Chapter 2: Newcomings: Draven

8:26 AM

The sun is just starting to rise as I drive the streets of Oregon. The red and orange colors mix on the horizon as seemingly a million thoughts fill my mind.

As the fresh air fills my lungs, I get flashbacks from my life back in New York. Although the memory is new, it feels so distant at the same time. I know deep in my heart there's no going back.

A week after the incident, we packed up and left the city. There's no bouncing back from what has happened, and although I know my Dad is just doing what he thinks is best for the family, it doesn't hurt any less.

Within the span of a week, I had to pick up 17 years of my life and move across the country. In the process, severing the ties with many of my friends.

Taking a deep breath, I make a left, following the directions from the gps towards the beach. Although it's going to suck to start over, at least it's relatively safer here, which was Mom's main concern anyway.

After I get to the beach, I slip off my sneakers and hold them in my right hand, slipping my left in the pocket of my shorts.

Trotting down the sand towards the water, out of my peripheral I see a small figure curled up on the sand.

I stand still facing the direction of the figure toggling whether to go closer, once my curiosity gets the best of me, I find myself walking over.

Cautiously stepping closer, I squint my eyes to see the figure is actually a girl. A really small one at that.

As I focus on her, my heart jumps out of my chest when her phone starts ringing. In a deep rest, all she does is scrunch her nose at the sound and continues to sleep.

As soon as the call drops, her phone starts ringing again. Just then, I realize how creepy I must look.

Bending down, I lightly shake her shoulder, just enough for her to wake up.

She drously sits up and brushes the sand off her hoodie, then in a sudden frenzy, she frantically looks around. As soon as her eyes land on me, she makes a fearful face, but quickly composes herself .

She says nothing, but instead her eyes narrow as she studies me. Usually I would be perplexed with someone staring at me, But I don't mind, because I find myself doing the same thing.

When I look her over, I notice her pin straight, silky black hair. Which in turn, perfectly compliment her hazel eyes, with hints of blue in them. Her eyes are big and doll like, they're surrounded by naturally long eyelashes, and I find them extremely alluring. Next I notice her smooth honey-toned skin color, and her plump pink lips. She has tapered, neat eyebrows, that suit her cutesy face well. She can't be more than 18.

" Are you done staring now?" The girl says

Taken aback from her tone, I raise a quizzical brow.

" That came out crudely. Not to sound rude, but do I know you?" She says as she looks me up and down

" I don't think you've had the pleasure" I say, smirking

" You're a cocky one aren't you?" She says with a giggle

" Don't judge too quickly now"

She opens her mouth to respond, but is cut off by the ringing of her phone.

Turning to grab it, she furrows her brow while looking at the caller ID. I'm silent as I find myself sitting across from her as she answers on the fourth ring.

The sun is almost up now, as a cool breeze flows by us.

" Hello?...Calm down!.....Oh my...Ugh...GOD! I'll be there in ten."

She grabs her bag and sneakers in her left hand, and springs up from her spot.

I look up at her as she shakes her body as a failed attempt to dust some sand off of herself.

Leaping up myself, I can see how small she actually is in comparison to me. She's no more than 5'2.

Craning her neck to look up at me, she gives me a blank stare.

"Uhm, thank you for waking me up." She says as she continuously steps back

" I really appreciate it, but I have to go now." She says, turning

Soon she breaks into a sprint, and I find myself calling after her.

" Wait, I never caught your name" I yell

I stand still with my toes in the cool sand, staring at her shrinking figure in the distance, waiting for a response.

When it was clear I wasn't receiving one. I find myself making my way back to the car, with this mystery girl invading my thoughts.

My first morning in Oregon was interesting to say the least.
