Chapter 2: I

𝑇𝑤𝑜 𝑌𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝐿𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟...1971

'Wool's Orphanage was that way. Boring.'

*

SEVEN YEAR OLD KENDALL EVIE BROOKE AWOKE TO A VERY BORING MORNING AT WOOL'S ORPHANAGE. It was her birthday that day, not that it was different from usual days. Wool's Orphanage was that way.

Sometimes Kendall would spend her free days thinking, trying to remember anything about her family. You see, when she was brought to the orphanage, she couldn't even remember who brought her or anything about her previous family.

Well, that might be a lie.

She could still remember vague things, like pale blondes and lots of yelling, but that was about it. No matter how hard she strained her memory, she couldn't remember anything else. Because of this, most of the other children at the orphanage made fun of her and her memory loss. Of course, Kendall was friendly with some of them, and had one or two friends, but that was about it.

She didn't have much experience with social interactions, so her and her friends never really hung out much. It was just that way. Had been, actually, for the past two years.

There was one more reason that the other children didn't like her much.

She had a tendency to make weird things happen.

Like her hands glowing and things floating.

Well, the glowing hands and bright light were the only things the others were sure she was doing. The floating objects they assumed was because of some ghost. They completely freaked out and the Matron, Ms Riverine thought someone was practicing Black Magic or something at the orphanage.

Ms Riverine was a very religious woman, so she tried every ritual possible to shoo away the so-called 'ghost' haunting the orphanage.

But Kendall had a tiny feeling telling her that it wasn't Black Magic and that she had something to do with it...

Kendall tried banishing the thoughts away, but she couldn't help the little nagging feeling she got whenever she did something weird.

Almost telling her that...

Kendall loved remembering something new about her past, but it was when she could decode all the odd feelings connecting to magic, she wondered if she really 'was' going mad.

"KENDALL! BREAKFAST IS READY!" Anna rammed on her door. Anna was one of the two 'friends' she had at the orphanage.

"Coming!"

Kendall heard footsteps becoming more distant, so she assumed that Anna had gone downstairs for breakfast.

Kendall put on a grey t-shirt and worn-out black jeans. She only had four other outfits which weren't exactly lookers, but it was what life at the orphanage was like. She didn't complain either, any clothes was better than none at all.

And since Kendall had a lack of social skills, she didn't really know how to stick up for herself at most times. She usually ignored the rude children at the orphanage and told herself to calm down.

Another thing that Kendall always forgot, for some reason, as she arrived in the dinning hall, (it was small for a 'hall') was the quality of the food.

She'd never had any gourmet or grand food that she could remember of, so she didn't know why she always felt disappointed when she saw cold simple food for meals.

The only thing Kendall properly remembered from 'home,' (if she had one) was that her birthday was on the twelfth of May in 1964. And that was it.

A nurse sometimes came over to the orphanage for Kendall's memory problem, but no matter what she did, Kendall never remembered any more than she did in the time she spent brooding.

^*~___~*^

And while Kendall was having a boring morning, Athena Luna Malfoy of the Ancient Malfoy Family was having quite a drama-filled one.

Including befriending a Muggleborn and a half-blood, and then being slapped by your brother, Athena could safely assume that Malfoy Manor would be a nightmare once she got back.

*

Sirius was wondering if he had done the right thing, snapping at Athena, but he quickly vanished the guilt. Athena was probably like them anyway.

He met James Potter, a pureblood too, but one of the families classified as blood traitors, and yet he and Sirius immediately clicked.

They passed by a compartment (before Athena) and made fun of some greasy haired boy's name before proceeding to cause havoc on the train.

Sirius was ecstatic, but his mood quickly faded when the Sorting Ceremony began.

He knew that he'd go into Slytherin, like the rest of his family, and James would go into Gryffindor, and their short-lived friendship would come to an end.

All too soon, his name was called.

He shakily approached the stool and seated himself onto it. Professor McGonagall placed the Sorting Hat on him.

All Sirius could think was dread of going into Slytherin because he'd lose James and end up like the rest of his family.

"'Ah, another Black?'"

"Just get it over with," Sirius mumbled. He knew that the others couldn't hear what he was saying, anyway, except the Hat.

"'Oh, but I do not think that Slytherin is really the best for you. You seem to be dreading it, and I sense daring...'" the Hat mused.

A jolt of shock went through Sirius's body.

'There could be hope!'

Instantly, all Sirius could think right then was Gryffindor. Red and gold. Lions. How he pictured the Gryffindor common room to look like...

"'Rebellious...you seem more like reckless than cunning...oh, yes...'"

Sirius rolled his eyes.

"So?"

A few seconds of silence passed.

Sirius was getting a bit worried, but before he could overthink it, the Hat had already shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"

A deafening silence fell across the Great Hall.

And for a couple seconds, nobody clapped.

Before someone cleared their throat, coughed, and clapped once loudly.

'Hang on...was that Athe—'

Very slowly, the Gryffindors started to clap while the Slytherins all glared at Sirius.

Smirking, Sirius jumped off the stool and bounded to the Gryffindor table.

Athena Malfoy then got into Gryffindor and that was when the drama begins.

And still goes on.
