Chapter 35: Shiki vs Orochimaru
"Very nice indeed! Shiki-kun . . ." Said Orochimaru his tongue moving about in a creepy way.
'Wow! Just Wow! How can someone be so fucking creepy in real life? Whatever, finally I get a change to really cut loose . . . Even though this bastard is quite useful alive, he's not going to die easily from my attacks so I can have so actual fun against a valid opponent!' Thought Shiki while observing his opponent.
Not even bothering with talking, Shiki pulled out his fan and, not even enlarging it, used it to fire a Wind Style: Vacuum Wave Barrage with no hand signs.
Orochimaru easily dodged it but Shiki who had activated his Wind Style: Whirlwind Cloak with the help of his fan had already predicted the direction of his dodge and was waiting for him there.
Already fully focused in the battle and not underestimating Shiki, Orochimaru used his snake like soft physique modification on his whole body to dodge the taijutsu attack enhanced by the boy's Whirlwind Cloak.
However, the increased range meant that Shiki still managed to get some damage in, or so it seemed, Orochimaru had used and earth style substitution to avoid the blow but with his sharingan, Shiki managed to see it and unleashed a hail of Win Style: Vacuum Bullets in his direction.
Some of the bullets actually managed to hit Orochimaru but with another of his snake shedding substitutions, he escaped tru damage once again.
'It's really hard to kill him when he has those substitutions that can actually be used after receiving the damage. Not only that but also his spirit, which was immortalised by his Living Corpse Reincarnation also means that targeting his head for an instant kill has very little meaning . . .'
'Still, in a battle of attrition, he'll run out of energy first. As an Uzumaki who had melded Hashirama's soul, I have a colossal amount of stamina and even if my chakra reserves are not that much bigger than his, I still have two filled Strength of a Hundred Seals so even if I keep a high intensity offence, Orochimaru will still tire himself out before me.'
Coming to this conclusion, Shiki restarted his offence. Barrages of ninjutsu from all five basic elements and a blitz attack with his masterful Body Flicker whenever he spotted an opening. It was turning into a battle of attrition, just as he had predicted.
Shiki had an edge on Orochimaru because even though their power levels didn't have much of a difference, Shiki could maintain high intensity combat for a lot longer so he had a big advantage. Although Orochimaru could match his current prowess, he would run out of energy a minute or two later which resulted in Shiki dominating the prolonged battle.
Seeking to gain a little breather, Orochimaru summoned two giant snakes, he hung back on one's head while sending the other to strike at Shiki who didn't have his own summons. Although he had more "perfect" ways of dealing with the snake, Shiki went for maximum speed and efficiency.
Clad in his Whirlwind Cloak, he jumped at the snake who swallowed him and bursted out from its insides right away, instantly killing it, his protection resulting in he not even being soiled by the snake's fluids.
Orochimaru was surprised at shiki's way of dealing with his summon but didn't even have time to comment as a Wind Style: Vacuum Bomb was already flying towards him. He managed to safely dodge, his second summoned snake however, was not quite so fortunate and its head was crushed by the jutsu. But Orochimaru had started to figure out Shiki's attack pattern.
'He's no longer relying on that basted substitution as much as he was at the start . . . This is the difference between our battle experience. If I want to reliably hit him, I need attacks with a wider area of effect.' Shiki though as he planned to make some changes to his fighting style.
First he unleashed his Fire Style: Flame Flower Jutsu which was a rain of Fire Style: fireball Jutsus that Madara used in the war then, he enlarged his fan and used a supercharged version of Wind Style: Great Breakthrough to enhance his fire jutsu's power and area of effect.
Although his jutsu was not as powerful as Madara's version, with the boost of the wind style, it still created a veritable sea of flames immediately forcing Orochimaru to use his shedding substitution to escape damage.
Shiki was being far more high profile than he initially intended. He was planning to retreat if things got to heated because it may lead to the stoppage of the chunin exams but now, he was enjoying the battle to the fullest, using high profile justus one after another as nearly every genin in the exam as well as the examiners taking notice of his battle.
He knew it was already far too late but still, he prepared himself for one final attack before retreating and delivering his scroll to the tower while praying for the exams to continue.
The Konoha Eleven were already watching the battle from afar, awestruck a Shiki's raw power and skill. Kabuto was dumbfounded watching a genin pwning his master and the sand trio was observing this monstrous battle with different thoughts.
Kankuro was feeling scared at nearly having started a fight against such a monster, Garra looked as if he could barely hold himself from jumping into the fight at full power to quench his bloodthirst meanwhile, seeing Shiki use a fan just like her was making temari think how feasible was to approach him based on it and how they would fit well together, almost forgetting what she was doing in Konoha.
'Fire Style: Dragon Flame Caterwaul' Shiki began his final attack releasing a barrage of dragon shaped fireballs. A Wind Style: Great Breakthrough followed right after resulting in four giant fire dragons racing to Orochimaru in an erratic manner making it difficult to predict their movements.
Orochimaru was forced to use his shedding substitution to avoid damage twice more but just as he though the fire dragons were about to dissipate, Shiki restored their strength using wind jutsu thus prolonging their existence and Orochimaru's suffering.
'I really bit off more than I could chew . . . I should retreat for now . . .' Was what Orochimaru thought analysing the situation. 'This boy didn't even give me the chance to introduce myself but I got a good look at his capabilities so it wasn't all a waste of time . . . Now, how should I bring him to my side . . . It's really hard to give up considering how perfect he is as a vessel . . .'
The constant use of his shedding substitution had started to tire him out so Orochimaru opted to retreat. Thinks he had already made to much of a spectacle, Shiki just went to the tower while giving flirting glances to the beauties watching to great effect after his show of power.
In the end, not only was he the first to pass the second exam but he also set the fastest clear record, even faster than Gaara's team in the original. Shiki left nearly a third of the entire forest incinerated which made a couple of the remaining teams turning the exam into a battle royal in a plane rather than survival training in the forest.
However, even though Shiki feared the exam would be stopped after such events, it turned out they were going to keep things rolling. As he checked the remaining teams from the central tower with his White Eye of the kagura he realised that those who passed were pretty much the same as in the original series with one notable exception, the Oto genin.
Shiki chuckled to himself after realising he had inadvertently burned them to death with his last few attacks on Orochimaru despite not even realizing it. After the moment of chuckling though, he realised one big problem.
'It was fine since it was the three Oto stooges but if somebody I cared for got caught up in my attacks it wouldn't be funny at all . . . I was having way too much fun and didn't pay as close attention to my surroundings as I should've . . .' Thought Shiki in a moment of self reflection.
'But in turn, this will make taking Karin with me extra easy since the fires utterly destroyed any evidence of my actions and her village will simply think she'll have died in the fire which is a plus although I don't really thinks they would be able to make any problems for me . . .'
In the end, the passing teams were the Konoha Eleven, Gaara's team, Kabuto's team and Shiki. Kabuto himself withdrawn after a preliminary elimination round was announced before the third exam. As the matches started SHiki was brought before the Hokage with Anko, Tsunade, Shizune and Shikamaru's father Shikaku as well as Yugao accompanying him to ask for a report.
When asked about what happened for him to make such a spectacle in the Forest of Death, Shiki simply responded.
"I had a bit of an altercation with Orochimaru. Nothing major." He said in a dismissive tone but still shocking everyone in the room.
