Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Light

[Chapter 9: The Light]

The moment I reemerged to the surface, the Phoenix was nowhere to be seen, but I can still feel its mana distortion around the mountains. It's a vague feeling but I can still sense it.

Puru and I ran into the plains again, I saw the blast site of the Phoenix's attack from before.

I looked around and the Phoenix was not around "Where could they be?!" I said as I looked around worriedly

"Puru, can you track them down?" I looked at Puru and he circled around before he ran "Good boy!" I followed him to wherever he was going

we went inside a cave, I pulled the egg out of my shadow and placed it down at the center of the dead end cave "Why are we here Puru?" Puru rubbed his nose and laid down beside the egg

I sighed and looked outside, there's a storm brewing, powerful one. But how can a storm brew on a land of nothing but fire? "Zal-sama!"

I hid the egg again and took Puru with me to where they might be.

[Akina's POV] (Before Ygg got out of the Ravine)

Reinn disappeared from the last attack, Master and I tried to look for him but he cannot be found and cannot even be sensed by Master's advanced tracking magic.

Vincent-san on the other hand is staring at a wall as he engraves something on it, I asked him what it was "Calculations… the old master also thought me these menial things…" he placed a dot, and when I looked back at the engravements it was undecipherable.

They were from the human's country yet it was like of dwarven origin "What's this formula for?" I said as I stared at it unblinking

Vincent-san stood up and started walking out of our cave "if only I had foresight…" Vincent-san mumbled as he walked.

Master and I followed him "Where are we going, Vincent?" Master asked with a worried tone

Vincent-san then looked around "Let's go back to the mountain, but this time we'll stay at the ground… Yg-… Reinn's still alive, I'm sure of it. He'll be able to find us the moment we start the battle with the Phoenix" he said with a slight smirk on his face

we ran into the rocky plains again and saw the blast site, as we ran past by it Master sighed "I do sure hope he's okay" she said, we hopped over the boulders and into the back of the mountain.

The moment we arrived at the spot it was a lot more dangerous than the plains, but it might gives us an environmental advantage since there are rock spikes everywhere that's emerging out of the ground at random. We can tell when the next spike will pop out since the spot will steam and the magma cracks on it will become a little bit brighter than the rest.

We were standing on separate rock spikes when, Vincent-san threw his arm upwards and a fire ball shot out, it burst in a fiery ring that exudes magical aura that can effectively attract magical beasts. But something's weird with the magical aura pouring out of the lure.

It has the disgusting tint of the anti-holy magic. "Shadow?" I whispered under my breath but I might also be mistaken and it could just be that I felt his concentrated magical pool in a flash.

Not a moment too soon "There it is!!" Master pointed over the horizon and the cries of the phoenix has been heard, the temperature rose and the ground shot out rock spikes at all direction.

We were able to dodge it effortlessly, but the moment the Phoenix closed its gap at us. We might be in a bit of trouble "Lorana use ice-fire magic! You Brat! Try using your ice magic at the magma below so it doesn't kill us immediately" Master nodded and I did too

I waved my arms across, with the intention of freezing the whole place. I released the image out of my head and I felt like my mana pool was being sucked out dry.

The place froze over and the only place that was unaffected was underneath the Phoenix. It landed not so far away from us and a spike emerged in front of it.

We thought it would at least puncture its skin but the spike snapped the instance it made contact with the bird's feather

but before I could even notice it, a storm was brewing upon us blocking the harsh sun, or the light source of this huge layer of the labyrinth.

I summoned my sword of light and dashed towards the Phoenix, I closed the gap between us as it shot out fire beams at Master and Vincent-san. I hopped high towards its neck, but as I was about to slash, It screeched and sent me flying back towards everybody.

The impact paralyzed me for a moment but I used healing magic in advanced so I wasn't mortally injured.

I then sensed Master, she's gathering a huge amount of mana. Her palm over the other and at the center is the white orb that destroyed the cube last time.

"Master!" Master didn't look at me and just continued with her spell.

Vincent-san then sighed "I'll go defend us then…" he said as he raised his arm like he was pulling something heavy. The Phoenix continuously bombarding us with its fire balls, we didn't notice but he's also preparing to use that single advanced spell he has, but this time, it's even more powerful due to its sudden transformation.

An earth wall emerged in front of us, I didn't even realize that this material is usable with earth magic since it's already burnt and molten

I tried sharing my mana to Master as she prepares her spell, and the storm above us suddenly sent down a downpour of heavy rain and the lightning strikes were directed towards…. Vincent-san? He's absorbing the lightning like it was something he normally does.

The rain couldn't even reach the Phoenix since its heat immediately turned the rain water into steam.

The Phoenix screeched in a high pitch noise as it shot out its beam at us, Master and I covered our ears, but Vincent-san's unfazed, in fact he's timing the beam's impact. The beam melted through the hard wall and it almost crashed into Vincent-san, but the moment he flicked his finger lightning appeared.

The lightning made contact with the beam and it changed the beams course upwards "Impossible!" Master looked at Vincent-san with wide eyes in awe.

I also watched in awe, but as I turned my look at the Phoenix its color has changed back to the orangish flame hue.

The beam shot into the ceiling of the floor and burst in a fiery destruction

Master sighed as she laughed "We aren't gonna survive this one, are we?"

Vincent-san smiled "nope… unless he appears again"

right at that moment I felt disheartened that we were losing to a flaming bird! I clenched my fist and summoned my light sword again, I combined fire and ice into my blade, the unstable mix of the three elements seemed hard to control and could blow up at any moment… stabilized

my eyes gleamed of hope and I ran towards the Phoenix again "Lorana! Fire!" Vincent-san screamed at Master as they focus their mana in a single sphere

I dashed faster than before and closed the gap between us sooner than expected, I slashed my sword twice and it wounded the Phoenix, Master and Vincent-san shot their dual spell and blown the phoenix away "Yes!" Master said excitedly, not until

the storm disappeared and the light healed the Phoenix almost immediately. It screeched and flew back up as it prepares for its attack again "Run…" I whispered as I stared at it with wide eyes "RUN!!" I screamed as I ran away with them

the Phoenix shot its beam again and the outburst sent all of us flying, it was the same confrontation all over again, until.

A pair of footsteps walked past by me as I lay on the ground, I sat up and looked around, a boy with black hair and a distinct pair of eyes "R-Reinn!" I said as my eyes glimmer with hope, a wolf cub following him which reeked of shadow element. I had my suspicions but I just brushed it off

I stood up and helped Master standing up, Vincent-san sitting on a tall rock surveying the area of the plains of spikes "Reinn, you still have mana?" Vincent-san asked and Reinn nodded

Master smirked and revealed a small sphere with a condensed magical aura within it, it was the spell! I stared at it with wide eyes, I turn my glance back at the wounded Phoenix "This time we have a chance now!"

I said as I turn my look at Reinn and Vincent-san

we all prepared our weapons and magical attacks, Reinn summoned his flame steel sword and I summoned my light blade

Master condensing more mana in the sphere, and Vincent-san's preparing his ultimate ice-fire magic

Reinn and I dashed at the phoenix with our Master's attacks.
