Chapter 65: Phantom Meeting
Shin was leisurely sitting with his legs kicked up on one of the spare desks on the roof, waiting for the rest of the thieves to arrive.
The official reason for this meeting to take place is that they had already secured their route to Madarame's Treasure, and Shin felt that they were prepared enough to send the calling card.
Though, there was something else that Shin wanted to talk about to the rest of the thieves.
The first one to arrive, besides himself, of course, was Ann. Shiho still had her volleyball training, while Ryuji... the blonde was most likely pissed at him for his previous actions.
He didn't regret it, no, far from it. He was most amused by Ryuji's messages following his meeting with Lasse.
Certainly, he didn't think such a long row of profanities could pop up in such a short amount of time.
He was brought out of his musings by the sounds of the roof door opening. He looked up and saw Shiho, shortly followed by Ryuji.
The blonde boy averted his sight when Shin looked at him, most certainly still mad, a gesture that didn't go unnoticed to either of the girls.
"So, what're we here for today?" asked Shiho, trying to defuse the awkward situation.
"We're sending the calling card."
"Alright!" said Ryuji, finally acting like he usually does.
The girls both felt giddy and excited. It was their second mission, and the target was much more high-profile than Kamoshida. It was sure to make waves when word gets out. Madarame is heralded as the greatest artist of Japan at the moment, and with his exposition ongoing, it's going to make a much larger impact.
For once, the cat was silent in what seemed to be a crucial moment for his usual pep talk. He could feel a 'but' incoming.
"But before we do that, there's something else I want to do." said the black-haired boy.
He placed his legs back on the ground as he suddenly eyed every member of the Phantom Thieves seriously.
"What do you all think of Yusuke?"
"I'd say... he a great asset to us already, since he can duplicate skill cards." reasoned Morgana.
"I really feel for the guy. Madarame's been treating him like crap, but he can't do anything about it. It really pisses me off that a piece of shit like him got away with doing this to all of his students." said Ryuji, clenching his fists.
"Don't you think he has the right to see Madarame for who he really is?" asked Shin.
"Well, yeah, but how're we going to do that?" said Ryuji.
"You don't mean..." started Shiho, looking at Shin in shock.
"Mmhm. I intend to take Yusuke into the Metaverse and pit him against Shadow Madarame."
"Dude, the hell?!"
"When he sees how he truly is on the inside, there are 2 possible results to that set of actions. First, he becomes enraged and more likely than not awakens his Persona." said the black-haired boy, holding up one finger.
The others gulped.
"And the second...?" asked Ann.
At that, Shin got a grim look on his face.
"He breaks. Whatever mental image he had of that man crumbles and he's overcome with his emotions."
The rest just stayed quiet for a few moments, until Morgana broke the silence.
"What if neither of those happen?"
"Then that's my lack of foresight. There's only so much I can theorize with the info I have. From what I know, even someone as peculiar and sometimes serene as Yusuke is prone to ire. But in this situation, I can't know for sure."
"I think Yusuke would go through shock even if we don't tell him, when Madarame confesses. Wouldn't it be better to at least try and see if he awakens his Persona?" said Ann.
"Ann, you..." started Ryuji, gobsmacked at the other blonde's pragmatism.
"I know I'd want to know about this if I were in Yusuke's shoes." she shot back.
"I would too." nodded Shiho.
"I agree with Lady Ann."
"What do you think, Ryuji?" asked the black-haired teenager.
"I... *sigh* Alright. I guess we should at least try to show him."
"It's an unanimous decision. Very well."

An incubus is a demon in male form supposed to lie upon sleeping women in order to have sexual intercourse with them, according to a number of mythological and legendary traditions. Its female counterpart is the succubus. An incubus may pursue sexual relations with a woman in order to father a child, as in the legend of Merlin.
Religious tradition holds that repeated intercourse with an incubus or succubus may result in the deterioration of health or even death. In medieval times, the church would use incubi and succubi to explain sexual functions, which were taboo subjects.
Incubus is the first Persona of the Devil Arcana.
