Chapter 2: Chapter 2

I take to the air again and after a few hours, I begin to feel like I'm being followed. Convincing myself that it was nothing as there is no way any hybrids could be following and humans couldn't fly, I keep going. A couple of minutes later, I still have the feeling, so I quickly spin around to catch whoever was following me but there was no one there. Spooked, I start to fly faster hoping to lose them but every time I look back there is nothing there. Even though I know I think I'm being followed, after an hour I come to the conclusion that I must be imagining it out of fear of being caught. Just to make sure of it I hover in the air facing where I had come from and peer into the bushes to see if I could see anything. Just as I am about to turn around, assured that there is after all nothing following me, I see movement in the bushes and freeze.

In seconds I spin around and am flying as fast as I can through the trees not caring what direction I am going and just focusing on losing my pursuer. Whatever was following me has by now long given up on trying to stay quiet and was chasing me loudly through the bushes. Panic hammered through me as I fly, as I am flying for my life, not even checking behind me to see how far behind my chaser is; all I care about now is losing him, even if I end up flying at this speed an hour after it stops chasing me.

I dive through the bushes with branches scratching at my face, terrified that the thing might catch up to me and capture me. My wings are already exhausted and I am worried that if I don't lose my pursuer soon I would have to land and then I would be done for. The need to check how far behind the thing is overpowered my wish to keep facing forward, so taking my chances I take a quick glance behind me.

I can see that I am definitely gaining distance from my pursuer but I am not willing to slow down as it would just give it more of a chance to catch me. Hoping to lose it for good I dive towards the ground and as I hoped my pursuer followed me. As soon as I am as close as I can get to the ground I abruptly pull up, turn around and hide in a tree. Praying that it wouldn't see me I hold my breath and watch for my pursuer to come out of the trees.

As soon as I see who was following me I gasp but I quickly cover my mouth before any noise can escape. There flying in front of me is another hybrid. I nearly laughed when I figured out that it was a rabbit-bird cross. I had been running for my life from a bunny, something I eat nearly every day. But the question is why is it chasing me? I dismiss the question as right now all I need to focus on is finding and saving Zara and the other hybrids. After sitting in the tree for a while, long after the hybrid had flown away I decide it is finally time to keep flying.
