without me handling it so she can't disturb me. And I like to take care of her, if you let me."

The woman sighed. "What will be the arrangement if I agree to this?"

He looked into the lady's eyes to make sure he was not lying. "She will still stay in her apartment. She will still work and do what she ever wants."

"Where will you fit in all that?"

"I'll just support her." He said. "I'm just behind her back, watching over her."

The lady walked towards Lucky then she caressed the girl's cheek and looked at him. "I don't know if she will accept your help. She has always been a brave girl. Facing and surviving cancer, she never gives up on her life. She always fights. She is the one who is sick but, she is the one who encourages us, saying she will recover, that we don't have to worry so much anymore. "

His adorable gummy bear is such a strong woman indeed. A fighter and a survivor.

"If I consent, can I trust you that you will do nothing to harm my grand-daughter?" There was an emotion of doubt in her eyes.

He pointed at Axel. "He's a friend of mine, he can vouch for me."

Axel nodded. "She'll be okay. Jayden can definitely take good care of her. If you want, we can also talk to the owner of the Hospital, she knows Jayden and she can also vouch for him."

The lady took a deep breath of relief. "Thank you." She smiled at him. "Take care of my grand-daughter, okay? Take care of her, I taught her a lot of things that I thought she will need but I know there are a lot of things that she still doesn't know. She is still innocent and it is our fault. We locked her too much at home and in the Hospital so she is like that. Her only references are movies, so bear with her. "

He nodded. "I like her---I mean, her attitude, I like her attitude."

The lady smiled. "Thank you son. I appreciate it."

"It's my pleasure."

She nodded then took Lucky's hand and squeezed it. "You'll be okay, sweetie. Grand-mommy won't stop looking for heart donors for you." She kissed Lucky's forehead and looked at him. "Please tell her I'll just leave for a while. I'll be right back."

He nodded and followed the lady's gaze until she came out of the room.

When the four of them were alone, Kayden sighed. "Jaydee, don't hurt her."

He looked at his twin. "I won't."

"Promise me." He got up from sitting on the sofa and faced him. "I never once hurt you, Jayden. I haven't hurt you physically yet because I'm grateful to you because you sacrificed a lot for me, but when you hurt Lucky, I will beat you. She doesn't deserve that. She deserve an utmost care and respect so be careful with her or I'll be your enemy. "

Jayden stared at Kayden in shock. This is the first time his twin has threatened him. "Why do this?"

"She reminds me of Kylie."

His gaze sharpened. "Don't you dare, Kayden---"

"Don't worry, she's yours." Kayden smiled. "Her attitude reminds me of Kylie, but I don't like her like that."

"Good."

He laughed. "Are you scared?"

His jaw tightened. "If I had tolerated to skip my studies back then, I would not have done that now."

"Chill." Axel intervened with them. "The important thing now is to take good care of Lucky." He looked at him. "You, I know you're still stuck in your past. If you have no intention of taking my patient seriously, let Kayden take care of her---"

"I will take care of her." There was an emphasis on what he said in a sharp voice. "She's mine to protect."

"And Sophia?" Kayden replied. "What are you going to do with her?"

"I'm working on it---"

"Work faster." He pointed to Lucky, "She's fragile. Keep that in mind."

He let out a violent breath. "She's mine to protect, period."

"Okay." Said Axel.

"Don't hurt her." Kayden also said.

He ignored the two.

He went to Lucky's side and held her hand.

'I'll protect you with all I have. You're mine to protect. '

He was startled when her hand moved and she slowly opened her eyes.

Then she smiled brightly when she saw him. "Jayden..."

He sat on the side of her bed. "You feeling better?"

She nodded and spoke softly. "I'm okay than before."

"That's good." He intertwined their fingers. "Do you still feel weak?"

"Just a little." Her voice seemed to soften. But he knew better, that's her real voice. "But I'll be okay, I'm a strong woman."

"That's my adorable gummy bear." He gently pinched her cheek.

The woman frowned. "Don't call me that. It's weird."

Jayden chuckled. "What do you want me to call you? Sweetheart?"

She shook her head.

"Darling?"

Lucky winced. "Just Lucky, please."

"How about baby?"

"It sounds okay but just call me Lucky."

He laughed softly. "Okay just Lucky, what do you want to eat?"

She has this cute smile before answering. "Gummy bears and worms. I have it in my bag."

"I don't think you can eat sweet foods yet."

She snorted and sniffed. "But it's my happy food."

"I'm here, I can be your happy thingy."

She rolled her eyes at him. "You're not a food, you can't be eaten and also you're not sweet."

He stopped himself for laughing out loud. "I can be eaten."

She has this confused look on her face. "How can you be eaten? How? I'm gonna lick you like a lollipop? Like that?"

"Yeah."

Lucky winced. "I don't want to. I want to bite and chew something."

"That's not possible for me." Smiling he said. "It will hurt."

"That's not really possible. You can't bite and chew a human being, Jayden."

He just shook his head. "You don't even know what I was talking about."

"What were you talking about?" She asked, confused.

"Nothing." He smiled and caress her jaw and neck with his thumb. "Anyways, when you're okay tomorrow, you can get out of the Hospital the next day."

Her face brighten. "Really? Yey! I miss my students."

Seeing her happy face, he knew he just made the right decision. "Rest, so you can be okay."

She adjust her position on the bed to rest properly. "Okay." She said and closed her eyes. "Jayden?"

"Yes?"

"Thank you."

He was stunned. "For?"

"For coming back. I thought when you left earlier, you would never come back."

He squeezed her hand, that was intertwined with his. "I realize these past few days that I always find myself coming back to you. Even though I restrain myself, I still come back to you and wanted your attention."

She smiled, her eyes still closed. "Thank you. Don't leave again, okay?"

"Yes, I won't leave again ."

Her grip tightened on his hand and then she lay down sideways on the bed then in a matter of seconds, her breathing deepened.

She's asleep again. Good, she needs it. She needs to rest.

He stroked her forehead and slowly parted their hands together but before it parted, her grip tightened on his hand as if she did not want to let go of it.

He smiled and and just let their hands intertwined.

He turned and saw Axel and Kayden talking. "Hey, Kayden, can you get me some clothes? I'm gonna sleep in the Hospital tonight.

"Sure." He tapped Axel on the shoulder then approached him. "Key?"

Using one of his free hand, he took the key from his pocket and handed it to his twin. "Here. Are you on duty now?"

He looked at the wristwatch. "Later, why?"

"Are you busy?"

"I have an operation later but if you need anything, I can find a way."

He nodded. "I need to be in Robert White's house tonight at 9 P.M. He will wait for you in his study. He said do not enter the front door."

"And?"

"Get the papers that he should give me but he has a Board Meeting. I need those papers to monitor the sales, investments and other financial movement in Dawson's Shipping Lines."

"All right, I'll take it." Kayden put his hands into his hips. "It's good that Robert hasn't betrayed us yet and he hasn't told others that the two of us are really alive."

He shook his head. "Robert is on our side that's why I entrusted him our Company. And Williams is also monitoring the Dawson's Shipping Lines since he's one of the stock holders."

"Is there a problem?"

"Nothing. Everything is going well."

"Good. All right, I'm leaving. I'll just dropped your clothes here later." He looked at Lucky first then whispered. "Don't be such a softy baby girl---"

"Did you just called her baby girl?" He asked in a sharp voice.

Kayden backed away slightly then scratched his nape. "Yes." When he answered, he immediately ran out of the room.

He shook his head and Axel laughed who also approached at him.

"I'm leaving too." He said.

"All right. I'll call you if Lucky wakes up."

He just nodded then put his hand in the pocket of the Doctor's robe he is wearing and left the room.

When he and Lucky were alone, he stared at the woman and he couldn't stop himself from leaning closer into her and giving her a tender kiss on the lips. When he was not satisfied, he repeated it three times.

And when he pulled away, he chuckled and kissed Lucky on the forehead.

'I can't believe I'm stealing kisses now.'

If his idiot friends find out about this, they will definitely tease him all day and he's done.

Really utterly done.

STAYING IN THE HOSPITAL is what Lucky hates the most but it is necessary because she is still recovering. After two days, Dr. Axel finally allowed her to get out of the Hospital.

Her Grand-mommy accompanied her to her apartment.

"Take care, okay?" Her Grand-mommy said as she let her know that she was leaving. "I let you come back here on one condition."

Smiling she nodded. "Jayden will watch over me. Yes, Grand-mommy, you already told me that many times now."

Her grandmother hugged her and then kissed her on the forehead. "I'm leaving. Always be careful. I'll always call you, okay?"

"Okay." She kissed her Grandmother on the cheek. "Love you, Grand-mommy."

She cupped her face and stroked her cheek before finally leaving.

When she was alone, she remembered her Grandmother's plea for her to let Jayden watch over her.

She then thought. How will Jayden watch over her?

She wonders.

She was about to enter her room when there was a knock on her apartment's door.

"Who's there?" She asked loudly as she approached the door.

"Its Jayden."

She opened the door then smiled at the man. "Hey, need something?"

He showed her the paper bag he was holding. "Gummy bears?"

Her smile widened. "Gimme!"

Chuckling, he gave her the paper bag. "Here, enjoy."

She nodded while grinning. "Do you want to go inside?"

"I would have come in even if you hadn't let me in."

She laughed. "Come on in."

When Jayden entered, he immediately confronted her. "Have you eaten?"

She shook her head as she peered into the contents of the paper bag. "So many...I'm salivating."

She was startled when Jayden touched her chin and lifted her face.

"W-What?" She asked.

"Do you want me to cook for you?"

A happy smile was drawn on her lips. "Really? Yey! Wait, can you just teach me how to cook now?"

"You sure you're up to it?" There was concern in his voice. "You just got out of the Hospital."

"I'm okay. Wait here." She hurried into her room to hide the Gummy bears Jayden had bought and then took an apron from her closet and put it on while walking back to the kitchen.

"I'm ready!" She said excitedly. "What will I do first?"

The man approached her and stopped just a few feet away from her.

Lucky lips parted when she felt the heat of his body and when he leaned in, her her heart is throbbing. If she had no idea that Jayden had this effect on her, she would think she would have a heart attack again.

But no she knew better, this is Jayden's effect on her because she like him as a man.

"J-Jayden---"

"Stay still." He whispered over her lips while he reached out his hands around her back to tie her apron. "Always tie this part so it won't be messy." Then he looked at her, his lips still hovering over hers, "Does it really all of your aprons are all pink?"

She could not think. "D-Do you really need to be close? I-I feel awkward."

"Get used to it." He said then kissed the bridge of her nose. "I hate being away from you so, I'll stay really, really close."

She gulped. "This close?"

"Yes."

"I---I don't think this is healthy for me. I---I'm hyperventilating..."

His smile attacks her heart. Goodness! Why am I feeling like this? Do I really like him this much?

"If I kiss you, will you push me away like the first time."

She blinked. "T-That was my first kiss. I think I have the right to push you. You surprised me."

He finished tying her apron and both of his hands were already holding her waist. "If I kiss you now, will you be surprised?"

"Let's just cook. I prefer that---"

"You don't like my kiss?"

"N---No, but---"

"Should I kiss you again?"

"No---y-yes. I don't know. Let's just cook."

A smile drew on the man's lips then he gently hugged and kissed her forehead. "Lucky?"

Her face is pressed against his chest. "Hmm?"

"Thank you."

She frowned. "For?"

"For giving me a reason to live."

She looked up to him, frowning and worried. "What do you mean? You sure have no intention of harming yourself---" He looked away. "--- holy mother of God." She cupped his face and make him look at her. "Please tell me I'm wrong."

He shook his head. "You're not."

He's this broken? To actually think of harming himself?

She shook her head. "Don't do it, Jayden. I, oh my God, please don't. I'll do anything, just please don't even entertain that thought in your head. I'm fighting for my life, please fight for yours as well. Tell me what you want, I'll hear you just please, fight it, please... "

"Shhh..." He held her hand on his face then smiled at her. "I'm okay. You're here. You're enough reason to live."

She stared at the man in the eye. "When you think of hurting yourself, talk to me. I will not allow it, I am fighting for my life, so I can fight for yours too."

He nodded then smiled at her. "Shall we cook?"

She looked at him first before nodding "All right."

But he did not move. He just kept staring at her as he caressed her waist.

He's looking at her like she's the most amazing person he has ever met.

"Jayden---"

"Stay still." He stopped her from moving. "Let me look at you for a couple of seconds."

"Why?"

"You amazed me."

She did what he requested. She let him stared at her.

"Will you mind if I kiss you?" He asked in a low voice.

"Yes. I'll hyperventilate."

"Even if I kiss you slowly?"

"I---d-don't know." Will she hyperventilate?

"Let's see and tell me." He said then suddenly cupped her face and pressed his lips to hers.

She held her breath as his lips moved to hers.

His kiss was slow, soft and inviting and the next thing she knew, she was moving her lips, mimicking the movement of his.

Jayden groaned and pulled away from her, he's catching his own breath and his hands are clenched. His jaw is tightening, his eyes squeezed shut.

"A-Are you okay?" She asked worriedly. "D-Did I do something wrong?"

He let out a violent sigh then shook his head and opened his eyes. "No. You're okay. I just can't help myself, I might do something to you. "

She blinked. "What are you going to do to me?"

"You're definitely not ready for it. Why did you respond to my kiss anyway." He said then turned his back on her and approached the meat he had left in the slicing board and started slicing the meat again while he kept taking deep breaths and whispering. 'Down boy. Down, damn it!'

She pouted. "Why are you angry? You were the first one to kiss suddenly. I just imitated what you were doing."

When he did not speak and his slicing of the meat accelerated, she approached him then positioned herself behind him and hugged him in his waist.

She felt him stilted.

"Thank you for telling Grand-mommy to watch over me." She said as she kissed his back. "I really appreciate it, Jayden. And I know you're mad right now because I kissed you back but can I cook with you please?" She pouted. "It's a pity I'm already wearing an apron, a really cute apron."

She heard him laugh softly then he faced her while she was still hugging him "Fine. Ready the pan and we'll cook together."

"Yes!" She said excitedly and hurriedly followed. "What's next?" She asked Jayden when she prepared the pan.

"Come back here and hug me."

She glared at him. "I don't want to! I want to cook!" She stomped her feet. "You said you're gonna teach me! When I approach you, you will just want to cuddle and then you will just kiss me. I don't want to! No!"

"Then cut these." He said and pointed to the green veges in the sink. "Come on, chop-chop, I'll still want to cuddle you and kiss you more, so hurry up."

She rolled her eyes at him but she still obeyed. She chopped the green veges and gave it to him afterwards.

"Am I the one to mix the ingredients with what we're cooking?" He asked the man who had already put oil in the pan.

"I'll do it. We might both get sick in the kidney if you mix the ingredients and put the seasonings."

She slapped him on the back. "You're an idiot."

Blake turned around her looking shocked. "Wow, you can use the word idiot?"

"Yes and that's you. I thought you were going to teach me?"

He sighed. "Yes, just don't make our food salty."

She was suddenly nervous. "What if it's salty?"

"We'll give it to Kayden and then order a take-out."

She frowned. "You're such a meanie! You're irritating me! I'll tell Kayden how you're being a bully to me."

Jayden's face immediately turned sour. "Don't even include that madman in the conversation. I don't know him."

She was about to answer when she saw that the water in the pan was boiling. "Its boiling, its boiling."

"Take it slowly." Jayden reminded her. "You might get burned, my poor gummy bear."

"Hmph!" She glared at him then she finished their cooking and she also mixed it the ingredients and put the seasonings.

Then she excitedly set the table and Jayden sat down with her.

"I'll taste it first." He said in a teasing manner. "You might die of sourness."

She threw a sharp gaze at him. "Okay fine. I won't cuddle with you later. Go cuddle with yourself."

He just smiled and then tasted the soup they cooked.

She winced when she saw Jayden's face turn sour that it could not be painted and it seemed to be he was squirming before sticking out his tongue and rushing to drink water.

"How does it taste?" She asked.

"So sour."

She rolled her eyes at him then tasted the food.

She also frowned and stuck out her tongue because it was so sour. "Oh my God! I barely swallowed it." She shivers. "I'm calling Kayden."

"Good idea." He said then took the cellphone out of his pocket. "I'm calling for take-out. What do you want?"

"Ice cream." She grinned. "And an another ice cream."

He looked at her flatly. "Hard food, baby. With rice."

"Ahm, Roasted Chicken? With some vegetables?"

"Noted." He turned his back on her and talked someone on the cellphone.

She called Kayden to eat what she had cooked. She hope he could bear the sourness of the food, unlike the two of them.

Her lips thinned when she ended the call after Kayden told her that he was coming.

I'm sorry, Kayden. I hope your tongue survive. I'm really sorry.
