Chapter 2: Chapter 1

You are...my fire

Antony was dreading school. He stared at the school's entrance, his body refusing to move.  Then he saw her, beautiful as always, in her clean out of laundry clothes. People flocked around her, talking faster than he could read their lips. He was in a trance just staring at her replying them all with a smile.

"Ant...you should talk to her man". A hand was placed on his shoulder jerking him back to reality.

"Uhn what?" Anthony replies his friend Carter dumbly. Carter rolled his eyes and Ariel giggled beside him. They were an odd pair. Carter was the rich, husky American dream boy, Ariel on the other hand was polar opposite. Extreme gothic.

"Anthony, you should talk to her" Ariel repeats her boyfriend's words.

"I would... eventually" Anthony replies calmly. He would when he finds the strength to, if he finds the strength to. Ariel rolled her eyes and stared at Carter, they both knew their dumb friend wouldn't, unless given a push. Ariel smirked, something she always does whenever she had a plan cooking in her head. She whispered to her boyfriend some words, hopefully Anthony wouldn't catch up their plan. Fortunately, he didn't, he was busy looking at Quinn in a daze.

"Ant...are you free this evening?"

Quinn felt like crawling her eyes out. People everywhere asking her about the nature of her illness and if she couldn't just get a surgery to fix it up, it was frustrating, she didn't know how to answer them, heck she didn't even know much about her illness. If they were all interested about it they should catch one of her parents whenever they came to pick her up.

She let out an awkward laugh as someone says "Jesus can heal you".

"I rather let him heal younger kids" she replies softly. Call her selfish but she just wanted to die in peace and stop the pain, even if she got heal by some worth of miracle she'd still be walking on eggshells. She glanced up and caught sight of someone staring at her at a distance. A boy, Anthony. Who doesn't know Anthony Knight. Tall, broad with muscles and sleeve tattoos and don't forget the piercings. She remembers quietly scolding him in the hallway about his extreme piercings and rings, taking them off him and telling him to come for them after school. He stood frozen, just staring at her as she took off his piercings and rings, a totally opposite behaviour to his normal 'fuck off' attitude. He didn't come the accessories though and she unconsciously held onto them, kept in a locker together with the other things he had sneakily left on her desk or by her locker. Oh she knew he was the one and she waits for every little trinket he leaves for her. She gave him a smile but he didn't return it, he walked away with his two friends by his side. Okay....

****

"Slow poke" Anthony snickered at Carter.

"Not everyone can be as good as you are Ant, ever considered taking basketball as a career?" Carter panted behind Anthony.

" Nah...its more for fun" he tossed the ball and he enters the net. He cheered and Carter glared at him. Although Carter as one of the best basketball players in the school, Anthony has always been better than any of them and the most annoying thing is that he would never join the team, always claiming it to be more of a means of passing time than a hobby.

"I think the school would appreciate your skills". Anthony froze, he knew that voice, he could recognise it anywhere even in his dreams.

"Hey Quinn" Carter greeted. She was there, a few steps behind him but he couldn't turn around, no not now, he needed some seconds to gather his thoughts.

"Hey..." Quinn trailed off. She didn't know why but Ariel Winters wanted her here, now she could see why. Watching Anthony play was something most people don't get the privilege to see. He was good, but why wasn't he turning back, as always he froze at her presence. She took advantage of it though, her eyes trailed his body. The basketball shorts and fitted tank top exposed his muscles and tattoo, she could see most of the tattoos and she was blown away. Most of his tanned arms were covered and she could see a few on his back, well the exposed part of it. Suddenly he turned, facing her, his brown eyes looking into her grey ones.

"Uh...you really should join the basketball team". Those were the words her brain could cook up. He bit his lips lost for words. Quinn was here. Her brown skin glowed under the sun, her black coily hair was in a bun, just like always. He oftens dream of how it would feel running his fingers in her hair. He had tried touching mannequins with afro textured hair but he knew hers would feel better.

"You...think so" he replies. He could hear Carter and Ariel snicker at the background.

" Yeah...you are like the best basketball player I've seen" Quinn replies, handing him the towel Ariel had given her. Everything became clearer now. Ariel wanted her to meet Anthony and hand him the towel. But the boy in person froze up like he always did whenever she was close by.

"I could talk to the coach on your behalf, he would definitely let you in even though it isn't time for trials" Quinn offers, standing closer to him

"Ok...I'll give it a try" he replies softly.

"I thought you didn't want to play for a team" Carter mocks. Anthony glared at his friends. Ariel rolls her eyes as she wraps her arms around her boyfriend with difficulty. The height difference between them was cute and at the same time frustrating.

"Why don't you take me home baby" she said giving a sly smile

"Your place or mine" Carter hums as Ariel giggles.

   "Yours papi"

Quinn and Anthony felt lost out staring at the couple as they giggled and kissed slightly.

"See you guys tomorrow, Ant...you should give the lady a ride back home" Carter says walking away with his girlfriend in his arms

  "Bye bye" Ariel giggles.

Anthony rolls his eyes at his walking friends.

"You ready" he asks Quinn softly.

She felts like he didn't want to be close to her. Hell he freezes up and frowns anytime she was close.

"I could catch a bus if you aren't comfortable" she offers quietly

"Definitely not" he says picking up his bag. He wanted to be close to her but his freaking brains always shuts down anytime he sees that caramel skin, and then it comes alive with only one thought. ...Eat her...
