Chapter 3: The Bird and the Shut-in
Stella hoisted the bird then scanned the area and worried that the vet might have been too far away and while carrying him he might not make it.
She hurriedly brought him to her apartment and placed him on a table. She brought her first aid kit, put on gloves, and sterilized all the equipment she needed to use.
Before she began the procedure, she whispered to herself.
"Alright, I have to do this quickly and carefully."
Stella carefully wiped the blood away, dressed and sew up his wounds, wrapped bandages around his wings, and placed a wooden splint on his damaged leg which she secured with a bandage.
She then put the bird to rest in a small shoebox where she prepared a soft comfy pillow for him.
"Rest well, you'll be better in a few days."
(Time skip of four days)
Four days have passed since Stella aided in the bird's recovery.
Her daily life went on normally with just the addition of her taking care of the bird's needs.
"I'll be heading out again little one. I'll be back before you know it okay. So be a good boy and rest."
She quietly said as she gently stroked the bird's head. The bird chirped happily at being pampered.
As she stopped and turned to leave, he let out a chirp of unhappiness as Stella turned around saw him feebly walking towards her.
"Hey! You need to stay put! and how are you even walking with that leg of yours!?"
She said in shock as his leg was not completely healed yet. She lifted him to get him off his leg. The bird didn't make a sound but instead looked at her with puppy dog eyes.
"Aww, I know you don't want me to leave again but I have to go to work today too."
She said as she placed him back into the box beside a small bowl of food along with water.
"Now stay!" She instructed.
The bird was shocked by her sudden change in tone and attempted to hide in the corner of the box.
" you're so cute," she told him.
" I'm sorry I scared you."
She kissed him on his forehead.
Then once again placed him in the box. She walked to the door and said,
" I'll be back soon, wait for me okay."
He looked at her with a sad expression on his face.
"I love you." She said smilingly.
The bird's eyes lit up after hearing her words of affection. He felt her statement flow throughout his body. He felt as light as one of his feathers on his back. As she slowly closed the door in front of him, he thought to himself...
"Sh– She loves me? ... She loves me!"
He happily chirped.
"But, why am I so incredibly delighted to hear that even though I have heard those words a million times over?"
The thing was, the bird was an elf duke of another world called Avalon. His name was Tai-chi, Oliver, Rovell, Verniel and he was the second-ranking duke of the Imperial Empire. He was also one of the four magical generals— the most powerful and richest elves other than the emperor. As he was that high ranking, he was ordered by the emperor to go on extremely difficult quests.
One of these said extremely difficult quests was the destruction of an Overlord that had recently appeared. Upon the completion of his task, Tai-chi went out of control and nearly destroyed the entire imperial empire. Tai-chi's downfall was at the hands of none other than the first magical general — Duke Advik Ambrose.
To stop him from destroying the Empire and surrounding counties, duke Advik stopped him by almost eradicating him in the process then sent him to Earth. He had been injured so badly that he had to resort to transforming into his third form — a canary.
Which leads to the current predicament he's in right now.
"Every time I see her, I can't help but wonder why I'm so pleased to be in her presence."
"I feel incredibly depressed when she leaves, I wish she stayed and indulged me more."
He sighed.
"I want her to be by my side and kiss me again. She's so kind and beautiful. She smells great too. Just the thought of seeing her with someone that's not me–"
He felt a great amount of discomfort as he said that last sentence.
" Huh? Why am I so upset about something that trivial? " It can't be that I'm in love with that young lady, am I?"
"No, I doubt that. It may just be that I hit my head hard when I fell. I'm sure I'll be back to normal in a couple of days."
(Two days passed )
"The way she looks at me with those big blue eyes, her soft tone when she speaks to me, that graceful walk of hers is just...! How can a person be this gorgeous!?"
*chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp ( Stella's perspective.)
She walked over to where Tai-chi sat and started to pet him.
" You're almost fully healed now, your leg's already better, and when your wings heal be able to fly again and be free."
She said as she looked down at the little yellow canary with blue accents.
Stella was really happy to have someone to talk to, with whom she could tell her problems to, someone who'd listen to her and make her happy just by existing.
(*Chirp, Chirp Chirp Chirp Chirp Chirp)
"No! I don't want to get better at all if that means leaving you! I'll just live here in the human world. "
"I wish you'd stay with me forever."
She told him as she placed him against her cheek and cuddled him.
(*chirp)
"I will! " He sobbed
As he cuddled her back, someone knocked on the door.
"Coming!"
She said. She opened the door and found that it was a delivery man with a package she had recently ordered.
"Good day are you miss Stella Cornelo?"
"Yes that's me"
"So her name's Stella, such a lovely name." Tai-chi thought
" but…, whose he and why's he smiling with her!? "
He continuously interrupted them with loud chirping.
"Sorry, that's my canary, I don't know what's gotten into him, "
Stella told the man.
The Tai-chi had his eyes fixed on the delivery man and was very hostile toward him. As soon as the man looked at Tai-chi, he gave him a menacing look terrifying the man completely.
"I-it's fine it seems like he doesn't like me that much."
" I'll leave as soon as you sign here."
The man shakily said. Stella took the pen and signed her name on the dotted line.
" Here's your package and thank you for using our service have a great day."
The man said as he hurriedly took off down the hallway.
Stella looks at Tai-chi who had just stopped chirping.
"I wonder what got him so scared."
she thought.
"Anyway, "
she said as she opened the box revealing a transparent bird carrier.
"Now you can travel around with me safely and you don't have to be home all the time."
She said.
"I can be with you more? Yay!"
He Merrily chirped.
"I swear, sometimes I think you can understand me."
