Chapter 41: Back To School
Rem saw a few people patrolling the city. There were more than usual. Rem had no trouble sneaking into the city without anyone noticing her. The first thing she did when she got in her dorm room was to take off her disguise. Rem didn't shift in her monster form since she was too large and can be easily seen. She didn't have anything else to do so she used the rest of the time to rest a bit. Rem told 002 to wake her up at 8 in the morning.
{Beep, beep..! Beep, beep! Beep, beep!!!}
'OKAY!!! I get it. 002, you just had to tell me to wake up you know? Making alarm clock noises weren't necessary.'
{You told me to wake you up. You never said how.}
'Urg... I don't have time for this.' Rem sighed.
"Kiii!!!" Roy woke up.
'Are you hungry? Be a good boy and stay here for the day, okay..? I'll give you ten jerkies for now. Don't let yourself be seen. Got it?' Rem handed Roy the jerkies.
"Kiii!" Roy nodded snatched the jerkies away from Rem.
Rem giggled and got ready for school. After getting ready, Rem exited the dorms. At the entrance of the girl's dorms, Rem saw Karina. Karina saw Rem as well and smiled brightly.
"Good morning!" Karina greeted.
Karina was glad Rem seemed fine.
"Morning." Rem replied.
"Did you hear the news? We have an assembly today. It's going to take the whole morning. Homeroom all the way till lunch. Apparently, the principal has something very important to say." Karina said.
"I didn't know there was an assembly..." Rem said honestly.
"You're helpless... What are you going to do without me?" Karina chuckled.
"I'll just follow you." Rem changed the subject.
'Assemblies are boring and long...' Rem thought.
"Alright, alright. Follow me! I know the way..!" Karina walked towards the auditorium.
Rem followed Karina. They chatted about random things as they took their time to get to their destination. After a while, they finally arrived at the auditorium. Barely anyone was there.
"We're early..." Rem inspected the auditorium.
'As expected... It's huge!' Rem thought, fascinated.
"Yeah, we're early. More people will arrive soon." Karina said, looking around the room.
There was a huge stage in the front. Hundreds of seats were in front of the stage. There were also three double doors. One was the entrance in the middle on the other side of the stage. The second door was at the left of the stage while the third door was at the right of the stage. Rem and Karina took a seat in the front and continued chatting. After a few long minutes, almost all the auditorium seats were filled.
"Attention!" The principal said, using her magic to make her voice louder.
Everyone in the room shifted their focus on the principal and became silent.
"As you all may know, there were many abnormal things happening lately. It's dangerous outside more than ever and we still have no idea what caused this. During this casualty, 17 of our students were unfortunately killed." The principal shook her head with disappointment.
Many people in the room gasped and whispered to each other. As the principal began talking, they all went silent once again.
"Today, we will have these people here talk about those who have been killed. After that, we will let the student council members tell you a few speeches. It is an honor since these knights are willing to give a few speeches as well." The principal gave a microphone to one of the students who wanted to talk about their dead friend, family, or classmate.
'How boring...' Rem thought.
Rem and Karina have to spend the whole morning listening to speeches. After the assembly was over, it was finally lunch.
"They said we didn't have any more classes for today. Classes will start tomorrow." Karina told Rem as they walked to the cafeteria.
"They did? I wasn't listening." Rem said, walking beside Karina.
"I was bored so I listened. It was so boring. Still, I feel bad for those who died. The assembly partly turned into a funeral..." Karina felt bad.
"It's unfortunate." Rem didn't feel anything since she didn't know any of the people who were killed.
Rem suddenly felt dizzy.
"Urg..." Rem put her hand on her forehead and stumbled slightly.
"Are you okay..?" Karina asked, worried.
"I'm fine. I think I'm just tired of something." Rem replied.
"Please take better care of yourself!" Karina said.
'I still can't forgive myself for being weak... I made Rem hurt. It was all my fault..!' Karina thought, blaming herself.
"Thanks for worrying about me." Rem smiled weakly.

The two had lunch and went to the girl's dorms. They arrived at Karina's dorm room.
"You should rest for the rest of the day..!" Karina said as she waved at Rem.
"I will." Rem waved back and walked to her dorm room.
'I wonder what's wrong with me today..? I feel weak and tired for some reason... I should take Karina's advice and rest.' Rem thought.
Rem arrived at her dorm room and opened the door.
"Kiii!!!" Roy greeted Rem.
"You did well today. You must be bored. I'll be resting for a while... You should rest a while as well." Rem gave Roy a few more jerkies.
"Kiii..!" Roy nodded.
Rem climbed on her bed and put on her blanket.
"Kiii!" Roy climbed on the bed and laid next to the pillow.
He curled himself and closed his eyes. Rem smiled a little and drifted off to sleep.
