Chapter 8: Purple Havoc Part three

Floating in the sky I felt like I could see the whole city. Clouds of dust filled the streets. Cars scattered about like toys, some in pieces and others upside down. People running in every direction with no rhyme or reason. I couldn't see my Aunt in the chaos. It worries me, but I know I need to have faith that my Aunt is a competent suborn Irish that won't go gently into that good night.

While looking around I hadn't realized I was drifting towards the Krypton News & Sun. A giant building covered in one-way glass. Having bumped into it with my only asset, I turned around to see my reflection through the glow. I was shocked! My eye and hair color had changed of course. But I couldn't believe that my outfit changed too.

The casual clothes I had on before changing into a long gray tunic coat with buttons running down both sides and a bright blue stripe at the bottom of the coat and sleeves, light blue and gray behind the head headphones with blue glasses, black leggings, short gray heel boots that come just under my knees, and black suit gloves.

Many thoughts ran through my mind, but only one possibility comes to light, Blinky. It's the only thing that I know of that can pull something like this off.

I move away from the building, only to hear yet another monstrous roar. Shifting my focus to the street below. A purple humanoid creature at least six feet tall and seven feet long made its way on the road towards North Snobbyville. Its footsteps shaking the ground. The police had made a wall out of cars, benches, and, anything else they could get their hands on. The police themselves were positioned behind the wall shooting the thing, only to have the bullets bounce off as the creature advances. Bystanders were running around trying to get away, only to trample on each other in the process.

Chaos and madness, utter madness. More people were getting hurt from stray bullets and running each other over than from the creature.

All this is going on and here I am floating in the sky, just looking down on everything going on like a radioactive bird.

"What is it I should do?" I said out loud.

[Response: To ensure survival the best course of action is to evacuate to a safe location.]

"Wait a minute here! I can't just leave. What about my Aunt and the other people down there?" I replied.

[Respone: Your Aunt has had more than enough time to escape. You have no obligation to prioritize the lives of others over your own.]

I know Blinky's right. I've no reason to help a bunch of people I don't know, especially people I REALLY don't like. But, even so...

Just then the creature suddenly charges towards the wall, knocking it apart like a stack of plastic building blocks and the police into the sky. A little boy, scared, ran out of a building that was hit by a piece of debrie from the wall. Only to find that he's in the path of a flying cop car, His little legs run as fast as they can. The creature desperately rushes even faster towards him, but the boy trips as the car are about to crash down on him.

A cloud of dust and dirt rushes from the ground, then an eerie silence took hold. The creature, the police, and the bystanders all fell silent. Just staring wide-eyed, completely surprised looking at the car that's upside down and suspended six feet off the ground on top of a blue bubble thing. Under the car was a figure in gray and bright blue kneeling on the road, seemly holding the car with one hand and holding the boy with their other arm.

If you'd hadn't guessed it by now that figure is me. I expand my forcefield to make the car, which is surpizely perfectly balanced, fall to the side next to us, making a loud crashing sound that broke the silence. After I was sure it wasn't going to fall back on us, I put down my forcefield. The child was holding on to my jacket tightly with his eyes shut. I supported him as I got up, holding him close.

The people around us truly couldn't believe their eyes. The police didn't know what to make of me. Friend or foe, it didn't matter to them. The looks on their faces made it clear that in their minds, I was another freak they had to deal with. The only question was did they have to deal with me now or later.

[Comment: You have made an irrational decision. Overall chances of survival now 62.23%.] Blinky told me through my headset. He did it in his emotionless voice, but for a moment I thought I could hear disappointment in its voice. (Can AI's be disappointed?)

Blinky's not wrong (because you know it's never wrong), I made a stupid choice. Looking back on it, my life would've been WAY more peaceful if I'd just left that day. Even so, if I could go back to that point in time, I'd save that kid all over again, because even now (speaking from the future) I don't regret saving him.

Back to the present, the Creature was about a block away. I knew I could fight it, but with the kid in my arms, we'd both get hurt. Heck, he was hurt already. He had road burn on his legs and hands, and two badly scraped knees. It was amazing that he wasn't crying his eyes out at this point. Though I guess he's too scared to feel the pain.

It was clear that my first priority was getting him someplace safe. Blinky picked up on this and said,

[Notice: A first aid and disaster relief station are located four clicks north of your current location.]

A map appeared on the lenses of the glasses, showing the location of the aid station and myself. Before I could even do anything the police, that we're in a daze from the impact, and you know being thrown around like a rag doll, surrounded me and the creature with their guns pointed at us.

"Their nuts!" I thought to myself. Do they plan to shoot us? While I'm holding an injured kid! Like this was going to go well for them!

A group of policemen started to approach me, their guns out in front of them.

"We'll only warn you once! Put your hands up and get on your knees!" One yelled at me.

"So, you just want me to drop the poor scared, and injured kid on the street?!" I yelled back. The man was clearly shocked. It was as though he thought I didn't know how to speak or something like that.

He and the other officers lowered their guns a little and took another look at me. Then they realized I was holding a kid in my arms and there was blood. Looking to my left they saw the police car on its side and began putting two and two together. They calmed down a little once they realized that I'd save the kid.

Sadly, the calm didn't last long as the other group of police, that had the creature at gunpoint began to panic, firing their guns. Bullets once again flew through the air out of control.

[Alert: Perjectiales current course in line with surrounding armed officers. Projected outcome: Fatual] Blinky alerted me. Some of the stray bullets were heading straight for the police, set on a course to kill. I put up a wall in front of the officers that stopped the bullets. However, the downpour of lead wasn't over yet.

[Alert: Perjectiales on course for impact in 1.4 seconds. Defensive measures necessary to minimize damage.]

Oh Crap! I can't put up another force field while I have another one up! I haven't learned that trick yet! My only choice is to shield the kid the best I can and hope Blinky made this suit bulletproof. I held the kid tight against my chest, with my back to the bullets, closed my eyes, and braced for impact.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
