Chapter 4: 01 04 - Farmer knight’s training
As I got ready to end the work day, my co-worker, Han Kyun walked in looking just as tired as me.
"Oh hyung- hello-"
I looked at him confused and pretty concerned. I was beginning to change in the back room on my locker as he was changing too.
"What happened to you? Exams?"
I asked as he just nodded.
"Yeah, but I ended up playing L.O and so I had to stay up longer to study properly.."
He mumbled with a tired yawn as he then turned around and looked at me.
"Also didnt you say we'd play together? Later when I get home I'll text you."
He spoke before bowing.
"Have a good night."
He looked so tired, I felt bad for the kid, I remember my highschool days too, oh god was it stressful. I grabbed my stuff and walked out, but first went to the vending machine just outside of the convenient store then bought a canned coffee, going inside and placed it in the counter for the other guy.
"You should probably rest first when you get home but just text me when you want to play."
I give him a playful thumbs up before walking out with a wave. I headed home, almost forgetting I had moved to a new house now.
Oh god it was painful, the hill was just annoying. I love as basically panting like a dog once I reached the building. The tiredness from work then walking was a horrible mix. I stood leaning against the gate to take a moment to breath as I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Hey uh- can you move?"
A man's voice from behind came as I looked back to see a man around my height with blonde hair looking at me confused.
"Oh- sorry sorry!"
I moved to the side to let him through before I followed behind me. He was carrying grocery bags.
"You're probably the new guy right?.. uh, Lee Gihyuk right? At least that's what I think Lisa said."
He spoke before opening the door, I just followed along behind him.
"Yeah you're right, nice to meet you."
We stood at the door way as he turned around and nodded.
"Name's Jonathan, I've been here for half a year as a international student."
It was obvious I won't lie, he did have that American accent.
"Your Korean is really good though, so that's amazing."
I laugh a little before heading up the stairs.
"Well nice to meet you, see you around."
I give him a little wave as he gave a wave back and I head into my bedroom with a small yawn.
I can't let the tiredness get me yet though, I grab some clothes and head of to the washroom, having some peace as I begin to think what to do in game. Old man did say that I would be training once I'm back, which is a little bit exciting.
I began to hum as I wash my hair happily. This was my first time experiencing something like this. Wait no I should be focusing on getting money. I open my eyes determined as I slapped my face before screaming from the soap that went into my eyes.
"Argh! God I'm so- o w- stupid."
I whine as I hurry to finish washing up and get to gaming. Though after my shower I quickly ran downstairs to grab noddle cups. Brought one upstairs and ate it in my room.
I decided I should text my mom how she's doing while I ate.

Message: hey mom, how have you been? Sorry I haven't been visiting you much, most of my shifts end at night and visiting hours are over by then. On the weekends though I'll try to come visit, I promise! I hope you're eating all your food, I love you.

I wait for a moment, and not long do I get a reply back from her.

Message: don't over work yourself my son! I'm glad you still take time to text me though haha. Can't wait for you to visit, and don't worry your momma's strong, you better take care of yourself or I'm gonna smack you! I love you too dear :)

I couldn't help but let out a little laugh, even though she's in pain from her illness, she still tries her best to be strong and try not to burden me, I'm happy she stayed for me.
Now standing in front of the gaming gear. I took a deep breath.
"Alright, day 2 of L.O, let's go."
It was still a weird feeling to enter the game but I figured I'd eventually get used to it. I spawned where I left myself, in the farmer's house. I looked around the first floor but didn't see him, so I walked out and there he was.
"Old man! I'm here!"
I raised my hand and waved at the man in the field as he gestured for me to go over there. So I did, and once I did he suddenly threw me the hoe and let out a groan.
"Good timing finish it up for me son, I'll teach you how to use that sword after."
I stood there in shock before looking at him and pointed the tool at the man.
"What do you mean!? I already worked a lot yesterday!"
I shouted before he suddenly kicked my knee making me crouch down with a whine.
"Shut your trap kid! It's good for you stamina anyways! I'm an old man, consider doing farming work everyday part of yer training."
After he spoke those words, he turned around and left leaving me speechless on the ground.
"God.. damn it.."
I grumble before standing up and getting to work, it was true that it would help with stamina and his strength, in game anyways, but it was a hassle.
A few hours passed and I finished the field, finally. I tiredly walked back to the house, slamming the door open as the man just sat there drinking tea calmly.
"oh good job, thanks for finishing."
He hummed as he took a sip and I just stared before angrily walking over and sat down as well. Taking a cup to drink as well.
"Finish quickly, we still got your sword training, if doing that got you tired boy, can you even handle the training?"
The old man scoffed before standing up and walking out.
"why you..."
I felt like I was about to burst in anger, but my ego said no, my ego was too big for me to just give in to the obvious trap. I stood up and walked out huffing.
"I'm more than ready, don't under estimate me!"
The man seemed pleased with my reaction, before throwing a wooden sword at me, he was holding his own as he did the hand gesture telling me to come at him.
"Give me all you got."
At first I was questioning it, I didn't want to hurt the old man, but the smirk was ticking me off. I took a deep breath, then lunged at him with a shout, but in a flash, I was on the ground with a mark from the sword as I laid there in surprise.
"ohohoho, good good, but you still got lots to learn for sure. Stand up boy!"
How could an old man give such a powerful blow? I thought to myself, still in shock before finally standing up and going into a ready position.
"I'll be in your care!"
I shouted as he laughed before coming at me.
After the practice that took over 3 hours, my whole body ached from getting hit by the sword. Each time I was hit, he would say what was wrong, give me minimum hints, and made me figure it out myself. It was painful, but at the same time I was also understanding it more and more. Even though it was painful, I felt productive, I felt like I was having fun after all these years of just trying to do well and work to keep my mother well.
Panting heavily I looked up at the farmer, rubbing my side.
"God.. are we.. done..?"
I asked as a window popped up in front of me.

I stared at it in horror, before looking up at the man that grinned evilly at me.
"We're not done, come back tomorrow to continue, if you have time go downtown and buy some seeds."
I groaned still aching in pain before I walked away with a tired face.
"God, is this even going to be worth it? I haven't even explored the starter town that much."
Suddenly, I realized the time, my junior, Han Kyun, was going to go off from work. I should text him and tell him to add me.
I swiped in the air and window popped up as I then logged out from the game. I stretched for a moment before fully getting out and grabbing my phone.

Message: Did you finish work? Let's meet in game, my username is Lhyuk.
.
Not even a few minutes passed by and he replied already.

Message: wow your username is boring- anyways my username is Dark K, I'll text you in game.
.
I felt slightly hurt from that little comment- but at least my username isn't something edgy. I laughed to myself before putting my phone down, grabbing a little snack before finally entering the game once more.
A notification came up and there was a friend request. I accepted it, then there another window pop up asking to call. I answered obviously.
"Hyung, what took you so long?"
It was obviously Kyun.
"Sorry I went to get food."
I answered with a little laugh.
"Oh okay, well anyways where are you? Are you still in Valdero? We'll probably you just started, what town are you in?"
I blinked slightly surprised, the kid was more up going and open when he talked in game.
"Ah well, I'm in Lenglis."
There was silence first before a shocked voice of the other male.
"Why are you still in the starter town??"
"Well- I thought maybe I'd do some little quest for now you know."
I mumbled embarrassed as I heard a little sigh.
"Most people would have left right away, well anyways I'll get there soon so wait."
That's exactly what I did, I waited patiently as he ended the call and headed over.
After a bit, I saw a pop up of a message from Dark K telling me to meet at the little cafe in the town. I headed over, looking around to find a short dark haired boy, and there sitting by the window I saw him.
"There you are, didn't you see me come in?"
He looked up at me confused before an elvish looking man came behind me and smacked me in the head.
"That's not me hyung."
I looked behind to see a elf with long dark hair, it looked like Lee Kyun but slightly older. I blinked slightly confused.
"That's- you?"
I asked confused on how he looked so different as we walked to a different table.
"You know you can change how you look in this game right? Or did you, skip the introduction?"
I looked down as he just stared at me before letting out a small wheeze.
"Well it's fine it's not important, I'm more concerned on why you haven't left the starter town yet."
He asked as I looked up at him, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Well basically, I started a quest and it not finished, I don't want to leave it since it seems pretty important."
I spoke as he asked me to do a quest show, and I did. He saw the quest of The Old Knight's legacy.
"Knight's Legacy?? That's actually a pretty good quest, how's you find it!?"
He suddenly moved in close as I looked away with a playful grin.
"I'm not telling you, you were making fun of me."
I chuckled as he backed down with a sigh. Then I pulled out the sword I was given, a typical knights sword but with some gold fancy lining and such.
"Holy.."
Was the only word that came out of kyun's mouth.
"I know, it was after the first quest, I haven't learned how to do it yet."
I spoke waiting for the other boy to reply, but he just sat there. Before finally speaking.
"Sorry hyung, let's meet up tomorrow, my mom's getting mad at me! See ya!"
He waved goodbye before logging off and I just sat there confused. Soon I stood up with a small smile. to be able to play with a friend, it was quiet nice.
It was still a bit early for me to sleep so I decided to walk around. I headed towards the farm again, but this time, I noticed a path at the side. It was overgrown but if you looked close enough, the path had smaller grass than the ones beside it. I was curious and bored, it was a game anyways, I wouldn't be in any danger.
I headed into the path, pushing through the grass and walking deeper into the woods. At first it began to darken as the trees hovered above me and covered the light, but then it began to get lighter again.
There was an opening, where a old run down home was there. There was no way it could have been missed right? It only took around 10 mins to reach it, but once I looked back, the path to the farm was nowhere to be seen.
I was still curious do I continued to walk, standing in front of the door, before slowly opening the door of the old home.
