Chapter 2: Together

I knew that she loved me, but I never thought I'd actually get to hear her say it. It was the most incredible feeling hearing her say what I've always dreamed of. I hold Lexa tighter, before I kiss her deeply.

As we're getting some supplies, Lexa talks to me. "After I died and I saw you in the city of light, I was able to see Madi." I smile, knowing they got to see each other, but it quickly fades when I know I'll never see Madi again. Lexa notices. "She loves you so much Clarke. You were her mom." Lexa says, as she looks into my eyes. "I only got to see her while she has had the flame, but even in that short amount of time I knew she was special. I can't imagine having her grow next to me." I smile. "Madi was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I just wish that you could've been there to be her mom too." Lexa nods sadly. "If I just sent you home earlier, Titus wouldn't of tried to shoot you." She starts to cry. I stop what I'm doing and I pull her into my arms. "If I went home earlier I would've said goodbye anyway. The same thing would of happened. This is not your fault." I tell her. She smiles. "When you kissed me I was shocked. But I was so happy. When you pulled away in my tent when I first kissed you, I thought I'd never get to do it again. Especially after I did what I did at Mount Weather." She looks down. "Lexa. You were trying to prevent more people from dying. And you were right when you said if I was in your position I would've done the same." "So you forgive me?" She asks. "Of course. I forgave you so long ago." She leans in, and I feel her lips on mine. The feeling never gets old. When I kiss her it's the best feeling in the world, and I never want to let that feeling go again.

"Now that we've set up a good base area, we should get food. Let's go together." Lexa says, as she grabs 2 wooden spears that she made for us. She holds a spear in one hand, and my hand in the other. "I still can't believe all of this." I say. She squeezes my hand lightly in response. "I missed you more than anything in the world. I would've done anything to get you back." Lexa smiles. After a few minutes of walking, I see a rabbit. Lexa spots it too. Before I even get the chance to look back at the rabbit, I see that the spear is out of Lexa's hand, and I see it in the rabbits eye. "Wow. You're really good at this." I say. "I'll teach you." She says. After we look around for about an hour, we can't find anymore food. So we go back with one rabbit.

"This will donor now, but we'll probably have to go hunting again tomorrow. There used to be many more animals." Lexa says. I sit down next to her. "Tell me about Madi." She says. I grab her hand. "Madi was smart from the very beginning. She trapped me when I tried to follow her, in a bear trap. It hurt like hell when it closed on my leg. I went back to camp to clean it up, and soon I found her there." Lexa nods. "After a few days of trying to find her, I finally go to the lake where I found her before, and I draw a picture. I can tell that she's right near me, so I leave it there. I drew a picture of her. And the next day, she comes to my camp. She looks worried, but I tell her I'm not a threat. I give her some food, and I teach her how to hunt, and she teaches me how to make a net to catch fish. After a while she trusts me." "She sounds great." Lexa says, as she smiles brightly. "Yeah. She really was. I told her about you, and she comforted me. She always wished she could've met you." Lexa puts an arm around my shoulder. "I saw her in the flame, but I didn't really get to talk to her. I wish things could've been different." "Me too." I reply. "She reminded me of you, which made the pain of losing you worse every time I saw her. She was smart like you, brave like you, she even looked like you a little." At this point Lexa is holding me in her arms, and I feel a tear drip down my cheek. "I cried every night. The pain never went away." I say. I see a tear drip down Lexa's face too. "I'm here now. And I'm not going anywhere."

After putting together our camp a little more, we go to sleep. "There's no one to interrupt us. There was always someone when you were the commander." Lexa laughs. "Yeah. Especially when I saw your drawing that you made me. When I saw it I was so happy that you even thought about me enough to draw me. Before Titus walked in I was going to ask you why you drew it." She says. "I couldn't get you out of my head. I couldn't figure out why at the time but I know now. That was when I loved you." Lexa's face lights up. She kisses me passionately, and I smile into the kiss. "What about when I kissed you for the first time? I never got to know what went through your head." Lexa says. "You know I kissed you back. I knew it was what I wanted when I was kissing you. I pulled away because Finn went through my mind, and I thought it was too soon because he just died. I did really like you though." I say.

Lexa and I talk for a little while longer until I finally drift off to sleep in her arms. I never got to sleep that quickly and easily without her.

I wake up, and Lexa's gone. Was I dreaming? Is she still dead? I feel tears immediately fall. I run out of the little hut that we made. Or did I just make it? I see Lexa and I run into her arms. "Good morning Clarke." Lexa laughs a little at my tight embrace. "When I woke up and you were gone, I thought I imagined you being here the whole time or I was dreaming it all." I cry more. "I'm here. For real. And I'm not going to leave you, not again." She holds me even tighter.

"Clarke." I hear Lexa say, but I hear it coming from behind me, even though Lexa's in front of me. I turn around, and I see the fake Lexa from before. "Why is the second you here?" Lexa asks me. "I don't know." I say. We wait for her to speak. "I have news for the two of you. I didn't expect this to happen." Fake Lexa says. "What?" I ask. "When you transcend, it's a choice. Everyone chose to transcend but now they all want to come back." She says. "Why?" I ask, even though I already know the answer. "They want to be with you." She says. "What will happen to Lexa?" I ask, as tears threaten to fall. "She's supposed to return to the flame, but I've chosen to let her stay." My face lights up. "Oh my god. Thank you!" I hug Lexa happily. "Everyone will arrive in a few minutes." She says, before she disappears again. "You're going to meet Madi." I say, as I smile at Lexa. She smiles back at me.

We sit down in camp talking more about how everyone transcended when I hear the sound of the portal. Raven, Octavia, Madi, Murphy, Emori, Indra, Levvitt, Jordan, Miller, Hope, Jackson, and more stand in front of me. "I can't believe this." I say, as I run to Madi. I pick her up and spin her around in my arms. I hug everyone else. After I hug everyone they all look at Lexa. Indra and her shake hands, and Madi walks up to her. "I never thought I'd see you in person." Madi says. "Me neither." Lexa replies. Lexa picks her up and hugs her tightly. She smiles at me. "Clarke told me so much about you." Madi says to her. "You meant the world to her." She says. Lexa smiles brightly at me. "You meant the world to her too." They hug again, and Lexa hugs Octavia next.

After we build our camp bigger, we all sit down by a fire that we built. "Clarke told me she told you all kinds of stories about me." Lexa says to Madi. "Which one is your favorite?" She asks. "That's so hard to pick. I love the ones where you fought the puna together, when you had your first kiss, when she drew you, when you fought Roan, when you kissed again, and when she saw you in the city of light. There's just so many. I love them all." Madi says. Lexa smiles again, and she holds my hand. "This is the most I've ever seen you smile Lexa." I say. "I have every reason to now. I have you Clarke. I have Madi and the rest of my friends. I couldn't be happier." She hugs me, and Madi joins in. "Thank you everyone. For coming back for me." I say. "We couldn't be without you." Raven says. Octavia nods. We all group hug. "So this is it. Back to surviving. But this time, we survive together."
