Chapter 1: No Place For The Supernatural
It was a rainy night, in the car a little eight-year-old gir, Perfida Spyro, light strawberry brown long hair, light pink almond eyes wearing a baby blue pajamas, she was sleeping at the backseat beside her older twin sister Perdita, long strawberry blonde hair with dark golden eyes round eyes wearing a blush pink pajamas, they were leaning toward each other. The father, Apollo Spyro, late thirtes with blonde hair with brown eyes wearing a white shirt and cargo pants with sneaker, he was driving but more like speeding like he was in a hurry or something in the middle of a rural area where there's nothing but trees then the road got bumpy which woke Perdita up, she opened her eyes then lift her head up, her vision was blurry then as it focused she saw Apollo was driving in the middle of the night then it her, that was in the car all along but Perdita was sleep in deep sleep. It was still a bumpy ride and the rain was pouring harder in a minute, "Daddy, where are we going? ", Perdita asked with her little soft voice then she let out a light yawn then saw a big lightening, she felt worried and scared.
"I'll tell you when we're there, honey", their dad said and kept his eyes on the road, "don't worry about it, just go back to sleep". Their dad was trying to call someone but they didn't answer and he was getting irritated and dropped his phone which made Perfida woke up from her deep sleep, she slowly put her head up from Perdita's small shoulder then she looked around and recognized that she was inside their family car. The father was looking at the rear view mirror and saw that there was someone following them, they were in a middle of a car chase.
"Huh? what's going on?", Perfida asked them, "where are we?", Perdita gave a shrug on the shoulder, Perfida still looked drowsy and Apollo tried to call someone but no one was answering but he was driving in the heavy rain so didn't bother trying and Perdita noticed it but the wind blew stronger and the rainfall seemed like it was splashing itself to the car. The car behind them were still on their tail then someone, the father was doing his best to get away but he has two daughter's safety to think of. All of a sudden, there was a white butterfly appeared inside the car and the twins saw it. Perfida looked confuse but Perdita was in awe by how the butterfly looked so beautiful then tried to touch but it flew away to the back so Perdita was standing on the car seat and then turned to the back and saw the butterfly again, Perdita was reaching to get it and Perfida was just watching her. Apollo caught Perdita standing up from the seat then he turned to them so his eyes was off the road. Another car was coming at them up ahead, he was counter flowing so they were about to be head-to-head at each other but Apollo was still focused at Perdita and trying to see the car behind them.
"Perdita! sit down!", Apollo scolded at her.
"Dad! look over there!", Perfida called her dad's attention then pointed to the road. The driver in front of them was honking to get Apollo's attention.
"What!?", Apollo exclaimed as he turned back to the road and saw the the car yet the headlight blinded him thats when he quickly hit the breaks but it was still moving so the car just keep sliding on the wet road then it was spinning. The twins were screaming and Apollo tried to get back control of the car then eventually he did and just drove straight away. Someone came out of the left side window at the driver seat, he had a gun aiming at them and started shooting, "Girls! get down!", Apollo shouted at them, the twins bent down, covered their heads as the guy started shooting at them. Apollo pulled up at the car window and aim the gun at them and started shooting back but unfortunately the guy shoot Apollo on the chest so he then he decided to get inside again to drive away instead with a gunshot on his body, the girls didn't know that he was hit since they were still ducked down. The driver who was chasing them stopped shooting too and went inside car, Perdita noticed there were no shooting so she stood up again on the seat and want to see what was going on but Perfida was still bent down then another guy came out of the car window at the right side and then began shooting at then shoot the front right wheel so then it burst and Apollo lose control again. Suddenly, their car swerve off the road and turned to the hill where there were more trees, Perdita immediately grab hold on to the seat as she was still standing. The father can't drove back to the road and so the car uncontrollably was sliding off the hill then it hit one tree off to another and car parts were coming of from every hit, Apollo tried to get control and the girls were screaming their heads off then the car stopped on a flat grassy ground then it stopped in the middle of a forest but the father hit his head hard until it cracked on the stirring wheel, Perfida bumped her head behind the front seat of Apollo's and Perdita was thrown off from the impact and hit through the glass window and her body landed and laid on the car hood. Perfida was laid on the back seat after bumping her head then bounced back to her seat and she laid there with her head feeling spinny then it got a little blurry.
"Dad? Perdy?", Perfida called with a husky voice but then started whimpering because her body hurt so much that now she can't say utter anything. Hours later, Perfida, still on the car seat, she felt like there was someone pointing a flashlight at her so she peaked to see what it was but it was too bright that it made her carefully and slowly opened them, she can still somehow see but not perfectly as it used too, she saw the light through the broken glass car window coming towards them then she saw a human sillhouette figure appeared, and it was walking to the light but as it was about to go, it turned to look at her but she couldn't see a face, it was all black. As she was staring at this light, her eyes were hurting and there were light beams going itself in her eyes, Perfida was seeing this beams coming to her but she didn't feel anything, the figure turned around and continued walking then slowling fading away. The light was starting to get smaller and smaller until it was gone, Perfida couldn't tell what it was and she was lying there trying to move and Perdita was still out of it to know what just happened.
Hours later, Perfida was still in a verge of not able to do anything to help herself because of her condition due to the accident. Suddenly, there were rustling footsteps and Perfida heard this, she felt so anxious knowing it could be a wild animal that could hurt her or it might be people that might save her or not. The footsteps were getting louder which meant it was getting closer to them. Two people who were chasing them earlier were back and found the family, they were wearing long black cloaks with a hood covering their faces except their mouth and gold vest with weird line drawings on it, they stood by the car and saw the damage. Perfida sensed someone was there, she heard their breathing, she kept quiet afraid it must be dangerous. The two men were at the side of the doorless car and found Perfida lying there on the passenger seat, they cast a shadow at her and Perfida was getting more scared, they saw that the father was dead then at the girl but they seem to be more interested at Perfida. "He's gone, so let's take this one", said leader, "get his phone!", Perfida heard that raspy man voice and was shock that her father was really gone and that they will take her.
"Yes, father", the henchman said, Perfida was listening but she doesn't really understand what they were saying. A cloakman held Perfida's head with both hands and gently turned upward to see her face, Perfida look at him and she felt so terrified, she wasn't able to see the guy's face, it was dark, it was like she was found by a boogeyman then tears coming out of her eyes because something bad will happen while the henchman found the father's phone by the pedals so he took it and put it in his pocket.
"Shhh.. don't cry my child, we'll take good care of you", the leader smirked, "so young, so pure, so innocent and so beautiful".
"She is perfect", the henchman agreed.
"Let's take her to the abandoned house we saw a mile from here and tell our our lady to meet us there", the leader pulled Perfida out of the car and then lift her at his threshold, she was panicking and screaming to let her go.
"Yes, father", the henchman said, they started walking with Perfida. Perdita suddenly woke up and found herself on the headboard of the car then to her horror, she saw her father with his head on the stirring wheel and she couldn't tell that he's gone and then she noticed her sister was not there, she looked around for her then looked straight away that there was a couple of men took her.
"Dad!", she shouted to him, "they're taking Perfida away!", but he doesn't respond, she quickly got off from the hood of the car and ran to them. "Hey!", she shouted at them, but the cloakmen didn't hear her. They got to their car and Perdita recognized the car that was after them earlier so she knows that these guys are bad news, she tried to push them but her hands went through their bodies like hologram, she was taken aback, " Oh no! no! no!", she cried, then she swung her arms at them but to no avail then the cloakmen carefully laid Perfida at the passenger seat then they both went to the front and the henchman was going to drive, "Patch! Patch!", she cried again then they drove leaving Perdita by herself in the middle of the road. She felt like a failure and dropped to her knees and started feeling so lonely in the woods at middle of the night. Perdita stood at the road then a car was coming at her and it was speeding the driver gasped as he saw her and was about to hit her.
"Oh shit!", the driver reacted, Perdita was too stunned to move. The driver immediately hit the brakes but the car was still moving and the tires were screeching from the friction. Perdita squat down and closed her eyes and so did the driver her as he was about to hit her. The car didn't hit her but instead it got through her like hologram but Perdita didn't see that and touched herself to make sure if she was okay then she quicky ran back to the hill to avoid another car. "Oh God! what was that!?", the driver freaked, he opened his eyes and noticed like nothing had happened, "did I just kill her? I'll just get out to see if she's okay", he took a flashlight and got out of the car then he looked at the road and saw no blood then he walked to the front of the car and nothing too, no blood or bump. The driver scratched his head, "I could've sworn there was someone there", he started walking further to see if there was someone there then his phone rang so he picked it up, "hello.. yes, honey, I'm on my way home", then puts down his phone and put it back in his pocket then decided to walk back to his car, "I must be seeing things, if there was somebody there, they'd confront me for almost killing them", he ran back to his car and went inside then he drove off. Perdita saw the car drove away, she began wonder about what happened, why couldn't she be seen, heard or touch? she ran back down the hill but then she got clumsy as she tripped and rolled down the hill, once she got down and landed on her back, she realized that she doesn't feel any pain from that fall, she shook it off then ran to the car,
"Dad! they took Perfida", Perdita panicked, then she got inside and stood up the carseat, "dad! wake up! they took Perfida!", she was about to shake him but her hands just went through him again, she gasped in disbelief and swung her hands at him and the result was the same, she panted when she looked at her hands after that she slowly turned her head over at the carhood, nothing can prepare to what she saw, her dead body. Perdita's eyes looked like it was about to pop out then she screamed her lung off in the woods until birds flew away.
The cloakmen arrived at this abandoned house, it was dark and the old furnitures were covered with white cloth, "I'll go up and find a room for her, you go find us something to eat and candles too", the leader ordered, carrying Perfida like a baby and she was disgusted as she saw the place looked like a haunted house.
"Alright, father", the henchman replied then left them.
"Now, let's go find a room for you to rest", the leader said to Perfida, they got up to the second floor and there were four rooms, he picked the one farthest from the stairs. The leader entered the room, it was way darker than it was downstairs but the moonlight gave little light to it and there was bed but it was also cover by a white cloth but Perfida doesn't seem to be happy about, "this will do", he said to her, he put her down on the bed then looked at her firmly, "I'll be back and don't try to escape, you got that?", he put his finger to her face and Perfida nodded at him, he smiled and said, "good" and got out of the room. Perfida gulped alone in a dark room held hostage by two strangers, she still can't move so escaping was futile. The leader returned with a toolbox in his hands and stood by the window, he took out a hammer and a rope in the other, he dropped the rope aside then he walked to the window and nailed shut. The leader tied her hands at the wooden head board then pulled out be handkerchief to cover her mouth, he got closer to her face and gave a menacing look, "remember, be a good girl and be quiet or else...", he took a gun out from his pocket and pointed it on her head and mouthed a gunshot sound, Perfida understood that this is not a joking situation so she nodded her head in response, the leader stood up and walked out of the room and shut the door close. The leader went back down and sat on a chair, he took his phone and dialed a number then placed it on his ear, someone answered the call, "Hello! my lady, we got you fresh blood to suck".
"Thank you, my child, I can't wait to see her", the lady said,
"We're here at an abandoned house by Route 13", he informed her, then he puts down then phone and smiled. Later, Perfida was still awake and lying on the bed and felt that this was the worse thing that happened in her life then she remembered her father died and she doesn't know what happened to Perdita, her heart started to pound so fast fearing what could possibly can they do to her but also asking herself why was this happening to her, what does this all mean? questions just adding up in her head about her situation and all she can do now was just staring at the moon but what she doesn't know there was somthing that was watching her, she felt it but her state was much more worse that thinking something that was not human was there. Eventually, she fell asleep with her face all wet from crying, the room got cold so she was shivering, she wasn't given any blanket to cover herself. The leader was at the back of the house, he was holding their father's phone and threw it on the ground and shoot it with his gun then he went back inside, the henchmen was leisurely drinking alcohol and eating snacks all of a sudden there was a thud sound coming from upstairs, the two almost jumped from their seats then the leader asked, "did you hear that?".
"Yeah", the henchman confirmed then there was another thud, the leader looked angry.
"I thought I told that brat not to escape, let's teach her a lesson", the leader groaned then took out his gun and so did the henchman, they ran upstairs and barged in Perfida's room but they saw her sleeping and her hands were still tied, she woke up and was shocked and confuse to see the two of them were aiming a gun at them since she hadn't done anything yet. The leader walked to her and took a closer look at the rope and it doesn't seem that she tried to loosen it, "it's not her, and you, go back to sleep", he said firmly and calmly at her. Perfida followed and rest her head then closed her eyes.
"Maybe she just tossed and turned", the henchman whispered at the leader.
"It could be", the leader replied then put the gun in his pocket, then they heard another thud from downstair and it seem like they were not alone so he told the henchman, "stay here and keep an eye on her", and the henchman nodded. The leader took out his gun again and got out of the room and ran back down but no one was there, he went outside to see if he might caught up to this intruder, then he went around to see if this person was hiding but nothing seem out of place. Later, the leader went back up and saw the henchman standing beside the bed playing with his gun and looked at him.
"See anything?", the henchman asked.
"No, the bastard must've ran off", the leader answered.
"I think this house is just old, that's why it's making sound", the henchman said but the leader doesn't seem to be convinced by that theory but he knew that there was no other way to explain where the sounds where coming from.
"Let's just sleep outside the room, to gaurd her", the leader demanded.
"Yes, father", the henchman followed, they did sleep on the floor right outside Perfida's room. Perfida actually couldn't sleep after that, then a black smoke appeared floating around the corner and was watching her like fresh meat.
The next day very early in the morning that the sun was barely rising, back at the Route 13, the driver was driving again at that rural freeway then he was getting nearer at the accident and along the way, he noticed weird tire marks on the road like whatever it was, it seem a vehicle had gone wild. The driver just kept moving but the tracks ended in a much weirder way like it drove off the road yet it did, his guts felt something doesn't seem right and told him to stop to what was going on, he then pulled over at the side and got out of the car, he followed the tracks by foot and felt very uneasy about it but just kept walking until he reached the end of the tire tracks. The driver then saw that the tracks did not end there, it continued off road from cemented road to a grassy ground with the same tire marks were continuing, his eyes were following the track up to down the hill and saw the car crash, "Oh my God!", he reacted, his mouth dropped and his eyes widened, he ran down the hill to see if there was anyone needing any help, but once he got to the very damaged car, the driver saw Perdita's and father's lifeless body, he gasped in horror then he took out his phone and began dialing, "hey! man, come here right now by the Route 13, there was a car crash and bring back up too", He got closer and then he saw felt something familiar about Perdita and it did, he suddenly remembered that she was the girl that he thought he saw and hit last night and that she was actually dead. Police and investigator arrived at the scene of the crash, they started taping the area and taking pictures at every angle .
"What happened here?", the chief asked.
"A friend of mine saw this on his way to work", a policeman said to the chief pointing at the car, "and found two bodies of a father and daughter".
"Are they okay?", the chief asked.
"Unfortunately, they're gone", the police answered.
Oh my...", the chief cringed just looking at the damaged.
"Yeah, at first we thought it was a sheer accident until we saw bullet holes at the car", the police explained then showed it to him.
"We found a wallet!", a police interrupted loudly then ran toward at them, "there might be an ID to atleast know he's name", he opened it and saw a wallet size photo of him and the twins smiling and they were at a park so he took it out.
"Wait... are they twins?", the police noticed then he turn around and there was a writing, 'my favourite pair', "they are!".
"So where's the other one?", the chief asked.
"Maybe she wasn't with them when this happened", the other police thought.
"Hopefully not", the first police hoped and then he saw a business card in the wallet behind where they found the photo and read it, "Apollo Spyro, private investigator?". Perdita suddenly appeared hiding behind a tree, so she walked to them and she seem to have learned that she was just some unseen being coexisting among the living, she saw policemen surrounding her father's car then she saw two stretchers fully covered in white cloth, one of them had an arm came out on it, Perdita recognized the sleeve it wearing because it was her dead body was in there still wearing her pajama. The bodies were carried to a van so then Perdita decided to follow where her body will be taken so than staying in a forest alone as spirit so she ran to the van and climb inside then it drove off not knowing her soul was with them.
Back in the abandoned house, Perfida was awake and sat up on her bed with her hands still tied on the headboard, her body still felt sore like she had a hell of a workout last night and she looked messier than she did before in the accident, her pajama was dirty from the dusty cloth she was sleeping, she was sweating because the sun was aiming at her through the window and her hair was so unkempt plus she was hungry then the leader barge in the room, "good, you're awake, I have to feed you before meeting our lady so you better behave", the leader said to her but she just kept silent and nodded her head, he untied her from the headboard but not her hands and carried her downstairs. The henchman was at the dining area eating while watching something on his phone, the leader put Perfida in a chair and sat beside and untied the hankerchief on her mouth and put it aside then grabbed her jaw so that her mouth would open but Perfida felt like she was gagged but she knows she couldn't fought back or he might kill her then he poured the oatmeal through her mouth after that, released her jaw to let her chew the food and it just kept repeating until she finished it. Perfida was done eating then she noticed that the henchman was watching the new and it was about the accident.
"Father and daughter found dead in the woods by Route 13, the man is identified as Apollo Spyro but the daughter's name is still unknown", the newscaster reported, Perfida was stunned to hear her sister's name and that she died too, the leader saw that she had been watching "police are still investigating the incident and now, the bodies are brought to take custody by the authority for an autopsy and until any family member claim the two bodies and put them at rest". Perfida felt like someone punched her gut and a lump in her throat then started pouring, the leader held her shoulder and patted it.
"Don't be sad, you'll be with them someday but for now, you're in a better hands with our lady", the leader said, Perfida understood that and started to tremble. The leader took a bottle of water and opened it, he let her drink as much as she needed, "that's a good girl", he teased then wiped her mouth and her eyes with his hands and tied her mouth again, "she's coming later so be polite and stop crying", the leader informed her and put his finger on her face then he stood up and carried her back to her room. Perfida was left alone and then started grieving for her family, it was sad this how she mourned them and might not get the chance to say her goodbye.
