Chapter 2: Prologue

Dusk Kingdom (500 Years Ago)

The moon was full.

It was the only shining light upon that dark, cold and dreadful place. Life on plants were sucked, lands were cracked dry as if they never tasted even just a bit of water. The whole place looked abandoned and deserted, but someone was watching from the insides of a huge castle that towered everything around the area.

White curtains swayed along with the cold wind, dancing gracefully behind a dark, masculine shadow that was formed firmly on the lifeless, tiled floor.

It was from a man who was overlooking the scenery below him, a kingdom placed below his. The other side of the world that was nothing close to theirs.

Just the total opposite.

He saw a world that spoke of happiness and love. It was full of wonders and hope. The world he had never lived in .

He leaned on the metal guardrail while lazily holding a wine glass filled with blood. He sipped on it, tugging his lips upward, forming a smirk. Drips of blood then clung dangerously on his lower lip causing him to slowly lick them off.

"How envious... Do I ever get to see my people that happy?" he muttered under his breath.

He swiftly put down the glass on the rail as soon as he heard incoming footsteps nearing him. He then turned his body lightly to see who it was. He saw a woman wearing a stoic face and a black pantsuit approaching him, doing her usual job: to divulge.

"Lord Vladymir, a mere human strayed into our castle grounds. Shall we kill him-"

"A crime not even punishable by death. Now, now, Isabella, bring him to me."

"But my lord, this human can be a threat to your existence."

He leaned closer and held her chin without getting that playful smirk out of his face. "A mere threat can't bring me down because I am the king."

His secretary was caught off guard, causing her to stiffen more. Vladymir just lowly chuckled at her reaction while shaking his head. He then turned his back against the woman, leading his way towards the dungeon.

They both strolled down the empty alley, their shoes clacking against the cold floor, with only torches as their source of light.

The guards opened the dungeon cell for them, revealing a man whose eyes are as green as the emeralds. He looked so decent in his navy blue suit, a pair of white pants with thin gold linings on the edges, and also a pair of white boots, covering both his feet.

There wasn't a hint of fear in his eyes but a smile can be seen on his lips instead. "-so you're serving here for a decade now?" It looked like he was talking to the guard.

The door then closed loudly, catching the attention of the man.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" Vladymir stood proudly but the man didn't get intimidated with him. He even tried to stand up from his seat but the guard he was talking to earlier, stopped him.

Vladymir slowly walked towards the human being while giving the guard an 'I'll-be-fine' look.

"A snack? Or a mere human that'd soon be a corpse?"

"Is there any other choice?" the human replied with a grin plastered on his face. He even looked comfortable with his seat.

King Vladymir's laugh then filled the four corners of the room, making his secretary and the guards' faces contort with confusion.

"May I know your name, Sir?" the human asked him.

"You have no right to know my name, but you must be aware that I am the king of this dimension." Vladymir said through clenched teeth, full of authority. "State your name, human."

"I am Julius. Son of King Jones and Queen Hayala Staria," the human prince answered, standing firmly in front of Vladymir, with his right hand on his chest.

"A prince, eh?" Vladymir's head cocked to the side, amused that a human prince got lost into their kingdom.

The vampire king wasn't the cruel type of a ruler. He is compassionate and very considerate as long as you didn't do anything that defies his principles.

Thus, he let Julius go after and gave him the chance to return to their kingdom through a portal that connects their two worlds. But later that day, Julius returned, got imprisoned, and got out again through Vladymir.

Then the cycle repeats until they engaged into a companion type of relationship but was never officially declared as an actual friendship.

...

Vladymir always tours Julius around their lifeless kingdom and vampires would always stare at the human prince with disagreement, but they couldn't do anything against their king.

Julius once asked Vladymir if he would want to visit their kingdom—the human world. The vampire king felt overwhelmed with the thought. It was always his dream to live that life across theirs so he immediately agreed.

The human beings feared Vladymir for being a vampire—a monster, but later on, they accepted him as a friend because he proved himself as a good being. And they may drink blood, but it will never be from a human.

The two royals believed in the possibility that their people may live in harmony. Thana, the vampire queen and the seven remaining members of the royal family were against it. She even started an argument with her husband but got defeated in the end because he used his charms against her.

Unbeknownst to everyone, Vladymir is getting fond with a human named Serene. He loved how her brown eyes glimmer with innocence, how her light freckles sprinkled upon her upturned nose that compliments her fair complexion. How her lips turn into blood red everytime she bites it. Everything about her. It made him fell really hard for it.

Considering all the consequences, she returned his love for her. Love can conquer all. They dated for a while and acted like a normal couple yet discreet, madly in love with each other.

...

Then, the day of the opening of the portal has come. Everyone can now freely wander around the two dimensions— May you be a human or a vampire. Because of this, the two different beings lived side by side. They became a part of each other's lives. Excitement and happiness were apparent in everyone's faces. Indeed, both rulers made the right decision.

A year later, a celebration for their unity and peace commenced in the human world. It was held on the exact day they opened the portal for everybody's use. It was their anniversary, so everyone happily sauntered around the venue, wearing their best dresses and suits.

And the two rulers stood on the center, smiling widely and proudly before their people. Behind them were their families, standing close together to represent unity. But Thana, the vampire queen, along with the seven royal vampires didn't seem to look pleased.

The party went on but a black flying mammal entered discreetly, approaching the vampire king. It landed on his arm and then he noticed a paper attached to its leg.

'The baby, it's coming out. I need you.'

Upon reading the letter, he felt his heart pound with joy and excitement. He will become a father soon. Finally, an offspring coming from him and from the woman he loves.

"I'm going out. I'll be back shortly." He turned to his left to whisper to Julius and the latter nodded in response.

Vladymir was about to leave the venue when a light force, pulling his arm, stopped him from doing so.

"Where are you going? The party hasn't ended yet," Thana, his wife, muttered without taking her hands off his arm.

He let a small smile out and softly brushed her hair to the side. "I'll be back."

He then turned his back on her to go out. He huddled with the people, trying to reach the main entrance. "Excuse me," he said a lot of times, but even him can't hear his own voice.

It was drowned by the noises of the people around him; the laughters of the men because of genuine happiness and the blissful chatting of their people.

Everything was chaotically beautiful but he opted seeing his family-to-be instead of being a part of that on-going fun.

'Thank you, Serene. For taking good care of our child. I hope our child will take after you. I love you both. I'll be there soon,' he said in his mind, feeling the raging fire of excitement in his system. He rushed towards Serene's little home.

On the other hand was the on-going party getting wilder, causing some to wish it'd never end.

Along with the baby's welcoming brawl inside a small hut was an abrupt explosion heard by their bare ears, overlapping the noises and the music everyone in the party created.

The guards immediately got the royals covered by their bodies. Screams can be heard as if they were suddenly attacked by their foes. Some remained calm, some looked around, hoping to know where it came from, but to no avail.

Countless questions filled everyone's head but none of them were answered, making them fall into the pit of confusion even more.

A few minutes have passed and yet they didn't receive a single update. Everyone's forehead creased that later turned into a frown.

It was eerie.

It creeped them out.

It was a conundrum.

A mystery no one was able to solve.
