Chapter 7: False Alarm?

"Are you all forgetting about Icy?" asked Steve.

"That's right! Icy!" shouted Charlene. She quickly turned to look at Icy. Kimberley and Hazel both jumped to their feet and turned to look at the place Icy was fighting and prepared to tell their monsters to help Icy. They were stunned at what they saw. Icy, who had been fighting with the other Rainbow Venom Spider on close terms in the beginning, was now dragging the corpse of the spider towards them. She did not seem to be injured in any way, and her clothes made it look like she was just taking a leisure walk and had not been fighting a Rainbow Venom Spider.

The girls wondered what they had all missed. Kimberley, Hazel, and Charlotte had been fighting the Rainbow Venom Spider the whole time, so they did not pay any attention to Icy's battle. Although Locke and Charlotte had been watching Icy's battle some of the time, there wasn't really anything going on and they were too focused on Charlene's battle in the last 30 seconds.

Actually, the girls hadn't really missed much. Most of the time, Icy was just pretending to fight and didn't really do much. However, the moment the girls had defeated the Rainbow Venom Spider, she immediately punched down on the spider's head with her hand with the strength of a level 10 silver quality 1 star monster, breaking the spider's exoskeleton and killing it immediately.

"The other group of monsters are here," said Steve, turning to the left. The girls turned around and looked in his direction. There were three monsters, and they looked like lions. Two of the lions were about 6 feet long, average for a lion. The one in the middle, however, was about 10 feet long.

"Flame Lion King! It should not be here!" exclaimed Doven. "Quick! Activate the GPS function on the wristband and run! This Flame Lion King is dark gold quality and the Flame Lions are gold quality!" Doven summoned took out 3 monster cards from his pocket and summoned out his monsters. They were a Phantom Butterfly, a Frost Wyrm Ant, and a Flame Wyrm Ant. Elden summoned out his own monsters to fight. A 6 Legged Boar, White Python, and a Boxer Panda.

The girls all recalled their own monsters and ran towards the direction f the camp. Steve ran with them but didn't recall Icy. After Steve, was sure that Doven and Elden couldn't see him, he stopped running. The girls stopped and looked at him. Steve told the girls to go back first and told them he needed to stay here so the others would be able to know where Doven and Elden were. The girls looked at each other, nodded, and continued running. They realized that this was not the time to argue. Of course, Steve had never pressed the button on his wristband, but the girls were not going to realize that until after a long time.

When they were out of sight, Steve jumped onto the top of a tree, with Icy right next to him. He stood on the branch, hidden by the leaves and branches, watching Elden and Doven fight the Flame Lion King. However, the Flame Lions who were with the Flame Lion King ran past Doven and Elden and went in the direction of the girl. Doven tried to stopped the Flame Lions, but the Flame Lion King stopped him. Although his and Elden's monsters outnumber the lions, their monsters were only silver and gold quality, with four of the monsters silver quality and two of them gold, barely able to fight the Flame Lion King on equal terms. Doven could only hoped that Steve had press the button and that help would arrive in time before the students got killed.

Of course, how could Doven know that there was no need to worry about the Flame Lions killing the students? As soon as the Flame Lions were out of sight range for Doven and Elden and their monsters, Steve told Icy to deal with the Flame Lions. Icy jumped down from the trees and ran to the front of the Flame Lions and intercepted them. Seeing that there was a prey who was just standing in front of them, the Flame Lions pounced on Icy. Before they could reach Icy, however, Icy raised her right hand and pointed her index finger at the lions.

"Freeze," Icy said softly. The Flame Lions were suddenly enveloped in ice and dropped down to the ground while they were in midair. Upon hitting the ground, however, the ice didn't shatter. Faint, cold white mist was coming out of the ice and rising up into the sky. Icy then thawed the ice. The lions were in perfect condition, and there wasn't a single scratch or dent on their bodies. However, the lions were just laying there, no longer moving or breathing- they had been killed the moment they had been frozen by the ice.

Icy grabbed the corpses of the Flame Lions and walked over to the tree that Steve was on. Steve jumped down from the tree. He looked at the bodies and decided to sell them since they were too high quality for the girls to use and they were too low quality for him.

<Hey, system, is a monster corpse worth more or is a monster card worth more?>

[It depends on the quality of the monster and how damaged the body is. For monster that are epic quality and above, monster cards are worth more. For monsters that are dark gold quality and below, their bodies are typically worth more as long as the bodies are intact. The slightest damage to a monster body will cause it to be worth less than a monster card.]

<Well, then I'll sell these monster bodies, then.> Steve pull out the storage chain and put the lions' bodies inside it.

<I'll need to find some way to explain why I didn't activate the GPS function.> Then, an idea hit him.

"Icy, let's go," said Steve. He ran towards the direction where Doven and Elden were fighting, and Icy followed behind him.

Doven and Elden were surprised to see Steve running towards them.

"Steve! Did you bring help!?" asked Doven.

"I didn't!" Steve shouted back. "We don't need any!"

Doven was confused. Why would Steve come back if he didn't bring help with him?

"Icy, go!" said Steve. Icy, who was running behind Steve, suddenly sped up and dashed in front of Doven and Elden. Doven and Elden were stunned to see Icy in front of them.

"Steve!" yelled Elden. "Tell your monster to get back! It's dange-" Before Elden could finish his sentence, he saw something that shocked him out of his mind. Icy slapped the Flame Lion King on his face, flicking him away. The Flame Lion King lay there on the ground without moving. It had been killed. Doven and Elden dropped their jaws in shock. They looked at Icy. Then at the Flame Lion King. Then at Icy. Then at the lion again. However, they weren't able to comprehend what just happened.

Doven was the first to recover. He looked at Steve, who was now beside them. "How strong is your monster?"

Steve looked at him and answered with a serious tone. "I don't know."

Doven was speechless, but he didn't pursue the topic. After all, everyone had a few secrets.

"I need you to do something," said Steve.

"What is it?" asked Doven.

"I need you to tell the girls that you guys were just making a false alarm and had told me yesterday to not activate the GPS function if you say quick before telling me to activate the GPS function," said Steve.

"Why?" asked Elden.

"Everyone has their own secrets, and I have mine," said Steve.

----------

"Brother! Are you alright?" asked Charlene when she saw Steve coming out of the forest.

"I'm fine," said Steve.

"Where's the Flame Lion King and the Flame Lions?" asked Charlene.

"They got killed by Doven and Elden," said Steve.

"But wasn't the Flame Lion King dark gold quality?" asked Charlene.

"Ask them," said Steve.

Charlene and the girls looked at Doven and Elden, waiting for an explanation.

Doven decided to speak. "Actually, the Flame Lion King was only gold quality. The Flame Lions were only silver quality. We wanted to test your decisiveness in a real dangerous situation, so we decided create a false alarm and pretend we were in trouble. Of course, we told Steve the yesterday night when all of you were sleeping that if we said quick before telling him to press the button on the wristband, then it was just a false alarm and he was not supposed to press the button."

"So in the end, it was just a false alarm?" asked Kimberley.

"Yep," said Doven.

"Brother, you're mean," said Charlotte.

"What!? What does this have to do with me?" asked Steve, pointing to himself.

"Why didn't you tell us that everything was just a false alarm? You could of at least told me or Charlene," said Charlotte. "How could you make us so worried?"

"I- I... It wasn't my fault! It was Doven and Elden! They threatened me and forbid me from saying anything before it was over! It was their fault!" said Steve. He decided to shamelessly put the blame on Doven and Elden.

"Really?" asked Charlotte with a suspicious tone.

"Yes, we did threaten him," said Doven. He was speechless at how shameless Steve was. Threaten him? Who was he kidding? Come on, he and Elden had to use all of their monster barely be a match for the Flame Lion King, while Steve's monster easily killed the same Flame Lion King with a single slap. But in the end, he decided to just take the blame and go along with whatever Steve said due to his monster's strength.
