Chapter 33: Come
He Zifeng finally caught his breath. He casually took her hand in his, his other hand grabbing her suitcase, and started walking away from the fountain.
"Eh...He Zifeng...there are people here...well, they don't know me, but they know you..." Chen Kaori was tagging along with him, his palm wrapped around her smaller hand.
"If you don't want people to see, why did you come?" He Zifeng continued to brisk-walk with her in tow.
Chen Kaori's expression turned gloomy and her hand started to try to loosen his grip.
He Zifeng felt it and tightened his hold on her hand. "Don't let go if you don't wanna get lost."
After ten minutes, He Zifeng took her into a small building with a red awning at the entrance.
Chen Kaori felt a bit guilty as he carried her suitcase upstairs. She did not know that the building did not have elevators.
After some flight of stairs, he finally let go of her hand as he reached in his pocket. He took out his keys and opened the door in front of them.
He opened his apartment door, brought her suitcase in and placed it near the wardrobe.
Chen Kaori was in awe as she saw the apartment.
It was a studio-type with white walls. The entrance opens to the kitchen on the left, the living area on the right. The bed was near the window, with the wardrobe area serving as one of the bathroom walls. There was no dining table, but there were two bar chairs facing the kitchen counter.
The furniture pieces were minimalistic, but give the feeling of home as they were accented by the earth-colored pillows and sheets.
Chen Kaori looked back at him, but was surprised that he was putting on an apron. "Eh...what are you..?"
"It's too expensive to eat out. Just bear with my cooking for now," he casually said as he started washing vegetables he pulled out from the fridge.
Chen Kaori giggled, but covered her grin with her hand, then she sat on a bar stool and watched him prepare food. She had pictured him to be the forever prince who only orders people around. Her mind was even prepared to see a butler serving him. However, she was pleasantly surprised that he is not like that at all.
She made a surprise visit, but his apartment was kept tidy, his fridge had ingredients for meals, and he himself was sort of serving her.
He placed a pan on the surface of the induction cooker and turned it on. He drizzled some olive oil into the pan when it was hot enough, then seared a steak he seasoned prior. He seared another one then transferred both into a skillet which he placed into a preheated oven.
He added butter to the oiled pan he used to sear the steaks then began sautéing some chopped vegetables.
He turned off the heat and plated the vegetables, then set them aside.
He Zifeng glanced at her, then sighed before taking a wine bottle from the shelf.
Chen Kaori smiled at him sweetly as he poured wine into two glasses.
"Thank you, Sir." Chen Kaori jokingly said as he served her wine.
As she sipped, he recalled how she got drunk before.
"Hey, just a sip!" he scolded her.
She giggled as she put down her glass. "I know...I know...better to save it until the steak is ready.
He gave her a stern look.
The dinner was uneventful besides Chen Kaori's praising of his cooking skills.
"Eh...let me wash the dishes!" She tried to get the plates from him when they were done eating.
"No...I got this. Go and wash up before bed."
"Oh...okay." Chen Kaori blushed as she realized they will be sleeping together as there was no separate bedroom.
She hurried to open her suitcase to get her towel, change of clothes and toiletries.
