Chapter 3: Prologue 3 - Mirror world

'So? I'm at the Thai place, now where?'

'-*Go down its left alleyway and head forward through the trees, I'll guide you.'

*

*

*

'-*Straight left, you're almost there.'

I turned to see a glowing pink portal.

'Well, here goes nothing.'

Jumping into the glowing pink portal, I arrive in a world that looks almost identicle to earth, there is vibrant flowing grass and pine trees surrounding me, a bright sky with large fluffy clouds. The only difference was, the grass was blue, the trees had grey trunks and purple leaves, the sky was pink and the clouds black. It was pretty at a glance, but the colors mashed horribly, and it all quickly got old.

'-*Find a place to rest now, preferably next to water.'

I ran through the forest looking for a cave or some sort of natural shelter, but all I could see were miscolored pine trees. The only change in scenery was a clearing about one-hundred feet in front of me.

Running to the clearing, I stop just on the edge. In the middle there were tall, slim people with skin as dark as night, or at least that's what it would be if they were making themselves invisible.

'Shit! I forgot a fucking weapon. The hell am I supposed to do now?!'

'-*Oops, haha. Maybe just grab a stick or something? It doesn't seem like there's anything else you can use right now.'

The shades started to surround me, making an impassible barrier.

'I don't think they know I can see them yet, at least, but how in the hell am I supposed to clear this gate?'

'-*There's only sixteen of them, try and take one out in a single strike, and use the opening to find a better place to fight. They only have numbers against you, see if you can find a cave, so they can't surround you.'

I run to the smallest shade and uppercut it in the chin.

'Won't kill it, but at least I can escape'

Escaping the barrier, I keep searching for a cave.

'There!', I spot a small opening in the side of a mountain and immediately run into it.

'-*Only one will be able to enter at a time, grab the bone to your side to use as a weapon.'

I reach over to grab the bone and thrust towards the opening straight after, impaling a shade as it slumps over.

'I think I might just stand a chance now, even though this is just a portion of the shades.'

One after another, I stab the shades.

'I thought they might have been smart after surrounding me, but they don't seem to be stopping from running into the cave.'

'-*They aren't used to being seen, so this type of strategy rarely works on them. While able to learn, it's not fast enough to formulate a strategy in this short of a time. They also don't have enough mental strength to resist their instinct to kill humans, so laying back to rethink how to approach you isn't an option for them, along with all other chimeras.'

'Just makes it easier for me then. Put a chimera into a situation it doesn't understand, and winning becomes far less difficult. Did this type of strategy not work for the King?'

'-*The King was a hybrid of a slime and a human, meaning the human part can rationalize enough to form proper working strategies.'

'Enough to make a strategy but not enough to stop himself from wiping out all humanity, huh?'

'-*It's not that simple... chimeras with a human aspect are basically just humans with irrationally high urges to kill. They aren't stupid, just crazy.'

'If the King was basically just a human, how couldn't the top rankers kill him?'

'-*He had an immensely high growth rate, along with the skills of a slime. His growth rate wasn't nearly as high as yours, but it was still high.'

'Alright, that's all of them. I think I'll set up camp here.'

'-*There are nearly always one hundred chimeras per gate, so you won't be done for a while. I'd recommend setting up a fire just outside and cooking the shades for food, since they're the only animals in here besides you.'

'I think I'll just tough it out and bring my own food next time thanks. They look too human for me. Doubt they'd taste good either.'

'-*Check your stats and tell me how many extra points how have along with your level, I want to see if I'm right.'

'Gabriel.'

'Level is thirty-two hundredths, and my points are ten times that.'

'-*Jesus Christ. Well, I was right, but that's still crazy. It gets harder to level up every 2 levels, so you'll spend the perfect amount of time in each dungeon.'

'Why's it so perfect...'

'-*... I'll tell you when you're ready. There are few things I need to keep from you, and that's the most important one, for now at least. I promise you'll learn everything, even more than I currently know.'

'Imma just sleep then, I've been awake quite a while and need energy to fight later. I'll lay out small bones, so it'll wake me up if any of them walk in while I'm sleeping.'

'-*Good idea. I'm starting to wonder how you died last time. You obviously didn't go into any gates that were too hard, since this one isn't even allowed if you try and do this legally, and breaking into or finding high level gates before the rankers league did is impossible to do unnoticed, even for you, and there weren't any records of that in your history.'

'I think I know how, and that's why I'm doing this... Goodnight. Will you be able to do anything if I'm asleep?'

'-*I'm inside your brain right now, so if you turn it off, I turn off too.'

'Ok, goodnight.'

*

*

*

*Crack*

'!!!'

'-*Awake? What's happening...'

'A shade at the entrance of the cave stepped on a bone. There's a shit ton of them.'

I enter a narrow passage of the cave and start making noise, getting the shades to hurry over to me.

'Well, at least I slept.'

The shades started piling up at the entrance, basically begging to be stabbed.

'Well, this is gunna take a while.'

'-*You have high enough stamina, so you should be fine. Just keep doing what you're doing, and you'll finish in no time.'
