Chapter 3: 3
We all turned around, facing the door as soon as we heard the knock, I quickly hid Jenna and Florence behind the curtains, then kept my gowns back in the wardrobe and stretched the bed, before I thought of answering the person knocking.
This was an unusual hour for anyone to pay a visit, let alone knock on the door of a lady's room, I wasn't sure who it could be, but I was certain it wasn't either of my parents, they had both travelled and hadn't returned yet, I looked back at the curtains where I hid Jenna and Florence, they weren't moving, then I heard the knock again, I brushed my hands against my gown and walked to the door.
" Who is it ? " I asked
" It's Josse, my lady "
Josse was one of the head butlers, he had served my family long before I was born, a humble, loyal and decent man, I didn't know much about him, but i knew he had a wife, and a son.
I had heard him talk about his wife once, he had pleaded with my father to get off work for a few days, she had come down with some kind of illness, his son however was about my age, I had never seen him, but if I were to guess, he probably served some other family, however, that was the much i knew about Josse. Other than the fact that he was currently ruining my plans for girl's night.
" Come in " I said, but not before making sure Jenna and Florence were properly hidden. As soon as he walked in I noticed he was carrying a box in his hands, the content I had no idea of whatsoever.
" Apologies my lady, you wanted these ? " he said, lifting the box a little higher so I could see it properly, but even that didn't help.
" What's in the box Josse ? " I asked
" I don't know my lady, but I thought you would since you asked for it, Jared couldn't bring it, he had to run an errand for the lady Kayla, so I brought it instead. "
Now I remembered, I had asked one of the servants to bring something earlier on, don't worry you'll find out what it is soon enough.
Kayla, that girl sure does have some nerve, I thought to myself, she was one of my stepsisters, Kayla always tried to pick a fight with me wherever she could get it, childish jealousy was how I saw it, but that's okay, right now I couldn't let thoughts of her ruin my evening, I'll deal with her later.
That's okay Josse, you can put it over there " I told him.
Just like I had said he dropped it by my table and walked back to the door.
" Anything else, my lady " he asked
" No Josse, that will be all " I told him, so he could leave.
" Goodnight my lady "
" Goodnight "
As soon as he walked out, I called out to Jenna and Florence, Florence still had the gown on, and she held it up to avoid stepping on it.
" That was close " Jenna said.
" What's in the box my lady ? " Florence asked looking at it curiously.
I picked up the box and placed it on top of the table, ripping the ribbon I opened it, everything was still in place, exactly how I liked it, I turned to look at both Jenna and Florence who stared at me confused, and said...
" Something to add a little more colour to our evening, now, where were we ? "
