Chapter 39: 39

With the high-level Hydra leader apprehended, Steve and a select few were able to systematically dismantle the Hydra organization in America. With Lilly's monitoring capabilities, they were also able to target and eliminate other branches of Hydra around the world that used open networks for their operations. Fortunately, Hydra's use of mutants in unethical experiments put them squarely under Steve's jurisdiction, although they did push their luck by using his authority in other countries. Ultimately, it was Steve's connection to the Gods that gave him an edge over these powerful enemies.
As more mutants joined their cause and trained, then went to the temple, perfecting their abilities, the island thrived. Hank even managed to create a state-of-the-art blackbird spacecraft that could travel into space, equipped with ports in place of buky weapons, for powerful mutants to assist in missions. This was mainly used for resource-gathering purposes, but Joel knew it would soon have other important tasks.
The year 1987 passed relatively uneventfully... well, except for one major development. While relaxing in my garden, Lil Lilly sent me a message announcing the completion of the Sentry Serum breakdown. Without hesitation, I made my way to my lab.
Standing before my computer screen, I perused the results of the serum analysis. To no surprise, reality-warping abilities and a connection to solar and lunar dimensions were confirmed. It seemed their earlier speculations about our subject were correct after all. His power stemmed from his unwavering belief and faith.
Upon closer inspection, it appeared that his reality-warping powers were initially limited to a smaller range but with practice and time could rival those of Scarlett Witch herself. "How should this serum be administered?" I asked Lil Lilly, eager for her expertise.
"Drinking it would be the least efficient method, followed by injecting it directly into the bloodstream," she responded coolly. "But the most effective way would be to atomize it within a closed system and allow the body to absorb it while also exposing the subject to minor doses of gamma radiation. Even if it proves fatal, the body will come back stronger... a win-win situation." Her laughter was almost tangible.
"There is something else you should consider," Lilly's more mature voice chimed in, easily distinguishable from Lil Lilly's. With any luck, this would be the final upgrade I needed to fully protect what was mine. My goal was not ultimate power, just enough to secure my territory and loved ones.
Lilly came over to assist me in preparing for the dose. She seemed content with her life, having been busy sending probes out into other planets and asteroids to gather resources. As she explored further and expanded her knowledge, she admitted that it was becoming slightly addictive.
Soon enough, I found myself sealed within a tube with gamma emitters surrounding me. To allow the mist form of the serum to enter my body, I needed to create tiny pores on my skin. This proved to be quite uncomfortable as I felt an intense itching sensation every time the gamma emitter flashed. But gradually, I could feel a surge of energy as the solar power coursed through every cell in my body. It was at this point that Lilly spoke up again.
"As I suspected, your physical abilities are originally Kryptonian. Your cells are designed to thrive under solar radiation, but due to varying laws across different universes, you may not have felt its full effects. However, by directly connecting you to a million suns in another dimension that aligns perfectly with our universe's laws, we can unleash your full potential."
I grunt then make an effort to speak, "So I am Superman now?"
"Oh no, your body will be a fully powered Doomsday, you will have the powers of Sentry added to your existing powerset. I think you will forever have an unkillable, perfectly invulnerable body, unlike some gods who give it up believing it to be a weakness, yours will be as powerful as your other godly powers."
I nod to her as I feel no pain, just more power as each cell absorbs a vast amount of energy, then bursts, a new one is created with resistance to the energy and begins to store more.
As the treatment comes to an end I exit, I can feel my paragon force has vastly improved, this should help Eve with the finishing touches on my afterlife realm. Some have already entered it, apparently, you do not need to fully worship a god to be their follower, just basic belief is all that is needed, the other god's followers enter my afterlife as well, although I notice a lot of them are male.
I also notice I have become aware of almost everything I even slightly focus on, regardless of how far it is, and by focus, I do not mean my sight, although right now I would not be surprised if my sight did see the other side. I mean just thinking about something makes me understand its current situation.
I can feel myself growing more powerful as more energy enters my body, to others it might look like I was surrounded by golden flames but they were not harming me, and as long as I wanted it, they would not harm anything else either.
Since I gained speed I was testing and monitoring vibrations, and with my perception, I became aware of them, well barely aware of overlapping vibrations, and normally this is all someone would be aware of, but I had seen these before, and if shaped just right, these would lead you to another world.
And that was the eventless 1987, boring by many people's standards.
Early 1988 we made sure we had a few blackbirds in space doing regular patrols.
After over a year of dreams, a plant appeared on the Moon, in the lower caste area, something they kept hidden from the upper caste. They have seen this in their dreams, it leads to a better life. They sent a few of their strong through the portal, and within one day they returned with large amounts of good food and news that the dreams were dreams of the future. The land was a land where real gods lived and cared for all their people.
Many wanted to leave, but if they did it would harm others' chances. So they planned, and agreed. They would prepare everyone who wanted to leave, those who could not be trusted were not needed. Then one day they would cause a massive distraction, and all those who wanted to would leave.
They worried about being perused by had heard the All-Father and Goddess Gia could stop anyone's powers from working in God's realm, and facing the upper caste without powers is something they had wished for.
Although Joel would say he was trying to be nice and give the Rulers a chance to fix their issues, something that could never happen as they never had resources, he gave the king and queen dreams of one day walking up and finding their people gone. After a long search, they would find a plant that became a portal. Once they gathered and entered they found their people, living content lives with their genetic defects fixed. When they attempted to cause a scene their powers vanished and a massive plant goddess struck them down. The king and queen's dreams ended there and occurred only once.
As far as Joel was concerned that was warning enough.
Gia was made aware and made many more residences, not much of an issue since as Joel's power grew so did his realm, and this led to Gia becoming more powerful. She was one of the only goddesses who indirectly grew more powerful as Joel did, leading to the island's defense becoming more powerful as well.
