Chapter 3: The System
Percy regained consciousness and found himself in the clean med bay filled with high tech medical equipment, looking out the window, he noticed the sun was already setting. Percy felt weakness all over his body as he struggled to sit up. At this moment, Leo waltz into the med bay, heading towards Percy.
"Hey recruit, I see that you are awake now, you sure do have the guts to sleep through the entire principle's speech, hah" Leo chuckled as he looked at the screens of the medical equipment. "Hmm, seems like everything is alright, a bit too alright given what just occurred. Oh well, saves me from some tedious paperwork. Since you are alright, I will still expect you form up with the others in the parade square for superpower testing tomorrow morning at 0900 hours. Understand?"
"Yes sir…" Percy acknowledged with a slight nod.
Having said his piece, Leo immediately turn around and left the med bay, leaving Percy alone in this med bay which can hold over 20 patients.
Percy suddenly felt a pang of loneliness as he missed the presence of his older brother, Lucian. Who was always by his side and practically raised him alone after their parents passing 8 years ago due to a monster outbreak in the city. That was also when Lucian contracted the illness that robbed him of his mobility which common medical procedure could not cure. Thinking of that, Percy vows once again to become a capable soldier to earn the merits required to purchase cutting edge medicines from the Arsenal Military Force that may cure Lucian's malady.
[Ding! Updated personality database with the host's desire. Reformulating guidance protocol based on personality database and current circumstances. Processing... Processing...]
"What?! This voice… This is the voice I heard during the ceremony before passing out…" Percy pondered as he looks around the med bay, finding no one else but himself and he asked, "Uhm, Miss?"
[At your service, Sir. The new guidance protocol has been generated; would you like to activate it?]
"Who are you? Where are you?" Percy questioned as he searched around him, looking for any device that may have emitted the voice.
[I am an assistance program, more commonly known as 'System'. And I am currently residing within your soul due to the 'Another' program executed by my previous host.]
Percy's eyes widen in shock. As he became more frantic in his search for something that may explain his current situation and blurted "Wait...What? Soul? Program? Host? I am not buying it! This must be one of those pranks show right? Where's the camera?!"
[This is all very real. Allow me to show you.]
At this moment, words start to fill Percy's mind.

After witnessing what had just happened before his very eyes, Percy regained some semblance of calm as he rubs his temple and thought out loud. "Right…Whatever this is… I can just treat it as my superpower. In this world where humans can perform all sorts of supernatural feats, this is not too out of the world."
Percy took a breath and repositioned himself upright and declared, "Show me what you got, activate the protocol!"
At Percy's command, new words start to flood into his mind.

After reviewing the system's log, Percy can feel his heart pumping in excitement. As the reward for this quest is a superpower! Despite it being a grade F superpower, the lowest rating a superpower can be, having it will transform Percy entirely! As the basic and most important requirement to surpass human limits lies in possessing a superpower!
A new sense of hope for the future ignited within Percy as he attempted to stand up and begin training. However, Percy slipped and landed back on his bed, noting that his body is still feeling weak, he decided to turn in for the night and begin his training tomorrow.
For the first night in what seemed forever, Percy was finally able to sleep peacefully without the same nightmare haunting him.

The sun has set, however, not everyone in the academy is turning in for the night. Standing at the square is a man wearing a lab coat, inspecting the stairway with various equipment.
"Dr Kruger speaking, I found some interesting readings from the malfunctioning of the spiritual stairway, it is as if the spiritual energy from the stairway had gathered at one point and then disappearing into thin air." Dr Kruger noted as he rubs his chin while speaking into a voice recorder. "Over 50% of the spiritual energy in the stairway had been taken and absorbing such a large amount of spiritual energy in such a short time could have killed even the old dog, Leo!"
"This calls for further investigation, understanding this phenomenon may mark a new breakthrough in the science of spiritual energy!" Dr Kruger exclaimed excitedly as he rubs his palms together in anticipation. "Hahahaha such a breakthrough will be Nobel prize-worthy!"
