Chapter 2: 1: You Can't Escape

Mayi was at a loss the whole morning. She just got back from work how could this happen already? She kept on spacing out and her coworkers are worried.

"Mayi! Mayi!" Shane deliberately tugged Mayi's hair.

"Huh? What?" Mayi asked as she looked at the people in the room.

"Are you not going to pick up your phone. It's been vibrating since the first period," they told her as she looked blankly at the screen of her phone.

Judging by her look they knew she wasn't going to pick it up. Rie, picked up her phone instead and put it on speaker.

"Mayi's phone," Rie said as they looked at her dumbfounded.

[Ah, Rie. It's me Jun. Is Mayi there?]

"She is, but she is busy as of the moment, you know she just returned from a long break" Rie responded casually. The rest of the department tried not to make a sound.

[Can you tell her that I need to talk to her?]

"Sure!" Rie replied and hung up. She didn't give Jun the chance to reply.

Rie is like a mother to Mayi. She took care of Mayi and made her improve her skills. She was there when Mayi fell down and she was there to help her get up. Rie saw how Mayi struggled to get herself out of the shithole she fell into.

"So, do you wanna talk to him?" Rie asked straightforwardly.

"I don't have anything to say to him. Why bother?" Mayi said as she returned to her work. In fact, she has a lot of questions and things she wanted to say, but she doesn't have the courage to do so.

"Well, he has something to say to you. Are you not going to give him a chance?" Shane asked as he brushed Mayi's hair.

"Sis, the last time that happened I almost lost my job," Mayi said as she remembered the events of that day.

"Oh well. You know, at least you learned from that." Cecil said as she patted Mayi's shoulder.

Mayi's Liberal Arts Family was small, messy, noisy but happy. They were united and they had each other's backs. She was the youngest so they treated her as their baby girl, they would tease her that her IQ is high but her EQ is low. There was some truth in it but she just kinda ignores it.

Later that afternoon...

"Mayi! You have to conduct the orientation for the Korean group!" Vice President's secretary told Mayi as she entered the office.

"Me? Why me? Isn't that the manager's job?" she asked puzzled.

"Vice President suggested that you help Manager Jun since you already know each other." the secretary said as she smiled. "Orientation starts in 30 minutes."

Of course, aside from Rie, Cecil and Shane, the Vice President knows some details of what happened last year.

It's like the entire universe conspired against her so that she could meet Jun. It made her feel uneasy.

"Unbelievable!" she muttered as she gave a heavy sigh.

"You don't have a choice darling," Cecil said as she entered the office as well. "It seems Manager Jun is even asking that you become his assistant as well."

Mayi's eyes grew larger as she heard the news from her second mom.

"You won't allow that right? " she asked as her brows furrowed.

"Of course not! You got into so much trouble last time you got involved with him." she said as she hugged Mayi. "But for the orientation, I can't help with that. It came straight from above."

Frustrated with what she heard she just let out a sigh and picked up some orientation materials. "Wish me luck." she said as she went to the gymnasium.

2:30 pm Student Orientation Korean Group

The students were sitting on the benches and were waiting for the orientation to start. Mayi was already in front of them looking at the students. She grunted as she saw Jun standing on the side. He wasn't moving not talking. He was just... looking.

"Okay, good afternoon students!" Mayi said as she tried to get their attention. It seemed not to work though, as the students were focused on getting the attention of the Korean Idol Trainees who are seated at the back.

Mayi was not a patient person. She hated waiting and she hates it more when she does the orientation. Given that she's in a weird situation with the Manager, she can't help but get annoyed.

"Yah! Nae mal jom deurobwa!" the student's suddenly perked up as she spoke in a very deep scary voice. Jun suddenly looked at her. From her peripheral view, Mayi saw him smile.

"Thank you very much! I want to welcome all of you to Hyatt Academy! This orientation will cover the rules and regulations of the Academy. Please feel free to ask anything." Mayi said as she started handing out copies of the orientation to the students.

"Nuna! Dokssiniya?" A Korean guy asked her. Shocked with the question she just looked at him. She then stared at the guy's name tag and looked back at him.

"Mian, na namjachinguga isso," Mayi said as she bowed to her head to the guy.

The orientation started as soon as she finished distributing the orientation copies to the students. She discussed the rules and regulations of the Academy and the students listened. They were amazed at how she translated the rules in Korean to those students who had difficulty understanding them.

"Do you have any questions?" Mayi asked as she looked at the students.

"Miss Mayi! I have a question. Uhm, Manager Jun. You two, gwaenchana?" a girl with a somewhat sophisticated look asked. The students present looked at the two. Jun looked at Mayi but Mayi's face was calm. She didn't show any emotion.

"Neh." she answered casually. It was however felt by the students, there was a palpable distance between the two.

It was obvious this morning that one was tensed, and the other was carefree. It was an awkward sight but for Mayi's friends, it was amusing. They know most of the story as they were the witness of the roller coaster ride Mayi got into.

They begin to wonder, will Mayi survive this year with Jun around? Will she be able to get through this time? She barely survived last time...

After the orientation, Mayi turned to go back to the office.

"Mayi! Wait!" Jun said as he approached Mayi's side. Mayi didn't slow down nor stop. She just kept on walking.

"Manager Jun. Do you need anything?" Mayi asked as casual as possible.

"We're okay right?" he asked. Mayi stopped in her tracks and looked at Jun.

"I think you know the answer to your question. Why do you have to ask me?" Mayi replied as she tried to deflect the question.

"I want to hear it from you." He replied, his face showed a slight disappointment.

"Yes, we're okay," Mayi replied and continued to walk. She left Jun standing in the hallway. She knew in her heart it was not okay. How could she be okay?

"I missed you..." Jun whispered as she watched Mayi walk far in the distance
