Chapter 4: The Burial

It was 12 in the morning on a cloudy boring day and me, Ryan, and Jerry, where digging a hole for my parents' burial.

The shovels we were using were a bit old and used, but they did the job well.

It took us around an hour to make a hole deep and wide enough for my parents' bodies to fit in, but we managed.

I have to say, that was the worst experience of my life, digging my own parents' final resting place. I would have never expected to do this in my life, I mean, I was only 7 years old.

When we finally dug the hole we headed for my parents, who were just beside us.

All the way, I was crying. I couldn't stop the tears from flowing out, it was the saddest experience of my life.

"Come on kid, you have to be strong for your parents" - said Jerry as he grabbed my father and took him to the hole we had dug.

"Yes..." - I said as I also grabbed my mother and took her to the grave we had prepared.

They were both wrapped in cloth, but it still felt really bad to be with their dead bodies.

Jerry carefully put my father on the left, with enough space for me to put my mother on the right.

"Come on, let's cover the hole" - annouced Jerry as he got the two shovels and handed one to me.

"Yes..." - I said with a depressed face

After about half an hour, we finally covered the hole and my parents were finally gone.

They - were - gone

My mother loved flowers, especially roses, so I thought it would be a nice idea to grab some for her to go to heaven with.

With all that said and done, I wanted to say a little speech to remeber them.

"I loved them both, my dad, Harry, and my mother, Elizabeth. For me, they were the greatest parents that have ever walked the earth. They were caring, loving and doting, they had it all, but our time together was a bit short"

I couldn't stop the tears from flowing out, but I kept on a straight face. This was the last message I'd say to them before they went on, so it had to be a good one.

"Th-they both worked hard to get food for my plate, hell, they even di-died because of it. So, on this final message I am going to give them, I only have one th-thing to say: Yes dad, yes mum, I will follow my dreams. I will become whatever I want, I will be the greatest mage on earth, the best one anybody has ever seen. I hope you accept my decision and that you live in never-ending happiness up there" - I said as I look up. There, that was it, the last thing i'd say to them, now, it was all over.

To end it all, we carved on a stone their names:

R.I.P - Harry Heather Fearless 3000 - 3028

R.I.P - Elizabeth Stone Hunter 3001 - 3028

Now that I look at it, my parents really have beautifull names, with all them combined I'm called, Ryan Heather-Stone Fearless Hunter, if it works like that.

"Good job kid, now let's head back home" - said Jerry has he patted me on the head

"What? Are you going to let me go with you?" - I confusedly and suprisedly asked

"As you know, us, from the village, barely have enough to eat, and much less to share, so I really can't let you live with me. However, I can, at least, let you spend the night in my small house" - he explained to me whilst looking the other way

"Yes, I understand, after the night passes, I will be on my way" - that's what I get for getting my hopes up. I undertand because it's normal that he wouldn't want a kid like me. I would only be a bother, I'd do the very same thing if I were him. Nevertheless, I suppose he wasn't that good of a friend with my father, he couldn't even look me in the eye while saying all that.

"It's good you understand" - I think I saw a relieved face on him just as he said that, well, it doesn't really matter.

After that, the hole way to the village we stayed silent, there was nothing else to say.
