Chapter 2: No job lasts forever

bright sunlight entered her room. she squirmed around before pulling a pillow to her eyes. sleep settling back in. but not for long. as this time birds started to chirp in her ears and her bed started to vibrate.

"now even birds can not let me sleep in peace" she groaned in her pillow.

this time she pressed the pillow to her ears. the sound stopped for a minute before birds started to chirp again. she set back up jumping up on her bed. she looked at the blinding light entering from the window hit her as she looked towards it with eyes half open. she yawned opening her mouth as wide as a dinosaur's. the world felt so still not even a tree leave moving. that is when the realization hit her there were no birds around.

'then where was this sound coming from' she thought to herself.

the bed beneath her started to vibrate once again she moved aside from that spot and laughed at the sight in front of her for being so stupid. it was her phone. and it was just an alarm going on.

"alarm" she screamed in horror as she picked her phone and her eyes went to the time it was already 8:00, and she had to reach their till 8:30.

She stood up from bed in hurry and stopped as her head swayed for am moment. the events from last night cam in her head and she wondered if it was all a dream.

'I cant be late' she kept on saying it to herself. she got fresh, changed into a white button down shirt, black formal jacket and pants. She tied her hazel brown hairs in a high ponytail with a black hair tie.

she opened the fridge of her kitchen and to her horrors she found it empty. her stomach growled and she made a self note to buy coffee on her way and then she remembered she does not even know any cafes nearby.

sighing She went over to the shoe rack to get her heels as she picked them up she found that they were broken,

" I guess it really happened"She spoke to herself accepting the reality it was not a dream she decided not to think more about it and just start a new day with a new job.

none the less she wore her sneakers before Drinking a box of apple juice which she had luckily brought with her. slinging her beige colored primark purse on her shoulder; she left for the office in her car.

It took her 15 min after driving the car on its full limit to reach the office. she stared at the building ahead of her. The building only had three floors, three windows on each floor. it wasn't a very new building. it was painted grey and looked like a usual office building. shrubs lined outside the building. the door of the building was of transparent glass where a guard in police uniform stood bored.

'it was going to be a unique adventure' she thought to herself She parked her car in front of the trees and got out, the door slammed behind her.

She nervously walked in the building when a middle aged guard stopped her".your ID card" he spoke while looking at her from up to down. he was a bulky man. double chin laced his face his eyes bored. tiny beard covered his chin.

' what ID card'she thought to herself "your ID CARD ma'am" the guard spoke with annoyance "uh...sir I am new here , I don't have my ID card yet" she stammered. Was she going to be kicked out before she even went inside on her first day. she thought to herself.

The phone behind the guard rang, he picked it up and after a short silence he said "yes sir" on the phone." go straight to the office on second floor." he commanded her.

She nervously moved up the stairs hesitantly. her ponytail swayed behind her. the building was not as bad from the outside. it had good interior. the stairs were wooden with small circle LED's overhead. she reached the second floor. as instructed. It was a very crowded floor, everyone was engrossed in their works on their own desks. she looked around There was no room that said office she was confused and decided to ask someone

"excuse me" she asked a girl with blonde hair and shocking pink classy suit.

"yes" she turned around in annoyance. she hand an almond shaped face, plump lips covered in gloss, her eyes buried in heavy mascara.

"um...do you know where the office is" she politely asked.

"there" she pointed at the room in corner

"thanks" she mumbled and left

She knocked at the door and a heavy voice answered "come in"

she opened the brown wooden door and went inside the big room there were shelves all around the room filled with different colored files and in the middle was a glass desk that was pretty big for a normal desk ; there was an office chair facing the window that looked at the other buildings in fron of this office. The chair swiveled around and a healthy old man was sitting on it. his grey hairs brushed back. wrinkles formed around his eyes which looked tired. his lips pulled up in a small welcoming smile.

" have a seat" he offered ." Sarah connor am I right." she nodded and as she pulled out the chair before sitting on the chair in front of the table that faced the old man.

"yes sir....?' she replied to his question before looking blank at his face as she found gherself unable to recall his name.

"harry" he relpied to sarah with a light chuckle.

" you came to Canada last night didn't you"

She was suddenly reminded of last nights incident at his question" yes" she nodded politely

" you didn't have to come so early in the morning"

"no sir i am used to waking up early" she lied not wanting to put a bad impression on her new boss.

"i heard you specialized in advertisement and marketing"he commented as he flipped pages of a thin orange file which she guessed was hers.

"yes sir i did "

"i hope our marketing department will be benefited by your skills"

"i will try my best sir"

"anyways you will be sitting on desk number 24 with Liza and Annie its on this floor by the way".he instructed her.

"thank you sir" she went out of the office with her head high and trying her best to feel and stay confident.

The girl from before came with another girl in her view catching her attention. "are you the new employee" she asked "yep" Sarah answered .

"So you are the girl who would be sitting with us" she spoke.

"if you are Annie and Liza then yeah"

"Hi i am Annie" the girl from behind came and shook Sarah's hand excitedly until Liza gave her a cold stare and Annie backed off immediately. she looked a bit older that her. she wore a light blue pencil skirt under white button down shirt. her hair in a ponytail behind her.

"whatever you will be siting on that desk by the window" liza rolled her eyes at sarah.

"The other two are ours" Annie spoke from behind and was made quiet again

Sarah confidently made her way to the desk by the window and peeked outside . she was in awe with the view . there was a laptop on the desk and it was completely empty;she planned to decorate that desk as well.

1 week later

thump!

Liza threw the pile of files in front of Sarah, who was busy listening to BTS on her headphones lost in her own world. she looked up to Liza with complete annoyance, who was chewing gum fiercely

" what"

"sir says you have to work on these,all of them"she rolled her eyes at sarah. sarah hated it when liza did this.

"fine I don't have any problem with that but can't you just place them properly instead of throwing them'

"no i cant" she simply said and turned her back to Sarah as she sashayed away in her crisp radiant orange suit with a pint t shirt inside. She wore 3 inch high heels. her hair blond curled hair moved along with her. Sarah hated this girl so much. one week in this offfice and she was already friends with everyone except her. she just annoyed the hell out of Sarah.

"ugghhhh!" she groaned back and started to work turning the headphones volume high

after a while someone knocked on her desk and she looked up to see Annie, standing beside her in her pink shirt and blue jeans. her hairs yet again in ponytail. she could not help but admire the latter's beauty. he perfect features with milky white skin. Sarah looked at her in awe before turning her headphone's volume down .

"umm...do you need help with it" she spoke staring at the big pile of files

"you are an angel Annie" Sarah spoke with relief

they worked on it together until it was finished

1 month later

SARAH

thump! she was woken up from her deep slumber due to the sound created by heavy pile of papers that were stomped on her desk by Liza.

"don't you know how to place things quietly; can't you see i am sleeping" she spoke while stretching out her arms and yawning.

"then wake up sleepy head and work on these papers" Liza stood beside her desk in an orange crop top and blue jeans. her blonde hair pulled up in a bun. a little less natural than usual covered her face. from her one month here she had got to know Liza a bit more and one thing was sure she was not what she showed. there was something that was deeply disturbing her. she needed this job to prove to her parents.she was rude to anyone who she thought threatened her position and Sarah was apparently in that list. she related a bit to liza and she found it difficult to actually hate this girl but the fact that she was equally irritated by this girl was no secret.

"where is Annie" She looked around to find the other girl she had made friends with.

"you have to work on them alone" liza knew that Sarah was getting help from annie to do her work. they both helped each other.

"why, where is Annie" she looks around trying to find her.

"she is been fired and soon we all will be fired" she almost screamed at sarah.

"what the hell are you blabbering about " she mumbled

"this" Liza took her laptop and started to type something. as soon as she turned the laptop towards Sarah her eyes opened up like plates. and her mouth hung open.

'Phillip and co fires its employees as the company starts to fall and nears its end'

She was in shock and turned to the pile of paper and gulped she could see her future painted right in front of her at this moment.

"oh that is not all" Liza mocked her as she scrolled down.

another article was now in front of her eyes.

'Howard corps buys Phillip and co and new plans for better business in process'

she was shook as she silently whispered it to herself. she knew what happened when such merger deals happen. the new company's least concerns is the employees. chances of employees getting eliminated were high.

Screeching voice came from the speaker grabbing our attention; it announced: "ladies and gentlemen with heavy heart i am announcing this". the voice stopped for a second and started again it was someone else's voice this time "we will be closing down at the end of the week. we were as much not ready for this as you, but our financial crisis that you are aware of has lead us to this. We want you to gather up your stuff and clear your desks as soon as possible.you will be paid your rightful salary by the end of the week".

She was in shock she didn't expect this to happen this early. She took out an empty carton box and started to take of the BTS stickers she had placed on her desk with a heavy heart. she added her headphones and her pen holder in the box too. Tears gathered in her eyes and blurred her vision.

"you are called to the office" Liza came behind her rolling her eyes

She quickly cleaned up her tears and went straight to the office

"may I come in" she asked

"you may " a voice spoke from inside.

She went in and saw her boss Mr harry working on his extra large glass table.

"here take this" he pointed at an envelope not looking up "your salary"

She picked it up her lips curving into a smile she started counting , she counted twice.

"b..but this is just the half of what I was promised" she complained

"well you just started working in the office its not even been a month" he said without even looking up.

"excuse me sir but I really worked hard I worked endless nights to complete the assignments that I was burdened with I didn't spend sleepless night just to get half salary I want my full salary that I deserve" she gasped.

"well this is the salary you deserve take it and be thankful "

"I worked here to get the salary I deserved and the salary that I was promised not the beggars part" she snapped and threw the envelope on his desk and banged the door behind her.

She went straight downstairs in her car not looking left nor looking right she was angry and frustrated. she felt like crying. She was trying her best to press down her tears.
