Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Where there's a will, there's a way!

After getting a good nights rest Ken felt refreshed and ready for the new day, he knew that from now on there was no time to be lazy. It wasn't just so Ken could get stronger for his own selfish reasons, but also so he could meet Zelios again.

Ken shot up from his bed, and got ready in a flash, he grabbed some food and left while eating with a determined face. The villagers seemed somewhat concerned after looking at Ken, but they had a rough idea on where he might have been going since this wasn't the first time he's gone into that same direction.

He had finally arrived at his destination. It was an empty field where Ken could train alone without any constraints or having to worry about any other people. Ken used to come here a lot to practice his magic, but one day all of a sudden he stopped, the reasoning why he stopped is unclear though.

Ken stood straight and relaxed his body, and then of a sudden Ken closed his eyes and changed his breathing pattern, a few moments later. He opened his eyes and all of a sudden a stream of lightning discharged from his body, spreading five meters wide, anyone caught up within an attack like that wouldn't be able to get out unscathed that's for sure. Shortly after using that attack, he fell to one knee.

"Damnit, I guess I'm still not able to use magic like that without any drawbacks, but that's exactly the reason why I came back to this field, I can't give up now."

Ken sat down on the ground to replenish all the mana he lost. The main issue lied within him not having enough mana reserve, so after using one draining attack like that, Ken would be stuck unable to do anything for a while.

The most obvious way for Ken to increase his mana reserve is to push his own limits by using attacks that drain out his mana. It's a tiring and potentially harmful process if you're not too careful, as of now it was all Ken could do to improve so he could last longer in battles.

Ken was left alone with nothing but his thoughts. He wondered to himself how much longer he would have to train until he felt comfortable enough to leave the village.

By the time Ken had realised how long he had been training it was already night time, he stood there breathing heavily, his clothes full of tears from practising for so long. Even though he was standing, he could barely move a single muscle. Yet he was still smiling.

This was it, the type of feeling Ken had yearned for after such a long time not being able to move, Ken decided to rest in the cold empty field for a while, he fell back, staring up at the starry sky.

"A sight like this never gets old as many times as you look at it."

An hour passed by until Ken mustered up the energy to travel back to the village. He decided to head back after saying.

"Maybe I should go back to the village now people might get worried if I'm gone for too long."

When Ken arrived back at the village, he saw a lot of people were missing something didn't feel right to him. Ken managed to see an elderly gentleman that lived in the village and said

"Hey, old man is something wrong? Where is everyone?"

"Ken! You're back, something terrible happened. A group of kids supposedly travelled into the dangerous forest west from here. Everyone's gone out to search for them, but they can only get so far alone. If they run into the creature that owns the forest, it'll be over..."

"Don't tell me you're talking about the supposed King Of Wolves?!"

"It'll be better for you to stay here..."

While the village elder attempted to dodge the question, Ken knew his suspicion was right. Even after Ken was worn out from training the entire day, even when Ken could've collapsed at any moment, one thing was for sure, Ken knew he couldn't leave those kids in that forest.

To avoid using any magic, he rushed over to the armoury and rummaged through all the weapons inside of it all the new ones were missing, the other villagers must've took them and went to search for the kids. Ken managed to grab a good looking iron sword with a few scratches, he took it and ran for the forest.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
SquidwardTentacles SquidwardTentacles

Here's a short introduction to the magic in this world.

Fun fact: Currently Ken can use Wind and Lightning magic

It's also possible to learn other types of magic. However, it is a difficult process, details on that will probably be announced in the future.

On a side note, I hope you enjoyed this chapter
