Chapter 4: I Didn’t See It Coming
Annabelle approaches Diana, she is in a hurry to leave.
Annabelle: (Grabs Diana's hand to get her attention) Hey Diana!.
Diana: (Surprised) When did you finish?
Annabelle: Just now. I'm sorry but I really have to go. My mom will be home any minute now.
Diana: Wait. I'll drive you.
Annabelle: It's okay, I already called an Uber. Besides, I don't want to trouble you. Just have fun.
Diana: What do you mean trouble me?. I brought you here, I should take you home.
Annabelle: It's okay. My Uber is here, so I should be going now. Thank you for the gift, and the drink. I'll call you when I get home (Hurries off).
Diana: Okay take care. (In a low tone, referring to Annabelle's dates) I wonder how it went though. I should've asked (returns to her group).
At Annabelle's Apartment
Annabelle arrived home and opens the door with her key.
Annabelle: Hey girls!(carrying a plastic bag which contains two ice cream cones in a cup with some Chinese food), I brought you something.
Eline: Yes! (excited, she runs and grabs the plastic bag from Annabelle).
Clarissa: As expected, you didn't come empty handed. (Grabs the plastic From Eline) I'm older than you, so I'll choose first.
Eline: Whatever. (Impatient)Do it fast.
Annabelle: I'll go change (goes to the room to change into her pajamas while Clarissa and Eline fight over the food).
The Next Morning At The Community College
The bus arrives at the bus station in school. Annabelle and the other students hurry out of the bus. Unfortunately, Annabelle is pushed to the ground by the enormous crowd.
Annabelle: (cries in pain when she notices a bruise on her left hand) Ahh..my hand..(some of the students stop to look at Annabelle who is still on the ground. A student named Harry rushes to her aid).
Harry: (Helping her to her feet) Are you okay?, Can you walk?.
Annabelle: I'm okay (struggles to ignore the pain, but her face doesn't cooperate).
Harry : Are you sure?. If you want, I can take you to see the nurse.
Annabelle: I'd like to, but I'll be late for class.
Harry: Your health should be your top priority. Let me take you to the nurse.
Annabelle: Okay. Thank you.
Harry: You don't need to ( Walks with her to the first aid building).
Annabelle and Harry arrive at the Nurse's Office.
Annabelle: Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Harry: My pleasure. You take care of yourself and put some medicine on your bruise. (Starts walking away and waving back at Annabelle)
Annabelle: (knocks and walks into the nurse's office)
2 Weeks Later, At the Park.
Annabelle is with her sisters at the park. Clarissa and Eline are walking around, enjoying the scenery while Annabelle decides to sit down and eat Some ice cream she bought earlier. Clarissa later joins her.
Clarissa: it feels so good to be out in the open. I wish we could do this every week.
Annabelle: I know. We should do this every time I get my paycheck. All work and no fun makes life a little bit boring.
Clarissa: I wish mom was here. I wish she could be a mother to us. You, you're always doing everything for us so we can feel comfortable. You're playing the role of a mother too soon.
Annabelle: She'll come around. I pray.
Clarissa: I don't want to mention how she extravagantly uses money and wastes them on things that are not even important, or how she gambles all her paychecks. You're the reason why I sometimes push away the thoughts of going back to dad.
Annabelle: You do fight with his girlfriend a lot.
Clarissa: That's because she's so annoying (they both laugh for a while and Annabelle continues)
Annabelle: Will I ever get a boyfriend?.
Clarissa: With that habit of yours, who would want to date you?.
Annabelle: (Surprised) What do you mean?.
Clarissa: You don't want to make friends, you have simply refused to go out and have fun. And did you forget?, you only ever take a shower 3 times a week.
Annabelle: Hey, that's because I don't see any need to have to shower every day when I don't even go out.
Clarissa: Yes, yes, but save us from the air pollution. Do you want to finally learn how to take a shower every day when we finally die?.
Annabelle: (smirks) Very funny. (They're quiet for a while before she finally continues) I'll try. ( springs to her feet and starts walking away) I'm going to join Eline so we can take pictures.
Clarissa: (follows behind) Hey, wait for me.
The following day, At Annabelle's Apartment at 6pm.
Annabelle is putting dirty clothes into the washer when her phone starts to ring. She grabs her phone from her pocket and swipes to answer.
Annabelle: Hello, Diana?.
Voice: Hey girl. How're you?, what's up?.
Annabelle: I'm okay. I'm not going to ask how you are because I already know.
Voice: Guess what?. I'm inviting you to my brother's birthday party next week. It's going t be so much fun.
Annabelle: (without hesitation) No.
Voice: Why?. Did something happened that you're not telling me?.
Annabelle: You...where did you pick those guys from?. The blind date you prepared was a total mess. They were all idiots and one pervert too.
Voice: (Trying not to curse) Those fr....you know what?, I'm so sorry. I didn't know they were that bad. You must've been really shocked.
Annabelle: Why would I even want to go anywhere with you?. You always introduce me to random people that I don't like.
Voice: You're my best friend. If you don't agree to go hang out with me, who do you want to hang out with?. Besides, you really need some fresh air. I promise no more guys. I won't introduce you to anymore assholes I promise.
Annabelle: You know what?, Actually I should go. (My sister was right, I should go out more often) I'll go.
Voice: (screams excitingly) Yes I'm so exited. I love you (kisses her phone) muah. I'll call you later so we can order some outfits for you.
Annabelle: Okay ( call disconnects).
A Few Days Later At Diana's Family House.
Diana and Annabelle walk in
Annabelle: (Admiring the furnishings) Your house is so big and it's so beautiful.
Diana: (smiles widely)Since it's my brother's birthday today, we decided to redecorate. I'm glad you like it. I'll take you to my brother now. (Calling out to her brother who is in the middle of a conversation with his friends) Harry, Harry we have a guest.
Harry: (To his friends) Excuse me, I'll be right back.
All: Sure, no problem, we'll be right here.
Harry: (Walks to Diana's position and suddenly locks eyes with Annabelle after recognizing her face) I know you!.
Annabelle: (Realizing she's met Harry before) I know you too! (they both stare at each other intensely mixed with shyness).
