Chapter 65: City as prey

The memory of Famia that was sent into his mind when she died, the last one, last memory for today. The thing that no matter what, won't change my mind on signing it. When the explosion finally disappeared, we were in a castle, a big castle made of regular bricks. Red banners right on the walls, a throne in the middle. She standing right before it, a man sitting on the throne and surrounded by several pillars but no guards. The man, so old that his hair is completely grey. Scars on his face and green eyes with pupils like that of a snake.

"What are you here for?" He asked with a voice so strong that made a feeling as if the whole place was shaking.

"T-there was an assignment… From the adventure g-guild and I-I came here for more details…" I could see that in her face, she is incredibly scared, pale face, trying to avoid his gaze. It was a futile struggle as he wouldn't say anything if she wasn't looking directly at him. She was anxious and wasn't able to speak properly.

"There are many of those, specify." His voice was unyielding and she wasn't able to actually feel well while talking anymore, she is almost dying while talking with the nemesis of her master.

"Was that after your death?" I asked the fog that this time slightly got brighter and more translucent. I think his power is slowly fading, surely this is the last thing he will ever do. Talking to me.

"Slightly after, she was devastated but I was always telling her to keep going even after my death. I went through several generations and I've seen several generations dying. My own wife died in my hands, some of my friends, some of my children that weren't bestowed with enough power, that is 11… At least, but it might take a long time if they are lower than twelve, but not counting that. It's just very scary, it makes man lonely… Years of seeing people pass away, new life, then see that life pass again… That is a life of power… Loneliness, is scary." That makes everything sound really bad, the long lives of those powerful. That means… Most royalty is exactly like that. I hate them, I hate the existence of those people. I don't even know what to think about, what to actually do. "I know about your hate regarding royalty. And he, he is the royalty that deserves what you have in your head. In that very weird skull of yours, they deserve it, he does." Why does he deserve more than other royals? Even he, even he didn't care about the poor, he didn't care about the weak beside his family. He also… Deserves death, his children… All.

"What happened next." I coldly asked the man standing before me and he felt a little disgusted. Something very bizarre appeared on his foggy face…

"You are too far gone…" Where have I gone? What does he mean? Where have I gone… I am… Here. Standing before you, not going anywhere, not walking, running, moving…

"I was s-supposed to p-purge the plague around the graveyard. The g-goblin army there, or something like that." She was even more afraid at this point, her face pale and her clothes seemed to also lose their colors as he looked at her. Staring at that person with his almighty eyes.

"What's with your master? Why aren't doing those with him? And why are you taking something so easy?" Many questions spiked her body like icicles or needles. The pain surging inside her body, she held her heart with her hand.

"..." She did not answer. She was both too scared and second, she was just too anxious to tell him that he has died.

"Answer!" He stood up and all the big windows in the castle's main hall shattered into pieces. She was blown away hitting the gate that is around 50 meters away from where she was standing. When she got back up, her throat was shrinking and she started choking a little. But was able to pull through it.

"He… Died." She painfully answered, very painfully, and then regretted saying it. The man started laughing wickedly, loud and strong. The sound almost destroyed my eardrums, I wonder what happened to her eardrums but that thought was quickly answered as her ears started bleeding.

"He died! Finally! That old man died! Now… I can finally kill you! My revenge will begin now! Revenge of … … … The real me! Not the king of this damned place, now I can do it! I can kill everyone related to that demonic man! And it will start… With you and this whole city!" He screamed and when I looked at him, he instantly just appeared before her very eyes. He held her with his hand and snapped her neck, the sound didn't faze me at all. But he couldn't look, his face went to the left.

The man himself also from somewhere else, his name was also in a language I was not able to understand. A language was as old that even the man right next to me had a hard time understanding it. The man then left the castle, we also left and looked at him floating in the air and looking at all of the economies in the city.

"This is my city… The city I created from scratch. And he, his name in the world is Carl Mondon, I know the name is not intimidating, but he certainly is. One of the most powerful in the world at least to my knowledge." He looked down upon his own people with dread and anger. The man in the air created something in his hands and imbued it with his own blood, the spell changed into dark red and the small almost tears. Dropped down in the city while not being noticed by the citizens.

It touched the ground and a great cloud surrounded the whole city like a bomb of smoke. No light passed through the malice was just insinuating inside the soldiers and people residing in the city. Looked around themselves before they were killed in an instant. A painless death from a fog of dark red cloud, once it dismantled into oblivion. Then one thing I noticed… A scary one… How can a man make something so, excruciating to his own folk? When the last remnants of the fog lifted, all the people inside, all, children, women, men. Spikes made of dark red substance were coming out from inside of them and at the same moment, they were turned into stone. Stones resembling human beings with spikes coming out from their lungs, enlarged like a ball of spikes to the outside.

I looked at the man beside me, he showed the last parts of his humanity. The empathy to the people who were doing everything for him, loving him, just being a human being. And now, they think that the very same man killed them. Their souls, stricken by betrayal. Lingering inside of the white smooth clouds together with them being they believed to be their god. Their savior, the second man under whose wings they could hide.

And now, the man who lost it all, all the fate from his folk. Looks down on the bane created by his most hated rival, the person who he despised ever since he knew what time was.

The memory faded with the man still in the air, laughing. Goosebumps covered the entirety of my body making it very hard to actually pull through without fear.

"As you can see… This is the power of the man who I want dead. Just a small droplet of his power was able to eradicate this whole city… A city large as things you will still encounter on your journey." His lips lifted, the body went even brighter.

"Why are you in stride with him?" The question is very important to what I will have to accomplish. The man who I have to kill for revenge.

"He was… My good friend who got corrupted by the urge of power… He was the same as me but not in the mind of what we do, but how we do… This is not a story I can tell you now because of the circumstances, however, even in your state right now, when you are just too far gone, no matter what. I can tell you. From royalty, he is one of the worst. A man who would kill anyone just to accomplish more, devour souls for his own good…" His omniscient voice shivered and the particles he was made of went even brighter. His power is fading… He is deteriorating. "Do you agree?" He asked once again with a voice close to crying, the last emotion he can show in this state. Sadness.

"Yes," I answered, the man's face showed a nice and warm smile. The page appeared before my very eyes, I didn't even think about it anymore. A quill appeared next to the page.
