Chapter 3: The Unknown Curse Pt. 2

The maid carefully walked away from the door and ran around the corner. The guard scoffed at her actions for the hundredth time because of her. She always tried to flirt with Jungkook even though she knew he already hated her. The head guard already knew something was fishy when she always told the other maids to just work downstairs. Even when he first asked for her to not touch his necklace. Yet she still did it not knowing what happened to the other people that worked for him. But the head guard always wondered why he was so protective of it. He wanted to ask but was too afraid to knowing it might be something he doesn't want others to know. But he would tell him right? He is the closest person to him other than his family members and he always tells him everything, even the little things. Should he ask him tonight or should he wait for Jungkook to tell him when he wants to?

"Chang-Woo hyung, I'm ready". He turned his head to see his friend coming out of his room in an ivory colored coat layered with pins and badges, silver watch, shining black shoes, a collared shirt, black tie and the only necklace he ever wears; the silver necklace.

"Shall we?" Chan-Woo gestured his hands to the left of the long and tall hallway. Jungkook nodded in approval and they both followed. As they came down the hallway to the stairs, the guards on duty bowed or saluted to Jungkook and he did the same. When they reached stair case, the twisting and turning of the stairs made an illusion that it would take forever to reach the first floor.

"Hyung, if you don't mind me asking. Do you hate the head maid?" His words echoed off the walls with the sounds of their shoes.

"I don't hate her but-". Chang-Woo words were cut of by even sharper words.

"How could you like her when she doesn't even-". Chang-Woo stopped in his trek down the stairs and stopped Jungkook as well.

"I guess you don't care for my explanation then. But as I was saying, I don't hate her but its just that she annoys the hell out of me".

"Oh. I'm sorry, I should have let you keep talking before. But to be honest, yeah she does annoy me. There is not even one single bit of me that likes her". They continued their way down the stairs and made it to the first floor. The slick white marble shined from the sunlight peeking through the life-sized windows. There was one small hallway decorated with lights and flower arrangements. At the end of the hallway was a doorway that widened to a large room with a long table.

"You should come down faster. Don't spend so much time." His mother turned her head to see her son at the doorway. He nodded and came to sit by his family for breakfast which was more considered to be brunch for Jungkook since it was about 12 p.m. He ate what he usually did every morning which was whatever soup was on the table, some kimchi and rice.

"My son, me and your mother have to go out for a few days for some business with Sin Du-Ho and his family. Now when we are gone, I want you to look over the strategies I taught you last week and to also go the library. While you are in the library, I would like you to look over the third generation of my father and his diary entries. The final thing I would like you to keep up on is-".

"I know, I know: look at the following kingdoms for possible suitors". Jungkook let out a sigh at how much he always had to do everyday. Especially the one he dreaded the most of all. His father wanted his son to find a suitor before he became king so he would have a head-start of a greater success.

"Sire, the horses and bags are waiting for you at the stables." The servant that works in the stables came up to the table to tell the king and queen that the preparations for them to leave are complete. King Dangjo gave a nod to him and motioned for him and his wife to get going on the trip.

"Listen to what your father told you." His mother got up out of her chair, turned towards her husband and walked with him out of the room into the empty hallways.

"I know. Stay safe. I lov-." He was about to finish his sentence but realized the door was already closed. He sank back down in his seat thinking about the unfinished sentence. This situation happened to him all the time. He never got the reaction he wanted when he said this sentence to his parents. Even as a child, the sentence was either unfinished or never got a reply.

"Have a good trip. Return safely Sire." The door opened and someone came out of the door shouting into the hallway. Chang-Woo turned to see Jungkook sitting at the table with no one by his side.

"I just ran into your parents and talked to them for a while. I guess they needed to discuss the upcoming season and possible..." Chang-Woo's sentence ran off into thin air seeing his friends grim face. As he approached his friend closer, the candles on the table flickered with the flame atop of them. The glow cast a subtle reflection into Jungkook's brown eyes.

"Is everything okay, Jungkook?" Chang-Woo placed his hand on his friends' shoulder looking for a response.

"Yeah, I'm fine". Jungkook's heart ached when he spoke those words filled with lies.

"Have you guys seen King Dangjo and Queen Jung-Eum anywhere." The stable servant's head popped through the door with a worried look in their eyes.

"Didn't they just leave right now with their horses?" Chang-Woo started to get confused at what the servant was trying to say.

"The horses are still there in the stable the way I left them. Their bags are still their as well. I asked everyone else if they have seen them leave but they said they didn't see them leave at all."
