Chapter 9: Chapter Ten - Not the whole truth

ADIAN'S POV

The ringing of my phone distracted me as Hailey was exiting the car.

"Hello" I answered mother, angrily.

"She said yes!" mother screamed into the phone.

"F**k, no!" I said angrily, not hearing Hailey saying goodbye.

"I hate her already" I muttered.

I looked around, but Hailey was already walking away, with just her handbag on her shoulder.

On the car seat remained the bag with the red velvet cake. Did she leave it on purpose or did she forget it?

Maybe it's better this way, after all I'm no longer available, since I'm now betroth to a gold digging w***e.

"Adian? Adian?" my mother's voice echoed on the silent vehicle.

"What?" I bellowed.

"Well you need to come over so we can make the necessary arrangements" she babbles on.

Without answering her, I hung up, shutting my phone off completely, starting to drive out of the supermarket's compound, looking back one last time to get a glimpse of the refreshing, bubbly, red velvet girl. She's no where in sight.

Full speed ahead, I sped into the streets without a care of any consequence, because my life was already f***ed up.

The God's that didn't hear my earlier prayer, seems to be on my side now, because I screeched into the driveway of the underground carpark of Sullaknights, to deliver the documents uncle Jerry sent me to retrieve without a ticket.

The security at the booth appeared annoyed but I don't care. Picking up the file, ready to exit the vehicle, I stared at the cake in the bag and without a second thought, I took it out, locked up, saluting the security as I strode towards the elevator with a grin.

Without knocking, I opened uncle Jerry's office door, only to be curse by the sight of my father in his office.

Looking between the both of them, I contemplated walking back out.

"Sit your f***ring ass down" my father said, indicating the chair beside him. Ignoring him, I walk up to uncle Jerry slapping the documents on his desk, with an angry glare.

"Why the hell didn't you call me?" I asked.

"We need to talk" uncle Jerry says seriously.

I walked across his office, turning a sofa around to face them, before walking into uncle Jerry's small kitchen searching for a fork. Finding one, I took a water out of the small fridge going back out, opened the cake container, sat down and started devouring the red velvet cake, my mind now remembering the grey eyes twenty one year old beauty.

Looking up from the cake I saw my father looking at me, astonish while uncle Jerry sported a huge grin.

"It's mines," I said, taking another bite. "What's wrong now?" I asked uncle Jerry, hating any form of communication with my father.

"Your mother" my father started, before I interrupted him.

"I was speaking to uncle Jerry" I said rudely

"Adian!" uncle Jerry's voice echoed through the office walls as he shouted at me.

My father shakes his head and raised a hand stopping uncle Jerry from blowing me out.

As uncle Jerry fought to get his emotions under control, I stared at the both of them, wondering how uncle Jerry could support the wrongs that my father, did to my mother, his sister.

Shaking my head is disbelief, I started rating the cake again and silently thanking Hailey, wherever she is for this soothing taste.

"Your father needs to share something extremely important with you and I don't want any f***ing attitude from you!' uncle Jerry says sternly, quickly adding "you're not sharing?" staring at the cake.

"Uh uh. It's all mines" I said with a smile that didn't reach my eyes.

"So what's this f***ring important thing you need to tell me" I ask angrily.

"Your mother just called" he started as I slowly stopped eating, turning to look at them.

"You mean my impending death sentence?" I ask blankly.

With a sad look, my father stares at me, "It's not like that." my father insists with the same sad look.

"Well yours was right? I mean you and my mother?" I said mockingly.

Slamming his hands on the desk, "shut the f**k up and listen" uncle Jerry shouts, standing up.

My father turns glaring at uncle Jerry, instantly silencing him.

Slowly sitting back down, "he needs to know whose really the bad guy" uncle Jerry mutters loud enough for me to hear. Jerking my head to question him,

"Whose the bad guy?" I asked.

"That's not what we're here to discuss" my father says fighting to keep his emotions in check.

Looking between the both of them, I leaned back, putting down the cake opening a bottle water, gulping half down, folding my arms, waiting.

My father looks to uncle Jerry, who give him a nod, encouraging him to continue.

Staring intently at me, different emotions crosses his face. For a moment, I see love, love I remember as a child. Leaning forward, seeing the love my father never withheld from me even when I pushed him away.

Covering my face with my palms, resting my elbows on my knees. What the hell.

"Your marriage has been confirmed" he started.

"Why? Why are you forcing this?" I ask quietly, feeling drained.

"Because Sullaknights belongs to both you and Ryan Sullivan's daughter" uncle Jerry explains calmly.

Looking at him, I wait for one of them to continue, because I can't recall hearing about Sullivan.

My father came and sat in the couch opposite me, while uncle Jerry leaned back in his seat observing us.

"Ryan and I started this business together, we both own fifty percent of the company. Upon his death, his fifty percent went into a trust for his daughter and I continued to run the business as he and I designed it," my father explains softly.

Overcome by emotions I've never seem, my father stood up, "excuse me" he said, walking out.
