Chapter 15: Chapter 15

"Fuck," he yelled, diving off his bed and onto the carpet as a lamp soared over his head shattering against the wall. He could feel the remains of the lamp pelt against his back as they rained down around him. "Sandy listen," he said, carefully standing up as he avoided the pieces of glass littering his carpet. "Listen to what George, another lie?" Sandy screeched as she ran across the bedroom to another lamp. She yanked the lamp towards her, ripping the electric cord out of the wall socket. "Everyone told me not to trust you, 'once a cheater always a cheater' they said," Sandy shifted the lamp into her dominant hand as she lugged it across the room towards her soon to be ex-boyfriend. "What are you talking about," he asked, ducking his head as the lamp crashed into the wall above him. "Tell me your passcode George," Sandy demanded as she pulled his cell phone out of the pockets of her ripped jeans. "If you have nothing to hide, let me look through your texts," Sandy stated, looking into the eyes of someone she once loved. "Sandy, baby, it was just a one time thing," George lied, knowing that the texts in his phone would prove he was having an affair much longer than he said. "I knew it you fucking dick," she screamed, chucking the phone in her hand at her now ex-boyfriend. Tears streamed down her face as she walked out of the bedroom as George's pleas and false apologies washed over her. Her hand reached out twisting the doorknob as she stepped out of his house onto the cold, dark, and foggy streets of Gotham.

She hated crying, she hated how it blurred her vision, but she absolutely hated the way her emotions overwrote logic when she was like this. Her feet stomped against the sidewalk, each step helped release her pent up emotions. The echo of her footsteps bounced off the fog alerting everyone of her pain. The cold fog enveloped her body, its light touch slowly sinking into the fabric she wore. Her arms wrapped around her chest, trying to stave off the cold damp fog from its successful invasion. "Nearly there," Sandy muttered to herself, envisioning a nice long cry while soaking in the steaming hot water in her bath. Sandy heard a set of footsteps behind her, far enough away that she didn't need to turn around. Soon the footsteps began melding into her own rhythmic steps as they soon became one in the same. A childish melody started to play behind her, filling the foggy street.

"The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout," Sandy heard the child's voice being played as she whipped her head around trying to spot who was playing the nursery rhyme. "Down came the rain and washed the spider out," the voice continued as Sandy started to sprint away, scurrying back to her home as fast as she could. "Out came the sun and dried up all the rain," She could hear the song getting louder, closer, she couldn't run any faster. "And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again," the voice sang right behind her. Sandy tried to scream as a hand slammed against her mouth muting her voice. Sandy tried to shove the hand away from her mouth, her instincts demanding nothing less. Another hand grabbed her throat squeezing it shut. Her eyes began to bulge, her heart slamming against her chest demanding oxygen. She thrashed her body, twisting it, trying to untie herself from the person's hold, he just wouldn't let go. The childish song started to replay itself, "The itsy bitsy spider," was the last she heard as her vision dimmed and she lost consciousness.

Sandy sluggishly opened her eyes, her vision only offered blurry outlines and dark shapes. She tried to rub her eyes, but as her arms tried to move she could feel resistance against her movement. She peered down and even in her blurry vision, she could make out her arms squirming, struggling to break free from the restraints binding them to the chair's armrest. Her heart began to beat quicker as her mind started to catch up to what her subconscious is currently screaming. Sandy could feel her carotid artery beat against the side of her neck as each pulse came quicker than the last. As blood pumped through her body, her vision began to clear up as she continued to thrash her arms trying to break them free. "Help," She screamed as the only noise that left her mouth was a gurgling noise. She could taste the dirty rag that was shoved in her mouth, muffling her voice. Sandy looked back to her arms as they began to have a little more movement. The duck tape that was used to bind her arms began to stretch, her eyes lit up with hope.

Clapping was heard in the background, "welcome back to the land of the living, even if your stay here will be cut short," Victor Zsasz vowed to her. He watched her back still as she realized that she wasn't alone, her head twisted trying to look back and see who was speaking. "No need to hurt that pretty little neck of yours," Victor reassured her as he walked around the chair to face her. He stood in front of her while he bent down so their eyes were level with each other, "do you know how to catch a spider," he asked? Sandy's mouth gurgled an indecipherable response. "You know when I was younger I had a terrible tooth problem. So I had to go to the dentist like a good little boy," Victor babbled as he stood up and stared upwards into the dark ceiling of the empty warehouse they were in. "I sat in that dentist chair with nothing to do but look out the window into some branches of a tree," Victor remarked during which he lowered his eyesight back to Sandy's scared face. "I didn't even see it at first, the spider's web and when I did I thought it was abandoned like all the other webs you see. But I had nothing to do while that dentist dug around in my mouth so I watched anyway. A few minutes later a fly flew right into the web, it twisted and turned trying to free itself, I could practically hear the boring little housefly's screams through the window. And wouldn't you know, a spider appeared on the outer rings of the web. With each step he moved closer to the fly, the fly struggled harder to free itself. Can you imagine being that fly?" Victor asked with a slight smile on his face and a slow deep chuckle. "So you see, to catch a spider," he whispered to her bringing his hand up to her face, gently caressing her wet tear stained cheek. "I need you, my boring little housefly."
