Chapter 3: Winter shootout

Sounds of tapping, produced by him as he waited on his seat, before adjusting himself as the seat wasn't comfortable, which was expected as he was in a Light Armored Jeep.

"Anxious?" Lena asked who was sitting on the driver seat.

Daniel looked at her, "No. What about you?"

She shrugged, which led to Daniel to chuckled a little bit. He then opened the map viewer on his tablet. "I'm going to look over the map again." He told her.

"Got it"

The map viewer showed a live view of the outpost, not far from them. All the objectives had been marked bar the HVT as the Russians can't find him, speculated to be hiding but speculated to be on one of the building near the weapon cache.

The outpost had a Water Tower on the North side, with two small buildings on the East side, with one of them being tagged, as the weapon were in there. On the West side, there multiple vehicles, mostly Technicals and SUVs. Lastly, the South side, which was the entrance, had a gate and two guard towers.

Daniel then quietly go over through the plan again. 'Team 1, which is me and the guys in the truck, will attack the Entrance side, take out whatever obstacles in our way and then grab the HVT. That will happen once Team 2 surprised them from the North side. Team 3 will be Makarov and the snipers on the West side, covering Team 2....yep that's all of em. Now I just need to wait Team 2 to be ready, and call in the explosives drone....and pray we don't need to improvise too much once the plan goes wrong.'

He turned off the Map Viewer, sighed as he was actually anxious but kept it cool. 'Can't let the team see their own leader being anxious' Daniel looked at his rifle, and checked the optics before asking a question. "Lena, can you check up on Team 2?"

"On it," Lena pressed her finger against the comms, "Team 2, this is Autumn, how's the progress on reaching the outpost?"

A voice responded to her, "This is Nomad, just in time. You can tell the boss we are ready."

Lena looked at her husband and gave an OK sign, who nodded in return, before gesturing to proceed with their plan. She then switched her frequency to the Russians'. "Fortress, this is Observer 1. Send in the packages. Over"

"Copy Observer 1," Fortress responded, and then a second delay before continuing. "Package sent, веселиться. Out"

Lena then gave a thumbs up to her husband, "We are ready to roll out."

"Copy that," Daniel responded as he looked to the back, "Doc, James. Buckle up."

The medic nodded, and charged her shotgun. James responded with the all too well known sound of the HM2A3 being charged, slightly hyping up the team. Lena quickly started up the engine of the Jeep, producing a roar of life.

Suddenly, an explosion can be heard from a distance, Daniel quickly looked through his scope and saw that the entrance and some parts of the outpost had been blew up. He then gave one simple order to his wife.

"Go"

Lena pushed the pedal to the metal, and the jeep immediately went off to the direction of the Outpost. The snowy terrain made the Jeep shaking, causing uncomfort to everyone but they hanged on. Not 2 minutes in and they were already 200 meters away from the outpost.

The insurgents that recovered from the explosion immediately opened fire towards them, and James immediately returned fire with the HMG, which disposed of the hostiles immediately.

As they got closer to the entrance, Lena shouted, "Everybody hang on!"

Daniel and the medic immediately ducked as they held their guns tightly while James immediately gets down to the passenger seat.

The jeep smashed through the wooden debris of the guard tower that blocked the entrance, and then the gates before stopping a few feet away.

Daniel shook his head as the force of impact caused him to be dizzy. "That's some mighty fine driving there Lena."

"Thank you," She coughed a little bit before picking up her gun, "I aimed to please" She quickly got out from the jeep and started firing at the incoming hostiles while quickly making her to a nearby cover on the left.

Daniel quickly followed her after a quick checkup on James and the medic. He ran as quickly as he could with his head down before finally reaching Lena and took cover beside her.

James and the medic stayed behind at the jeep, the former still on the machine gun, keep firing at the insurgents causing them to duck in cover while the latter hide behind the jeep.

"How many do we got there?" Daniel loudly asked Lena as he covered their nine in case an insurgent decided to flank them.

Lena peeked and quickly counted the red icon displayed from her visor, "Around 10!" She answered, "We can flank them easily since James is distracting them!" She suggested.

"Agreed!" Daniel then lowered his gun, "I will take point!" Both of them sneaked away from their cover and made their way to the hostiles.

They were now at the left side of where their enemies were and in behind cover. "James, watch your fire, me and Lena are about to take these guys down" Daniel whispered to his radio.

"Roger that!" Shouted James as he still continue firing the big gun.

Lena then pulled out a grenade and grinned at Daniel, who nodded in return. She quickly pulled the pin and threw it at the bad guys. Both heard a scream or two from the insurgents about the grenade but immediately got interrupted by a loud explosion.

Both Daniel and Lena immediately got up from their cover and started firing despite their ears ringing. The remaining insurgents that survived the grenade recovered from the explosion and tried to return fire but was quickly taken out from the combined effort of Daniel, Lena and James.

After quick work of taking the bad guys out, they stopped firing. "How are we guys doing?" Daniel asked his team through the radio.

Lena gave a quickly thumbs up as she took a deep breath while checking on the dead bodies of the insurgents.

"We are fine here," James responded, groaning as he got out from the MG seat, "What's our next move brotha?" He asked.

Daniel was about to answer when he and the rest suddenly heard mortar going off in the distance. Soon, they saw the shells raining down not far from them.

"Team 1, this is Deadeye from Team 3, Team 2 is in trouble and we lost contact to them. They are stuck in the building containing the weapons." One of the snipers calmly told through the radio.

"Shit," Daniel swore, "Alright we are on our way to assist Team 2, any visuals on the HVT?" He asked.

"Negative, no visual." The sniper answered.

Daniel swore internally, "Copy that, do anything you can to help Team 2. Out"

As he and Lena made their way to Team 2, Daniel gave out orders to James and Doc. "Guys, once we gave the clear, make your way to us with the jeep, we may have a wounded or two."

"Roger that." James replied as he got on the driver seat and turned on the jeep's engine while the medic got to the passenger's seat.

Back to Daniel and Lena, they both increased their pace as they hoped their fellow Ghosts in Team 2 were safe and sound.
