Chapter 7: Decision

Hearing the answer made Rash a lot more comfortable, now that he learned so much from Nightmare he took some time to think about his future options. He now has a chance to change his miserable life for the better, so what is the best way to do that?

The problem lies in the consequences that will happen to him if he fails to achieve this, especially that strange ability and what will happen to him if it appears to the world that he is undead if you can put it this way. Does this mean that his body will undergo many experiments to find out the reason? Or maybe they will torture him and force him to reveal how he did that?

How about choosing to be a hero instead? Well not everyone can become a hero, and the world government is training many young people to be able to deter the continuous attack from the Gallus Monsters. The question is what would happen if he told them that he was suddenly able to use abilities like many other children, would they believe him and help him develop it?

He doesn't know much about this world and what he knows is only superficial, as a boy from an orphanage he gets only a little support from the government. This is why his life revolved around his daily concerns and his struggle every day to get his food on time and not to cause many problems so that he would not be punished for that. Also, he is too young to get a job and provide for his own needs and attending classes is compulsory for children in the orphanage, and if he does not, he does not want to even think about the consequences.

Despite all this, he previously tried to find work and stop going to the school, but no matter how much he tried, no one thought twice to give him work and all refused to use him because mostly of his looks. This is why after he failed in all of this, he decided to try to study more seriously and obtain a certificate that would help him in the future, but this did not work either, he was not a very smart boy and most of the time he is subjected to harassment in school, which makes his focus always distracted, and because of that, many teachers treat him with prejudice and always think that this is due to his reckless behavior.

Rash learned from many circumstances that as long as he could not provide for his least needs by himself and always in constant dependence on the government, he would not be able to face his own problems, especially after failing to achieve any response to the ability test at the age of ten, so he is no longer qualified to get the same treatment as the other children.

Also, knowledge of special abilities is taught in schools, but lessons are only intended for children who have passed the test. As for the rest of the regular lessons, they are taken with the ordinary children so that those children do not to lose their freedom at a young age. This does not mean that ordinary children are not able to know these things, nor that all children get their abilities from the world government. Of course there are other methods, but as for Rash, he does not know much about that because there are no friends to tell him any of that.

All these events led to the formation of his personality and the amount of his knowledge of various matters, so he is so confused about what he should do, he does not know whether he should trust Nightmare or not, he does not know whether he should trust in the world government or whether he should act as usual and be indifference to any of that?

While Rash is submerged in his own thoughts as he sat on the bed, putting his hand under his chin in intense focus. Nightmare behaves indifferently, sometimes he makes funny faces or hums and acts randomly, yet he knows very well what is going on in Rash's mind at this moment and let him determine what to do himself.

A few minutes later, Rash spoke resolutely after making his final decision, "I really wanted to gain strength in the past but reality had another say and because of so many circumstances I lost that desire a long time ago. Now that I was given an opportunity to do so why not take it? But I would only do that in one case. " Rash looked at Nightmare as he said so, waiting for his response.

Nightmare stopped playing around and looked smiling at Rash, knowing exactly what he wanted to say, still acted like he didn't know, "I'm listening."

"Being strong is for myself and not for being a hero who protects people, I don't know if you want to accept that or not, but I'm not interested in what happens to other people. Since you say you have been with me all the time, this means that I don't have to explain the reason why. "

"But don't you think that by doing this, you are ignoring what the world government has provided for you throughout your life, even if the circumstances are not like others, but they still help you, right?" Nightmare responded, just to manipulate him farther.

"You are right... but I no longer care and have never said that I am a good person. I know that I will be rejected by everyone anyway and also why do you care, is the world government your boss?"

"Hahaha" Nightmare burst out laughing, "I really don't care, but to show you the situation a lot more clearly. What if I give you a mission that requires you to help someone or save another life would you refuse just because you don't like it?"

Rash paused for a while and then replied, "I don't know what will happen then, but if I see that doing it will not bring me any benefit, why should I do it?"

"Very good. If this is the case, then everything will be fine. I will not give you missions without a reward."

Rash looked at him in confusion, "Can I know what kind of missions you will give me and how will they help me be strong?"

"Because you have never played video games before, you may not understand my words well, but in short, the missions will give you experience points and various rewards when completed. Experience points increase your level and the rewards help you to be strong, which gives you the ability to do more difficult tasks in the future or be able to face powerful monsters."

"Oh... that sounds interesting, so when do we start... Rumble ... Rumble ..."

...

"Uh... my bewilderment and confusion at seeing you made me forget almost everything else. I'm really very hungry and thirsty, I want to get some food first." Rash conceded after hearing the sound that came from his stomach as he rubbed his thin belly and felt hungry, and squeezed his stomach hard.

"This is normal... You have been sleeping for an entire week." Nightmare informed him of how much time he had spent asleep.

"Damn... a whole week? Is it really a whole week since the accident? I thought it wasn't too long ago? What exactly happened after I lost consciousness?"

"Hmm... that monster got agitated and grabbed you by your hip and slammed you on the hard ground twenty-one times like a bag of meat, until your body was full of wounds and broken bones. You lost your life from the fifth hit and the monster left you after it confirmed that you were completely dead. This matter taken from him about two minutes to finish and it was at that exact time some strong people came and provided support, and they killed it. After that, you were taken to the hospital to receive treatment and you have been sleeping since that time." Nightmare briefly explained what happened and did not go into much detail.

'Poor me, even monsters have to go to that extent to kill me?'

Rash didn't find anything to say for a while upon hearing what had happened to him, everything seemed magical and unbelievable. But he didn't understand some things yet.

"If I had already died, how would no one noticed that? And also how can my wounds heal with such speed? What you described now will take many weeks or maybe months to be cured, right?" He does not know exactly how long it will take, but he suffered several fractures in the past due to his constant fights, and some of them did not completely heal even with the passage of many months. So how he didn't feel the same way as before and what he feels now is only weakness due to his level.

Nightmare knows Rash will ask him about it, so he begins to explain it to him at a leisurely pace, "As I told you earlier, your Hero's class will prevent your death so if it happens and your health points drop to zero you will die for a moment, then your body will enter a state of full recovery. The skill duration you spend restoring varies according to the damage done to your body, of course, whenever your level is high, the necessary time changes. Also, the damage caused by the Gallus Monster did not take more than three days to heal."

Finally, Rash understood what happened, although it is closer to fantasy for him, and until this moment, he could not accept the matter completely and still thought that he might be under some kind of illusion or something.

"Oh... you are right... my teeth!... my pulled teeth are back as they were in the past..." He only noticed that when Nightmare mentioned the full recovery.

Nightmare nodded, "Now, I will start teaching you about the skills and how to use them."
