Chapter 37: Pettiness brings downfall
My plan has been going quite well, Gu Yue and Xiong don't have a definitive winner, as the rank 1 amount is quite close now and no one holds a firm advantage after the first clash. This is what I want, as no differences have been settled and the battle is forced to go on.
I want to do the same for the rank 2 battles. In blood battle competitions the clan elder fights don't matter as much. The reason is simple, clan elder's are close to dying. They are mostly old and only hold weight in name. Gu Yue has 12 elders, while Xiong has 9(woops!). In truth, the rank 3 amounts are actually 11 to 9, as Gu Yue Mo Chen's rank has already fallen.
I can clearly see the panic in his eyes. This blood battle competition is likely to come to an elder battle and stop there, so he is at risk of being exposed and stripped of his title. Elders can somewhat avoid the participation, but the clan leader's must fight to the death, unless a complete advantage is held by one of the two leaders.
My plan is flawless, as I am personally executing it, but the Fang Zheng situation is throwing me off. I know this MF, I know how he acts, how he eats, how he sleeps, everything! He was my political rival along with Gu Yue Qing Shu, so I made sure to gather as much information on them as possible to completely crush them! There is no way my deductions have gone wrong! Luck is also a factor, but I have rank 4 luck specifically designed to make my plans go more smoothly! How can Fang Zheng's small general luck compare to my sagely luck?!
General luck is yellow luck, which is the Jack-of-all-trades luck. It isn't good at anything, but it has use in every aspect of cultivation. This isn't bad, but you need a lot of it. This is why I didn't choose Dog shit luck Gu, as it is part of General luck and I would rather choose Sagely luck.
So luck isn't even a factor to consider here. What went wrong though? Why did this scheme fail? Is Fang Zheng not as immature as I thought? No! Someone is controlling his mind, but who? The clan leader! The Jackass most likely has used some small wisdom path or information path methods to tame Fang Zheng. I'll have to be more careful of him from now on!
Still, just 1 Fang Zheng isn't that important! He can go die to lord sky crane for all I care! For now, I need to concentrate on the battle and I have a pretty good idea of who to send! "Gu Yue Chi Shan, step forward!"
The Mo faction leader smiled when I said that and quickly furrowed his brows and whispered over to his enemy, the Chi faction leader "How unfortunate. It seems our battle lord has chosen our faction!"
He was smirking, but I could tell the huge sigh he let out internationally. I am a potential elder seed, as my cultivation is above(they think so) Fang Zheng and cultivation speed is that of a B rank, rather than C, so I am likely to become an elder.
The Mo faction has severely weakened and doesn't even have a rank 3 elder to support it, so I can easily tell how happy the guy must be. He can send out his faction members to their deaths without much worry now, as the theoretical balance has been maintained.
He might be only rank 2, but his authority is still that of a rank 3, for now at least. I don't want him getting anxious over loosing the manpower he desperately needs and annoying me.
The battle lord of Xiong clan is a girl who died twice in the original story. Her name is Xiong Jiao Man and boy is she good looking. I haven't seen Shang Xin Ci or female Bai Ning Bing, but she looks beautiful.
Still I would prefer is she died, of course. Beauty can't bring me strength and I don't want to have a harem or drag any extra weight along with me.
Jiao Man looked at Chi Shan going forwards and sent out Xiong Li with a smile. The two eternal rivals met each other and smiled in bitterness.
Xiong Li sighed and said "I guess this is going to be our last battle." Chi Shan sighed along with him and said "So it would seem."
They entered their respective stances and the battle began with Chi Shan rushing forward. Some kind of weird green membrane covered his body as horn grew out of his head and he kept charging.
Xiong Li smirked and put his feet down and got ready to catch the bull by the horns. His hands looked as rough as a bears and fur began growing all over his chest, arms and face. The claw-like fingers wrapped around Chi Shan's horns and he tried to stop the charging bull, but his smirk suddenly changed to a frown, as he couldn't stop the bull.
Chi Shan had fully cultivated his strength with 4 rank 1 strength path Gu worms from my Strength cultivation hall and used the rank 2 Gu worms bull rush and hell horn, which boosted his power greatly. Xiong Li only had a rank 2 brown bear strength Gu and rank 2 brown bear hide Gu, which was not nearly enough to stop Chi Shan's charge.
The battle was decided there and then. The hell horns couldn't be stopped and impaled Xiong Li. With a small twist of his head, Chi Shan tore Xiong Li apart and the rivalry ended. Chi Shan won and claimed victory as he returned.
I patted his shoulder as he passed by me and said "Good job. You may stay and fight or you can go back to rest."
He nodded his head and went back to fight, as he hasn't used even half of his primeval essence amount. I placed a rank 2 failure Gu in his body and transferred a lot of death luck to him. I can freely convert my luck into any other luck and transfer it through simple 'type' luck Gu and Bestow Luck Gu. He is doomed to die within the next two fights.
I waited for Xiong Jiao Man to make her move, but "I will go myself! If we are bringing out the big guns, then I will personally go fight!"
What? No! No, no, no! What is going on? Why is she going so early? She might be impatient and extremely feisty, but she wouldn't charge in like this. What are tye Xiong clan elders thinking?
Xiong Jiao Man cultivates bear transformation path, which isn't that powerful, but it is more than enough to take out Chi Shan and that's how it went.
Xiong Jiao Man transformed into a bear and instantly overwhelmed Chi Shan. All he could do was be slapped to death, while I received a direct command from my clan leader to go there and begin the official battle lord battle.
Battle lords are usually the last people in rank 2 to fight, as the victory or defeat of a battle lord can severely effect morale. Traditionally that is how it should go, but the clan heads want us to fight so soon tor some reason, which completely baffles me.
Xiong Jiao Man stands no chance against me, but it is still an unfair battle. I barely am rank 2 initial stage with 100% primeval essence, but people think I have 55% Crimson Red primeval essence because of my aptitude and the 4 flavours liquor worm.
Sure, the liquor worm is useful, but it doesn't boost a person's essencese recovery, that is its downside. The only reason I haven't been found out is the high essence recovery of the 10 extreme physiques and my rank 3 Heavenly Essence Treasure Lotus. I really don't want to fight this girl. I'll have to end the battle fast.
I stepped forwards and extended my hand in greeting "I have heard of Miss Jiao's accomplishments long ago and I have to admit I am not your match, miss Jiao. I am only rank 2 upper stage with barely any talent, while miss is at the pinnacle of rank 2 with an unparalleled 75% B grade talent! I am not dumb and can easily notice miniscule mountain, so I propose we settle our battle in a more direct and fair way. Does miss Jiao agree?"
She scoffed at my hand and slapped it away. "I won't bully you and will agree if the challenge seems fair."
I do love tricking dumb people through information gaps. I can most definitely resist her if she comes at me directly with her bear form using my physical strength, but that will injure my muscles and I won't have the 2 hours necessary to heal myself, so I need to resort to tricks.
"I propose a special fight of attack and defense. Both of us have 1 attack opportunity and 1 defense opportunity. Whoever defends the best and takes the least amount of damage will be the ultimate winner. Do you agree to these terms, miss Jiao?"
Xiong Jiao Man thought for a small bit and nodded her head "Seems fair for both of us, but I should be allowed to attack first, as this was your idea."
W small bit of sweat formed near my forehead and I said "Miss Jiao makes sense. I will agree to her term." The sweat is, of course, fake. Since when Have I been afraid of anyone? My attack power and defense are both capable of defeating rank 3 Gu masters. Which rank 2 can stand in my way?! She has fallen directly in my trap and cannot even escape!
I have read you like a book, Jiao Man and now it is time to burn that took. I got into a stance and readied myself "Miss Jiao can start her attack whenever she feels like doing so."
The Xiong young lady scoffed once again and began preparing her attack. I got ready to defend and watched her. Her body transformed by into a bear's completely and her front paws gave off a metallic glint and the muscles bulged yo the limit. Without a doubt, this will be an attack at the peak of rank 2 and I have to take it head on!
Xiong Jiao Man stomped on the ground with her giant front paws and growled with a sadistic sound. I gulped from "fear" and got ready. Her giant bear body rushed towards me with all of its might. When the distance shrunk to barely 5 steps, she jumped up and crashed towards me, intending to use the extra power to completely destroy my defense and injure me mortally.
I quickly activated Golden clover shield and he mighty paw landed on my shield. A mighty impact sound was made from the collision and my golden clover shield shattered! I spat out a mouthful of blood and Flew back, smashing into a tree.
My body looked severally injured and My face become so pale I started looking like a dermatologist. I quickly folded as I fell down.
"Little Nem, Nooooo!" My mother quickly ran over to me and began healing my body. Fuck, now I have to actually injure myself. Mum, can you be a little less caring sometimes?
"Sigh! Guess I wasn't her match after all." My reply instantly killed all morale Gu Yue had. This is also a huge boon of reputation. You can easily effect the morale of others. With such a huge fall in morale, the number advantage of Gu Yue will not even matter! Xiong clan will easily mop the floor with us.
This outcome isn't ideal, but it is the best I could think up. I will have to exchange all the failure Gu into Success Gu now and help decrease the death luck of my clan, but at least I can research luck path a little more.
You thought I was going to trick her and kill her? Nah. I am here to cause mutual destruction. Raising Gu Yue clan's, the numerically and qualitatively superior one's, morale higher than Xiong clan's will be the same as giving the complete dominance to Gu Yue. Xiong clan's elders aren't mentally crippled, they can easily see how defeat will be eminent and directly give up. The clan heads will fight and that will be that, game over, my plans fail.
I will gladly give up my pettiness and eat a loss so my plans can be salvaged. This is my purpose in this competition to begin with. I am not here to win, I am here to destroy! I won't let my ego or anything else get in the way of success! Pettiness and pride are the downfall of humanity! I am no Fang Yuan, but I am also no idiot!
