Chapter 98: The power of cans
Thankfully for Makoto, most of the students had already left the school. Granted, there were a few still scattered about, but if they noticed her, they didn't say anything.
The most scary part for the girl was when Kawakami bumped into them. She had thought that whatever lucky streak they had for sneaking past everyone else had ended right there and then, but she was proven wrong when, with just a whisper from Shin, the teacher dismissed them.
Unbeknownst to Makoto, Saki was one of the few students that saw them, and she couldn't help feel somewhat annoyed.
'Here I am, waiting for him to help me with my problem and he just goes around picking up girls...' she thought, indignantly.
Ignorant of the braided girl's inner turmoil, Shin continued on. After getting outside, he noticed that many people were throwing odd looks in his direction.
"Hey, look. It's that kid..."
"He's got a girl on his back again? And it's a different girl this time."
"How lucky. He's got a good face and a strong build."
He ignored the public's commentaries, as he kept walking towards Shibuya Station. At the same time, Makoto was really wishing that no one would recognize her.
-INTERMISSION-
"And this is Mementos! Charming place, isn't it?" said Shin, spreading his hands.
Meanwhile, Makoto was having a mental breakdown from trying to understand all about the Metaverse at once.
As if to worsen the poor girl's condition, the Reaper suddenly decided to appear at that very moment, carrying his huge bag, as it has became customary as of late.
"And this is the Reaper. Reaper, this is Makoto. Say hello." said Shin.
The Reaper simply waved his free arm, which held onto one of his guns, at Makoto. The girl nodded her head, absentmindedly acknowledging him.
"Reeeaaaapeeeeer!" came a shout from one tunnel.
Immediately afterwards, a red blur rushed towards the Reaper, but the shadow swiftly dodged out of the way.
"Guh!" exclaimed the red blur, as it slammed headfirst into a wall.
It was now clear that the red blur was in fact Sho. Shin didn't know why would Sho jump on the Reaper like that, but one could assume the two had bonded during their time together in Mementos.
"The red-headed moron who just got intimately close with the wall is Sho." said Shin, pointing at said man.
"Can it, Shin. The Reaper is just shy in front of strangers." said Sho, pulling himself out of the indent he made in the wall.
At that comment, the Reaper pointed his gun at Sho threateningly.
"C'mon. I can see that you don't mean anything by that." Sho shrugged the Reaper off.
However, the shadow did not lower his gun like Sho thought he would. Instead, he shot a dangerously close shot that went right between Sho's legs. The red-head blanked out a bit, before slowly putting his hand on his crotch area and checking to see if everything was there.
"Hey, that wasn't funny..." he murmured.
Shin gave the Reaper a thumbs up.
"Good going there, Reaper."
The Reaper turned to look at Shin. Neither of them said anything for a few more moments, as each simply stared at the other.
"Do you need anything?" finally asked Shin, breaking the silence.
"Do you have any more can juice?" asked the Reaper.
Shin looked at the shadow for a moment, somewhat confused. But then it clicked in his mind, and he took out a soda can from... somewhere... which he passed to the Reaper.
"Thank you." he said, quietly.
"It's okay, pal. Feel free to ask whenever." replied the black-haired teen.
The Reaper nodded, and he sat down near Shin, slowly drinking from the can.
"So, do you have any more questions?" asked Shin, as he turned his attention to Makoto, who for all this time had been quiet.
"Yes."
"Good. So do we. I think this is enough for today. Let's get you back home, shall we? Your sis might get worried otherwise."
