Chapter 28: CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT : DREAD

Darryl left the Trader's Inn and collapsed to his knees. His entire body was trembling. "Did you feel that Vulcan?" Darryl muttered with his hands on the soaked pavement. It was a downpour outside his back was instantly drenched.

'You mean the pressure in the inn? There was something dark about that boy.' Vulcan responded in Darryl's head.

"No, it was more than that. I couldn't think. I felt like I didn't have free will and more than that I was afraid. Terry's eyes were black and empty, looking in them felt like I was looking into the abyss itself."

Vulcan was silent for a moment, 'I know you don't want to hear this, but the Trader's Inn every single time we went inside it was busy and filled with lives. We could go in the early morning or late at night or even the middle of the day. It didn't matter as whenever Liz was cooking the inn was packed.'

"Oh no." Darryl muttered, "They were all alone. You don't think he... is he that far gone?" Darryl slowly began to struggle to stand up it felt like he was drunk even though he didn't have one drink. "I need to get away from here," Darryl muttered as he slowly began to walk to the circle through the storm.

Roger patted his stomach and sighed happily, "I'm full."

Terry nodded his head and smiled, "Good." He reached his hand into his pocket reaching for something.

Roger eyed Terry for a moment, "There is something I need to ask you... Why did you make me wait outside for a bit before we came in here? I thought I was going to get rained on."

Terry shrugged pulling a handful of green glass beads out of his pocket, "I was just doing some cleaning."

"And your eyes are different. They don't have any color to them anymore. They're just black."

Terry shrugged again, "I mean I have the most powerful god of darkness inside me. It would make sense if my eyes would start turning black."

Roger nodded opening his hand letting a golden apple appear in his hand, "The circle wasn't all it was built up to be, was it?"

Terry looked at the apple for a moment and smiled, "It definitely wasn't."

Liz approached the table with a nervous look in her eye. "Is there anything else I can do for you?" She asked in a shaky voice.

Terry smiled, "Yeah. Could you get me a bag please?"

Liz walked away tears were in her eyes. She came back with a bag handing it to Terry. He thanked her and began putting the green beads from his pocket into the bag. He took more hand fulls out of his pocket and put them in the bag. Liz's face was ghost white as she watched him put the beads in the bag.

Terry's smile grew a bit wider for a moment his eyes focused on Liz, "I think we'll be going now." Terry reached his hand out, "Pathways." A black portal appeared around one of the tables causing it to shatter into little pieces.

Terry walked through the portal Roger followed behind him. The only trace of them being there was the destroyed table and empty plates. Liz slowly walked to an empty table and sat down her legs were shaking. "He's gone." She whispered to herself.

"Are you sure?" A voice sounded around her as she was enveloped in darkness. A massive eye appeared in front of her. "I don't think I need to warn you if you tell anyone what has happened here today. Do I?" The voice questioned.

Liz shook her head and looked down to the ground refusing to look into the eye. Just the mere seconds she looked into it made her heart race and her entire body feel cold. "Please just leave me alone." She said quietly.

The voice laughed which sounded like a distorted version of Terry's voice, "You don't have to worry about that. Now that we have that out of the way. Have a good day." The cold darkness instantly disappeared leaving her alone in her inn in a cold sweat. Liz remained still refusing to stand up from her table.

Bezel sat in the private room he had set up for Roger and Terry awaiting their return. A black portal appeared in front of him causing him to stand up to greet his master. Terry exited the portal first, Roger followed. "Hello, Bezel do you have a private room," Terry questioned.

"Yes my lord follow me." Bezel said leaving the room.

"You stay here," Terry said looking at Roger with a serious look in his eye.

Roger nodded his head and jumped up on the large bed.

Terry followed Bezel to the private room. They went down a few hallways, and then through a door that led down some stairs into the mansion's basement. Bezel closed the door behind Terry leaving him alone in the basement.

The basement was cold with stone unfinished flooring. There were no windows or lighting it was completely dark in the basement. Just the way Terry liked it. There was some dusty furniture scattered throughout the basement most notably an old red couch leaned up against the wall. Terry walked to the couch and sat down. When he sat down a cloud of dust spread through the air.

*cough* *cough*

Terry sighed after a few coughs and pulled a couple of glass beads out of his pocket. "I'm sorry guys but I need to build my army up somehow. I promise I'll make you all normal again someday." Terry said quietly looking into the small beads that held the souls of the people he had slain in the Trader's Inn.

"Rise," Terry said focusing on one of the beads. It began to glow a bright green light and then faded out of existence. A wailing scream echoed around the unfinished basement as a ghostly lich appeared with red eyes kneeling before Terry. "That's one."

He took another bead and repeated the process. "Rise."

Another lich bowed before Terry.

"Rise."

Another Lich.

"Rise."

Another Lich.

Terry continued until he got to the last bead in his pocket. "Aly," Terry whispered looking ahead. The room was filled with powerful liches all under his command. He focused on the bead harder than he did the other ones. In a flash, he was no longer sitting on the couch but standing in a green abyss. Aly stood in front of him.

"Hi, Terry," She said quietly.

"Hi, Aly," Terry responded.

"You've changed a lot haven't you?" She questioned.

"I had to. I had to do all this." Terry said quietly.

"I know. It's your nature." She said happily walking forward pressing her finger against his nose, "And I don't mind helping you. You can make me stronger than I ever was before. I... know how weak I was. You can change that."

"You're ok with..." Terry grew quiet.

"With you turning me into one of those things? Of course. As long as I get to lead them." She said happily taking her finger off of Terry's nose.

He smiled, "You haven't changed much."

"Not at all." Aly chirped.

Terry opened his eyes he was sitting on the old red couch, surrounded by liches all awaiting his command. He was still staring into the bead that held Aly's soul. "Rise," Terry said into the bead. Just like the others it glowed and disappeared into nothing, but instead of a scream, a gentle laugh resonated around the basement.

A ghostly form appeared in front of Terry that started as a monstrous lich but slowly changed becoming more human by the second. Aly stood with a smile looking down at Terry. "Am I in charge of the liches?" She asked happily.

"Of course," Terry said feeling surging darkness radiating from Aly's body.

"Thank you... my lord." She said happily as all the other liches rushed into her body as her eyes began to glow a bright violet.
