Chapter 2: Chapter 1: First Case

"What is your case is about?" I put my hand on my hips while looking directly at my client. This was my first case so I was very nervous. My client was here in front of me holding his black bag in his right hand.

"S- someone says that I k- killed their friend" His legs were trembling and he was sweating a river even though the air-conditioner is on.

Oh! It's a big problem. Some of my friend's cases are about this.

"Did he/she see you in the crime place?" I stood up and shoved my hands in my pocket. I walked slowly while looking at him, eye to eye. He shook his head.

"Did you see anyone except you on the crime scene?" I crossed my arm over my chest.

While he was rubbing his hands on his thighs.

"I d-don't know" that was his only answer.

I went back to my seat "Can you tell me now, every single detail about what happened?"

He let out a harsh breath "When I was about to go home after attending my friend's party. I saw a boy lying down on the floor. At first, I thought he was drunk but when I turned him over, I saw a knife on his chest" he covered his eyes with his arms and started crying a river. "I panicked that's why I removed the knife on his chest because I thought he would be alive again after I do that but I was wrong, he was still not breathing. I immediately took out my phone from my pocket to contact 911 but when I was about to dial, someone yelled and accused me of killing his friend and he said that he will sue me for doing that and he also said that his proof will be the knife that I was holding"

He was nervous that's why I was not sure if he was telling the truth or not. There are two possibilities. First, like what I've said, he was nervous. Probably, he was nervous because he was scared that he might be put in jail once everyone knows that he is the killer. Second, he was just nervous because he was traumatized. He was traumatized because of what he had seen.

"What do you hope to accomplish?" I sat down, I interwined my fingers together then rested my hands on the table.

"To clear my name" He stopped for a second to wipe his tears "To be innocent" He put his hands together and kneeled in front of me.

"Please Attorney Bravery, Help me to prove that I am innocent, that I never killed anyone" His tears continued to flow from his eyes.

I helped him to stand up and said "You're innocent until proven guilty." and sent him off.

I still wasn't sure if he's the one who did that or others that's why I can't promise to clear his name. I need to investigate him too. I'm not the type of lawyer who's defending the criminal.

I told my client to have some rest and I will investigate everything.

I get my phone and called Athena, my prosecutor friend "Hey!"

"What's up girl!"

"What's the tea?" I know that was the first thing she would ask me.

I laughed "I have my first case!" I announced.

"Congratulations Girl" I can almost hear what she wants to say next. "Let's go to a bar!" she said like it wasn't an offer.

"Girl, you're a prosecutor and I'm a lawyer."

She just laughed and ended the call.

I texted my other friends and informed that I want to meet them at our working place, the law firm. I jumped with excitement. Before I was just helping them with their cases but now, I already have my case. I smile widely.

After that, I was already sleepy. I sat down on my swivel chair then rested my body. I slowly closed my eyes.

"Objection Overruled" I shouted at the court. I let out a curse silently so that no one could hear it "With so many lawyers in this world, why is he our opponent?" I whispered while looking at Zavien Dean Xhynie. But my mouth dropped open because after I said that, he suddenly looked at me.

"Do you havee enough evidence that he did not do that?" he asked while looking at me pointedly. I felt like I was losing myself as he looked at me, straight. 'Gosh! I should not be like this now!'

"Yes, I have." I said boldly. I should not be weak right now. I stood up "Are you familiar with this?" I show them the red handkerchief.

The witness's eyes widened, I smirked.

"No, I don't know that" he defended himself but his eyes said it all.

"If so, why is your name marked here?" I show them his name printed on the left side of the kerchief.

"I don't know, maybe someone is trying to frame me" he shooked his head over and over again

I can say that the witness is accustomed to lying, I should give him a medal for that. I noticed that Zavien Dean is silently laughing. My forehead furrowed. Is there anything funny here?

"You are the witness and you're saying that someone is framing you? Shouldn't my client say that?"

I looked directly in witness's eyes and said "Remember, you are under oath." I went back to my client.

"Based on the defendant, he just saw your friend lying down on the road so he checked if he was drunk, but when he turned the body around he saw a knife on his chest. he removed the knife, hoping that he is still alive. Then you came and saw him holding the knife with his hand. After that, you already accused him as murderer."

"How are you so sure that he is the murderer by just seeing him like that? Who would kill on the road? Use your common sense"

I walked slowly and went to the centre of the court "Your Honour, He doesn't have enough evidence to prove that my client is one hundred percent guilty. The witness doesn't have enough and solid evidence to prove that the defendant is real murderer"

"We will review the evidence and the statement. We will just inform everyone about the schedule of the next trial. This court is adjourned." The Judge said

"All rise," The Judge added

I open my eyes with a smile on my lips. But when I turned around I notice something,' Why am I still here? Does that mean it was just a dream?'

I washed my face to completely wake up. I picked up my phone and called Athena "Is my case over?"

"Are you crazy, girl? You just said that you want us to meet in the law firm and now you are asking me if your case is over? tss" I know that I pissed her off but that was not what I wanted.

I wanted to know what the heck is happening!?
