Chapter 9: Chapter 9

Asher's POV

The next two days were hell for me. Despite overdosing on coffee and the extra hours I put in I couldn't make it to the deadline Dominic put up for me hence why I'm going to submit it on Wednesday morning.

My friends noticed that I overworked but they didn't call me out on it. They were used to this behavior from me once in a while and I'm sure they must have guessed that it was Dominic. They tried to help me lessen the work load but I never let them work with me late into the night.

On Tuesday evening I had to chase them out of my office, like I literally had to chase them and I ran back to my office locking the door behind me so that they wouldn't come back.

My office is located on the East Wing of our lavishly styled Victorian themed pack house. It has over 150 rooms including bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens and the likes.

The pack house has other facilities like training rooms, recreational rooms, indoor swimming pools and hot tubs. Yes I know my uncle spends money so lavishly like that but the pack members; the teens in particular like it all so I guess its not a waste after all.

"Finally" I shout as I dash to my feet after I finished sorting the files like Dominic had requested me prior two days before today. I check my watch which read 1:30am.

"Damn where did the time go to" I mutter to myself as I walk around the table stretching lazily and popping a few bones. On cue my stomach growls loudly which reminds me that I only had coffee and a few cinnamon rolls for breakfast.

Re- arranging the files the way I'm going to hand it over to Dominic tomorrow I mean this morning I head over to the kitchen which is located at the center of this floor I'm on to put something in my very empty stomach.

I lock the door behind me keeping the key in my back pocket. I walk straight ahead then turn around the corner to head to my destination.

The pack house is beautiful this time of the year with Christmas lights everywhere I mean everywhere, ornaments hanging around, mini Christmas trees around the corners, its actually quite beautiful. I can't help but feel lonely every other person has a family or mate that they would spend this lovely time with but I have no one and NO! Dominic doesn't count.

I have Elias and Sally but I don't want to intrude, I only go when Sally drags me to her family's house or when she threatens me. Either way I'm happy I have them but the loneliness still gets to me.

On getting to the kitchen, everywhere is eerily silent of course no one would be up by this time well except the pack patrol and the guards. I walk over to the ridiculously large fridge passing the marble top counter with weird artificial flowers on it.

On opening the fridge a gush of cool air hit my face which makes me sigh if only I could get an ice bath to ease off my sour and aching muscles.

I pull out a jar full of chocolate chip cookies open it and munch on a few at the same time crunching it in my mouth loudly, seeing that more than half of the jar was already gone I put it back inside looking at the different racks looking for something else to diminish my hunger with. I look through the racks to find a very big portion of lasagna inside a plastic container. I scoop a very large helping into a plate that I shove it into the microwave to heat for just seven minutes.

As I sit back at the counter I hear the very familiar sound of feet against the tiled floor, I sniff the air for any unfamiliar smell but find none must be a pack member then I think to myself as I bite into an apple.

Moments later Sally walks into the kitchen with her mate in tow which she drags by the hand.

"I knew that I would find you here" she says as she enters my line of vision. I give her a questioning look.

"Why are you out looking for me?" I ask as she and her mate sit down on the kitchen stools in front of me the marble counter a barrier between us.

Before she replies I greet her mate with a handshake who looked like he just tumbled out of bed.

"Hey Daniel" I said as we shook hands briefly.

"Hey man" Daniel replies rubbing his eyes sleepily.

"Well I was just worried I guess, you have been working so much that its disturbing and you never let us help you" Sally answers to the question I asked her earlier.

God! I have heard these same complaints from her and Elias over and over again.

"So in summary I just came to check whether you were still alive and not dead or ran mad from overworking yourself" Sally finishes intertwining her hands with her mate. I just chuckle at her which causes her to turn her eyes into slits at me.

"Well Sally as you can see I'm okay and I haven't slumped or ran mad" I say finishing it off with a smile.

"You could have at least let Daniel sleep" I say looking at Daniel who hasn't stopped yawning since he got here.

Before Daniel or Sally can reply a shrill beeping sound causes them to stop and look for the direction of the noise.

"Well my dinner's ready" I say walking over to the microwave snagging a thick piece of cloth I will use to bring out the plate from the microwave.

"Anyone want to join me" I asked glancing at them when they both shake their heads I dig in with my fork I'm about to put the tasty lasagna in my mouth when Daniel speaks up.

"You might want to let it cool a bit unless you want a burnt tongue."

"Why did you tell him I was looking forward to him jumping around with hot food in his mouth". Sally says grinning at her mate as I put down my fork gently.

I meet her eyes with a playful glare but she just shrugs and snuggles into her mate's side. Weird I know right for someone who has a very tough exterior she's a like an adorable cute pup whenever her mate is around her.

"I'm sorry she dragged you out for no reason" I apologize to Daniel as he lets out another yawn while Sally puts her hand over his mouth closing it. He removes her hand and looks at me.

"It's nothing really she was just really edgy the whole evening and she wouldn't stay still I managed to make her sleep but an hour and a half later she sprang out of the bed dragging me and saying she had to check up on you". Daniel says while Sally refuses to look at me as she keeps snuggling her face into Daniel's neck.

"I'm actually worried though if what she says is true that you've been overworking yourself. We are still part humans and sleep as well as rest is vital to our system". Daniel says looking me in the eye. I can actually see the worry in his eyes.

"I'm sure the Alpha doesn't even work as much as you do" Daniel adds. Of course he doesn't when he basically gives me all his work I almost say but keep it to myself.

"I know I overwork myself a lot I can't help it actually but I promise you guys that I will tone it down a little and not slump or die or run mad" I said shooting a grateful smile to the couple in front of me.

"Just be careful and remember you always have me and Elias to help you" Sally speaks up.

"I know Sally and for that I'm really grateful"

"You should also find time to squeeze your meals or snacks in between your work" Daniel pipes in as he stands to his feet, Sally doing the same.

"I've heard your advice Docs". I reply smirking.

"Now that that's settled can we go home and sleep now?"Daniel asks as he turns to look at Sally who already has her gaze on him.

"Yeah sure we can" Sally replies locking her elbow with Daniel's.

"Good night guys" I say as I dig into my now warm lasagna.

"You too Asher" Daniel mutters as they leave the kitchen.
