Chapter 36: Chapter #36
Zeno spent months adjusting the release of the undead energy to get the right zombies. After that he took his hands off that project, it was left on Souichirou's shoulders.
Souichirou was naturally very angry and upset that Zeno experimented on their fellow countryman but he understood the stakes.
So, he took up all the research notes and the remaining scientist alongside a living specimen and called for a meeting with the world's leaders.
The meeting was naturally done under wraps with the guise of a global warming meeting.
Zeno didn't bother to learn what happened there but he could guess from Souichirou's expression that the other countries may have overreacted as he hoped.
After all, the doomsday clock is ticking and they only had a couple months and they were rightfully furious to get such a short time limit while Japan was already ready.
While Souichirou dealt with war and nuke threats all over the world, Zeno sat on his comfortable chair and petted the house cat like the hidden boss he is.

Soon it was time for the cherry blossoms to shine and reveal their beauty to the world and the whole government was at full alert.
The military wanted to declare martial law and lock everyone up until everything was under control but somehow, somehow daily life wasn't obstructed.
[That's anime laws for you.] System exclaimed in amazement.
Indeed the system could sense some sort of power trying to make sure shit goes down according to the predetermined fate, but Zeno's existence made it near impossible.
So, the poor fate of this world could only make sure that the main cast would be at school. After all it wouldn't be Highschool of the Dead, if everyone was under lockdown.
Zeno couldn't help but agree with his Origin. He too had many bunkers made and had important people moved in, like scientists, Japan's best talents at every field and the families of the military personnel.
Yet, no matter how hard he tried he couldn't save the extras...
{That extras include your little sister as well.} Ouryuu said back.
'She is a heroine, of course she'll be out there. Also you're talking like I am not going towards her school as we speak.' Zeno snapped back.
Indeed Zeno was driving towards Saya's school with military convoys, he didn't need to be here since the military was going to extract everyone.
Still, he wanted to pick up Saya and Saeko personally instead of sending people to recover them.
[You're pretty sure of yourself that nothing will go wrong...] System said.
'Not everything would go down as I expected but I made adequate preparations for everything I can think of.' Zeno answered.
Soon the military vehicles stopped right in front of the school, Zeno could already see the zombie walking to the school gates.
Signaling his men, he ordered them to take it down while he took his time to wink at Takeshi who was watching the whole thing from the rooftops.
The guns the current JSDF uses were all upgraded by Zeno and used Biomass bullets made by him using Goldlight.
The bullets were a new addition made after Zeno tried consuming a zombie. The results made him glad that he didn't infect anyone with Goldlight so far.
The clash between his bloodline and the undead energy was too violent for a normal human to handle.
Turns out the source of this energy is on a similar level to his source of his immortality, it wouldn't kill him but he can't say the same about others who were infected with Goldlight.
'Thankfully I have yet to sleep with Saeko.' Zeno felt truly lucky, just imagining Saeko trashing on the ground in pain made him angry.
[We just need to consume more of them until we develop a natural resistance.] System calmed him down immediately.
Sighing Zeno opened his eyes again, just as the zombie died without a sound, only for the teachers at the gate to scream in return.
To them the poor zombie was a ruffian at best, seeing him getting headshotted was brutal for them.
The soldiers were quick to shut them up and state their mission to escort the people in the school to a safe bunker.
Zeno's face palmed when he saw the coach ask for identification. On the rooftops Takashi bolted right after he saw the military shooting people.
Meanwhile Kyouko was calling the principal to announce the evacuation through the PA. Too bad she was barely able to speak due to crying.
"Make the announcement sound like a regular drill. That would stop them from panicking." Zeno said to the hysterical teacher.
"Then some students won't take it seriously." Kyouko said in between sobs.
"Well, it is their problem." Zeno shrugged.
"Who the hell are you to give out orders shorty! You don't look older than my students." Coach rudely interjected.
"That's General Takagi to you. We already evacuated all the people we needed. I am not going to waste my men on extras." Zeno shut the man up.
Well, it was not just the coach that had gone silent, the rest of the teachers too went silent after hearing Zeno.
Some looked towards the soldiers that were slowly killing the zombies approaching in hope.
Yet those hopes were crushed when they realized the soldiers were not even glancing at them.
"Just follow orders, it was annoying enough that we couldn't declare martial law." Zeno sighed.
Coach opened the gates of the school, allowing the soldiers to enter and quickly reinforce the gate. Zeno needed to find his sister after all.
The PA announcement went through at that time, alerting the whole school.
Soldiers hastened their efforts of reinforcing the gates since PA was loud enough that some stranglers might be attracted.
"Sir, what do we do with the corpses?" One of the soldiers approached him.
"Pile them up, I still have a use for them." Zeno ordered while gazing at the students leaving the school in orderly lines.
The soldiers that he brought with himself were all in the know about his identity, Zeno didn't have to hide. Then again with the current state of the world, he didn't have to hide at all.
Deciding to ease up his soldiers Zeno just used his biomass to cover the whole gate while making spots for the soldiers to shoot from.
"*Unintelligible Screams*" Naturally the teachers got scared a second time.
'Hehe Never gets old.' Zeno chuckled.
