Chapter 2: | Boredom Might Kill Me |

By the time I made it the bus doors were closing.

"WAIT!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. Running after it.

It halted and I sighed in relief. The doors swung open and I bolted into the bus. As I entered I muttered a grateful thank you to the overweight bus driver and sat in the back because of how crowded it was. I exhaled, sinking into my seat. What would have happened if I had missed the bus? I'd probably miss the cruise. Just thinking about the cruise leaving without me made me nervous. Hopefully, the bus will be delayed. I glanced nervously at my watch.

It had been almost forty minutes and I only had an hour to get to the cruise ship on time.

I got out my iPhone eight, out of my bag. Yes, I do have a sucky phone. I scrolled through Instagram seeing my friends enjoying their first few days of summer, while I was going straight to my summer job. But I don't mind, I was excited to be somewhere new. I've only lived in Florida and nowhere else. So it will be fun to be on a fancy cruise, but it would be a pain to work for rich people. Yes, unfortunately, I was working for the V.I.P customers, which meant that I could get fired for one bad review. Yes, the ship I was working for was not for middle-class people, the only people who could afford it were rich businessmen and their families.

The bus came to a stop. Nervousness seized my stomach as I got up grabbing my duffle bag to leave at my bus stop. I happily said goodbye to the fat Busdriver and hopped out of the bus. The humid air hit me like a punch to the face, that will never get old. I walked on the sidewalk. I was a couple of blocks away from Port Canaveral, which was one of the busiest cruise ships ports. I slung my duffle bag over my shoulder lightly jogging as I walked to the direction of Port Canaveral. I walked the busy streets glancing at my watch frequently to make sure I was going to be on time. I jogged a little faster. When I finally made it to Port Canaveral I was panting. I walked through the mast parking lot heading towards the only cruise ship at the port at the moment, Serenity.

I looked up at a humongous cruise ship. It was sparkling white as if it was just cleaned and it was attached to the dock by three pull out bridges. One of them had a big sign saying (Staff Entrance), where people were lining up.

I stumbled in the line of staff members waiting to show the security guard my authorization card. The cruise ship was leaving tomorrow, so the company made the staff members come a few days before to get settled and ready to serve the tourist and customers.

The security guard looked down at me as I fumbled with my lanyard that had my card attached then giving him the card. He nods at me scanning it on his scanner. The scanner beeped loudly before he gave the card back. Nodding to the bridge that led to the staff entrance doors. I mumbled my thanks re-adjusting my bag on my shoulder and walking with the crowd to the staff doors.

Not knowing where to go I followed the crowd. Everyone is going to one place, through the staff hallways. When we finally stopped someone was opening a door. Once it was open, we entered into a huge room. It was beautiful with expensive furniture that was probably worth more than me. Sounds of heels clicking on the marble floor. Everyone kept walking through the lobby and into a wide hallway, which was lavishly decorated with paintings and the floor covered with red velvet carpet. The crowd and I walked through the hallways and big rooms until we found our way into a beautiful auditorium. Everyone sat down and waited. I looked down at my phone, five more minutes before one of the staff leaders would come up and help everyone get settled. I looked down at my phone, not really a morning person. Everyone was whispering throughout the auditorium, introducing themselves to each other. I scrolled through my Instagram and Snapchat. My head snapped up when everyone began to stop talking, and a person walked on the stage. She was probably in her thirties, she was wearing a black dress that hugged her body.

She had a confident smile on her face as she walked on the stage, her long curly brown hair bouncing as she walked to the center of the stage.

"Welcome to Serenity!" She exclaimed, after grabbing the mic from the middle of that stage that was neatly put on a stand.

As she spoke enthusiastically I found myself zoning out, not really focusing on a single subject just lazily picking at my nails. I almost started sleeping, as she droned on and on about responsibilities as a staff member, and I thought Academics class was bad in high school.

I looked down at my watch.

We had thirty minutes left of the meeting.

Well then…

I groan internally going through my bag grabbing earphones putting them in. Soon my music was tuning out her voice. I got a couple of disapproval looks from adults as they saw my earphones in. I just rolled my eyes and listened to my music.

After the very boring orientation, I learned that after lunch I was to report at my assigned work area for more training. Getting up out of my seat I grabbed my duffle bag and slung it over my shoulder walking out of the auditorium. I walked quickly to the staff elevators before they got flooded with other staff members.

Smushed in the Elevators by people, I waited for my floor patiently.

When my floor comes I fumble out of the Elevator trying not to be squeezed to death. Once in the hallway, I look for my room number.

"1569..1569.." I mumbled to myself as I look for my room number. The hallway was small with doors on either side, none had much space between the doors, telling me that the rooms were going to be tiny. I reached for my lanyard, bringing it to the scanner by my door. After scanning I heard the lock, unlock with a metallic clink.

Opening it quietly I stepped in lightly.

It was small, but decent, probably the size of my room. It was very narrow with a bed that could pull out of the wall and a table that could fold up onto the wall to, its chair in the corner. I turned to the bathroom near it. It had a sliding door, with a lock on the other side. It had a shower but not a bath, it had a toilet and a small sink by it with a cabinet engraved into the wall, giving me storage.

Exiting the bathroom I opened up my closet. There were three uniforms in the closet, each the same classy black and a pair of dress shoes. Wow. It was really fancy here. I walked over to my small nightstand that had an alarm clock and a piece of paper. I picked up the folded piece of paper opening it delicately.

It had a bunch of information on it with a little map to help me get around on the ship and the place I would be working at. It's bold letters making me see it immediately. It said I was privileged and trusted to work at the V.I.P lounge/Club. I smiled, this would be fun I guess?
