Chapter 38: Hidden Dragon Upper Realm
Xaioxiao calmed down and said,"Alright, I will accept your apology this time. By the way, can you tell me about the yearly assessment he mentioned earlier?"
Gu Yu'er appears to be someone who dislikes conflict. She replied,"Yes, every year there is a competition for the inner disciples. The total number of the inner disciples is not many so it is held as a competition that spans a few days. This assessment is however conducted in a place called Hidden Dragon Tower. You will find out more about the tower after you enter the sect. The test however is a battle between the disciples and some elders of the sect."
She paused for a moment and continued,"The elders will restrict their cultivation and fight the disciples. Through this battle they estimate the progress of the disciple and give out a comprehensive evaluation. The results of the competition are decided based on these evaluations. You can earn merits in this assessment."
I then spoke,"Quick question. Why were you two specifically sent here?" I was wondering about that. It wasn't some random selection that's for sure.
She smiled at my question and replied,"Actually right now this year's assessment is happening back in the sect. Elder brother Feng is one of the Hidden Dragon Geniuses so he is exempt from the evaluation unless someone specifically challenges him. I also happen to be the strongest inner disciple after the Hidden Dragon Geniuses so my assessment is at the end. I wanted to earn merit points so I took the mission as soon as it was announced. I dragged him along so that it would be fun."
Xuan Feng's eyes were twitching when she said the last part. I could tell that they liked each other by the way they were interacting. The boy was hard headed and the girl can't express her feelings. I wanted to have some fun.
I looked at him with a taunting smile and said,"So, you accompanied your girlfriend on her mission, how thoughtful."
Both of them immediately stood up and stared shouting.
Gu Yu'er said in an agitated tone,"What? No. It's not like that. We are just good friends. Elder brother Feng and I went through a lot in the past. So, we are very close."
Xuan Feng just shouted,"Bastard, what do think you are saying? Yu'er, stop saying misleading things like that."
Xiaoxiao started laughing while looking at them. I also couldn't help but smile at that.
Soon they realised that I was teasing them. The sat down in embarrassment and the room turned silent.
I broke the silence and asked,"Tell me, do we also need to participate in the assessment?"
Gu yu'er huffed and replied,"Yes, that was why we were sent here so quickly. They elders wanted us to bring you back by the time the assessment ends."
I looked at Xiaoxiao and said,"I don't know about myself but you might have some fun in the assessment."
She rolled her eyes at me and said,"Well I am actually looking forward to the assessment. Not everyone is a freak of nature like you. I am also curious how I will fare against the standards of Hidden Dragon Martial Sect."
I can understand. It would actually be good for her to gain some experience here if the sect agrees to let her leave. She is after all the heir to the Dragon Clan. Based of her talent if she keeps increasing her strength someday even the Soaring Dragon Clan of Totem Galaxy might take her in.
Xuan Feng surprisingly asked Xiaoxiao,"Are you the strongest in your clan?"
I answered on her behalf and said,"Yes, she is. Before taking the trials we actually participated in the Holy Light Clan's youngster competition."
Now that got him interested. This guy is a bit different from Li Muzhi. I can tell Xuan Feng is more competitive. I get an overall good feeling from these hidden dragon youngsters or maybe I am being too hasty in my judgement.
He continued asking,"How is the competition held? Is it just a fight or is there any challenge?"
Xiaoxiao briefly explained the contents of the competition. She told them about he rewards and different people participating in the competition. She also explained about the storm world and the Dragon Fighting Stage.
I could tell that there was intrigue under that indifference he was portraying. I was just listening to her speak calmly.
He then asked,"What was the strongest cultivation among the participants?"
I smile slightly when he asked the question but Xiaoxiao replied while ignoring me,"The strongest cultivation among the youngsters was 1st rank Martial Exalted."
Gu Yu'er had a curious expression as she immediately asked,"What place did you get in the competition?" This girl seems very friendly. I bet she is good to everyone in the sect. She also didn't have the arrogance that usually comes with her cultivation and status.
Xiaoxiao replied,"I got second while Chu Feng got first."
Their expressions immediately changed. Both of them were shocked by that. They were looking at me with widened eyes. I guess they didn't expect me to be that strong. There was no arrogance on Xuan Feng's face anymore. Both of them didn't speak for a while.
It was Xuan Feng that spoke suddenly,"I finally understand why the elders wanted to bring you back so fast. At first I thought they wanted you to participate in the assessment to gauge your strength but it looks like they have a totally different reason."
Gu Yu'er then asked Xiaoxiao,"Junior Sister, If you don't mind me asking, what is your cultivation level?"
Xiaoxiao calmly answered,"8th rank Utmost Exalted." They both nodded at that. I guess it was within their expectation.
Gu Yu'er then came to Xiaoxiao's side and began speaking,"I didn't think you would be so strong junior sister. Your cultivation is even higher than mine. If you challenge a hidden dragon genius and defeat them, you can take their spot."
Xuan Feng had a complicated expression when he told me,"As for you, only the Sect Master can decide your status."
Gu Yu'er nodded and said,"That's right. With your cultivation, you would be the strongest junior in our sect. By the way junior brother, Where do you come from? I have never heard of Chu Heavenly Clan."
I smiled at that and replied,"It's only natural that you haven't heard about my clan. It is the ruler of Ancestral Martial Starfield."
Both of them were surprised again. But they didn't ask me about my origins again. That's the difference between the other Starfield rulers and this Sect. The disciples here are from all over the place so they don't usually despise you based on your origins.
I then asked them,"Tell me. Do you know a guy named Li Muzhi?"
Xuan Feng blurted out,"What? How do know Muzhi?" Gu Yu'er was also taken back when I asked that.
I just shrugged and said,"We both once saw him and his grandfather outside the Hidden Dragon Starfield. They were taking back a girl named Yu Ting. I actually fought the guy by restricting my power at the same level as his."
Xiaoxiao also said with a spiteful expression,"Yes, it was outside my Dragon Clan. I fully enjoyed watching Chu Feng kick that guys ass. Arrogant fool, he thought he could intrude into our clan's core area and get away with it."
They did not expect something like that. Xuan Feng then said,"I knew they went out looking for Yu Ting but I never though he would fight someone. No wonder he was so edgy when he came back. He lost to you then."
I asked both of them with my eyes narrowed,"What happened to that girl Yu Ting? Was she punished for breaking the rules?"
Both their expressions turned unnatural as Gu Yu'er replied,"When they came back, I heard that Elder Li Fengxian pleaded for a lenient punishment. However the Vice Sect master denied his plea and confined her in the cold room as a punishment. Evidently he wanted to make an example out of her as a warning to the other disciples."
I still had a calm expression on my face. I knew this would happen. Now that I am here I will see how they continue her punishment. The same cannot be said about Xiaoxiao.
She immediately became angry and started to release her oppressive might. It started to shake the entire palace as she wasn't controlling her might. Both of them were surprised by her actions. Xuan Feng covered Gu Yu'er with his power.
I waved my hand and the martial power completely receded back into her. The tremors also stopped and everything became peaceful again. I looked at her and said,"That's enough."
She calmed down immediately. During her stay at the Dragon clan, Xiaoxiao became good friends with Yu Ting. So, I can understand her anger but releasing it right now was not a good idea. I also observed that her strength became stronger. She must have consumed the bloodline water before coming here.
Xiaoxiao then looked at our guests and said,"I apologise, it's just Yu Ting is a friend of ours so hearing her being punished made me angry."
I told them,"There are people coming here. Can one of you go out and tell them that everything is fine."
Xuan Feng nodded and went out of the mansion. He came back after a few minutes with a relaxed expression. After that I silently heard as they spoke about the sect for a while.
They returned to their own living quarters while asking us to be ready the next day. Time passed as it was next morning. Xiaoxiao and I were standing inside the same throne room as yesterday. However other than two of us, there were only the three escorts ready to take us to the sect.
We finished formalities as Yi Long brought us to a transportation formation. It was hidden inside the palace guarded by a protection formation. He performed a few seals using an key and the formation opened. The three of us then stepped inside the teleportation formation that led to Hidden Dragon Upper Realm.
It didn't take long before the five of us arrived at the exit. As soon as we left the formation we found ourselves in a vast forest. There were trees around us tall enough to touch the sky. We were in an obscure ditch inside the forest. From their expressions I realised that this was normal. I could sense that there were many strong beasts present in the forest around us. There were no humans in the immediate vicinity.
Yi Long then spoke,"This is known as sky forest. We are still far away from the Sect so let's leave."
We nodded and soon left the exit. We traversed through the forest as we moved towards the Sect. After a while I could sense human presence in the vicinity.
Xuan Feng then spoke,"We just entered the periphery of Hidden Dragon Martial Sect. A little further and we will reach the edge of the Outer sect. There is a formation that will take us to the Inner sect there."
Soon we reached a huge gate with twin dragon marks on them. It was the entrance gate leading to the outer sect. We landed before the gate as Gu Yu'er explained,"This gate leads to the outer sect where most of our disciples stay."
She didn't have to tell me. I could see that on my own. This place was bustling with crowd and spanned hundreds of miles. The outer sect consisted of cities, populated mountains and many other human settlements. I could see many people involved in different activities even in the border city that we entered. To my surprise a lot of families were present in the area. I thought only disciples would be present inside the sect.
As if reading my thoughts Yi Long said,"The disciples are given an option to bring their immediate family to live with them inside the outer sect. However they are not allowed to enter the inner sect unless they have special permission."
He then turned toward us and said,"Let me formally introduce myself again. I am Yi Long, one of the elders of the Outer Sect and also the guardian of this border city. Once we enter my palace, I can direct you to the formation that will take you to the inner sect."
We nodded and entered the city. Since we were following Yi Long, our path was unimpeded. I also observed that the two inner disciples beside me were getting a lot of attention. The inner disciples must have higher status that I imagined. Many were also wondering about both of us newcomers.
